Razer Swap: Black To Silver

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

An I the only guy in the world that has actually exchanged his cool black Razr for a silver one? I have had the paint rub off of mine in two places, and have a couple of friends that have had paint chipping problems. I took my black one to my friendly neighborhood Cingular corporate store, and they actually exchanged the black one I bought from NBO instead of making me mail it back in and be without a phone. Kudos!!!

The silver one feels more solid and heavy than the black one did...I think. And I am not worried about it looking rough so soon. Plus, everybody and their mother has a black one now, and it it almost a novelty having an "old" silver one.

how about swap razr to a real phone

If everybody and their mother has a black one now, must be everybody, their mother, father, great grand daddy, great grand mammy and so on has a silver one.

What I have noticed between silver and black is that the silver version holds up better under heavy use. I have both and my silver version is older but it still looks new. My black has a little bit of paint that rubbed off up at the hinge but other than that, they both look pretty new. I take good care of my stuff. But it is true, everyone has they V3 now since the price came down so much. I very rarely use mine anymore. I have a better toy, my Nokia N90.

How about a swap to a real intelligent reply, or has this been your best effort in your 22-post career?

oboy, that was a good one. I actually laughed out loud when I read that.

I totally agree that the Razr has been way over-played, and has become as common as the V551 was...or even moreso since it has become so affordable. But, aside from still being a cool phone, it is also a really good phone. Techno-loaded, no...but functionally one of the best phones on the market today IMO. Great RF, lightweight, good construction, etc.

Actually, I would buy another phone if Motorola would release another flip phone that would beat the Razr on sheer funtionality alone. I almost got a V635 until I realized that the only real improvement was the memory...which I could care less about.

Is Moto/Cingular going to release a real cool flip soon?

Ya hu..

I want a silver one, but I just got exchanged my first black one to another black one, the CSR used the excuse "half of it would be silver and half would be black if You changed your mind and got a silver one"
-- Do they send you a refurbished phone when u do the cingular exchange, or a brand new one from the cingular store? I don't want a refurbished one again :/, that's why my first one didn't work!

The Razr sales are because Motorola has been notorius in getting back market share when everyone wrote them off as dead in the handset arena. History repeats itself.
They made a smash with the "Brick Phone" aka Mot 8000 back in the 80's. No one complained about paying $2000-$3000 for this puppy. Then NEC and Oki came out with smaller handhelds and Mot was out sold. Then they came back with the PT-500 the first flip phone and what a smash this was. When first launched it was about $800. People got tired and the off shoots like the Vader and Micro Tac series. Then Mot died for a while and they followed back up with the V60 and everyone had to have one. $250 when launched and eventually at the end of its life cycle it became free. The 720 720i etc.... was a lousy phone and mot took some time before coming out with the V300 V400 V500 series. But market share was still not picking back up. Then they launched the V3 Razr and the rest has been history. Black Silver Magenta, and Bubble Gum along with Cosmic Blue and the phone has become the number one seller. The first RAZRs with Cingular were $499 and now you can get them for free if you know how to get those Lets Talk Wirefly and Inphonic rebates back(not likely). The RAZR no matter what color has been a huge winner for Motorola and for Cingular.
No phone has sold so well domestically or international as the RAZR. While some think its a novelty I think its an amazing piece of technological marvel. It took a while for Samsung to copy it with its Blade phone. No one else has launched anything as close to this handset design.

Thanks so much for the original, heartfelt, and thought-provoking reply.

The Razr is a very good PHONE. Your Treo is a personal replacement for a PDA, PC and telephone...and I am only interested in the telephone function. In that function, the Motorola V3 Razr performs admirably...better, in fact than your beloved Treo. You bought your device for your reasons, I bought my phone for mine.
