External display on RAZR

Hi

I have this really annoying problem with the caller ID on the external display:

when a person who has a picture ID in my phonebook calls, I can see only the picture on the external display, but not the name, or the "number type" icon.

I've played around a lot with it: set different pictures , edited it with "motorola phone tools" to fit the screen, nothing helped, even the master reset. the picture size is 176x220 so its a standart resolution for razr screen.

It drivez me nutz coz it wasnt that way at the first place.

plz guys help.

I'v borrowed that picture from the forum, coz my digicam went dead .
Hope its not right protected

you got me, well....

the first time I posted, I didnt notice the image size was to to big to be uploaded

BTW, do you know how to alter the settings regarding the pic and name on ext. display

Posted by: cyberpac9

that's exactly how mine works...which razr do you have? do you have the v3c or v3?

Posted by: qasax

the V3,
The thing is that I saw that ppl here asked how to get rid of the "caller's name" above the pic, and I wondred how come this changed on my phone, initially it wasnt that way.

Posted by: cyberpac9

when you say "initially" what did you do that changed it?

Well , since Im working and study towards B.Sc I dont have time to learn about flexing/modding ,seem editing ( what the *#*#$ is that?) or whatever , so didnt do any of that.
I just installed and then updated "motorola phone tools", hooked up via USB and tranferred some pics, ringtones and contacts. then all I was doing is tryin to connect my IPAQ to GPRS via razr,

I asked myself the question you've asked me, ( I work in tech support, so this is the first Q u ask a customer , lol), but nothing could've triggered it, that i can think of.
My apologies for my mangled english.

ok...well, as you can tell from my question, i too work in tech support ...the pic you're trying to use, is it one you taken with the phone, or one you've just uploaded? try taking a pic with the phone and assigning it to a contact to see if that works...all the pics i use for caller id are taken with the phone (not uploaded)...

and you're english is perfect!

Tried that, but still, only the picture of a contact pops up,

I've noticed that resolution of pictures taken by phone is 640x480 and it fits best on the external display (unlike the 176x220 res. pictures which fit for the internal display), so its a standard aspect ratio of a picture taken by digicam. So all I did is tranferred my existing pics from my PC using "motorola phone tools".I used "fit to screen " option there to reduce its size( which of course keeps the original aspect ratio)

I was wondering about another thing:
When a person calls, and there's multiple numbers under his name stored in my phonebook, shouldnt the "number type" icon(i.e. "work","mobile") be displayed on the external screen, next to the name.what I did I removed the picture ID and now I can see the name, but I dont know if that person is calling from work or from his cellphone. All I see is his name and a tine icon of a swinging handset.

that's strange...i'm a little lost as to tell you what to try next...

Posted by: qasax

do you think that it has something to do with a sync. software, coz nothing else makes sense.

i've done everything you've said (except contacts - they were migrated from another sim card) with my razr using mpt...i've uploaded pics and mp3's...i have not connected my razr to my ipaq other than bluetooth, and i can't see why connecting your razr to your ipaq would have any effect...maybe it does have something to do with the contact you've synced with the pc...have you tried manually entering a name/number, attaching a pic and see what happens?

I posting two screens, one from external display where you can see only the picture, and one from internal display.
Sorry for crappy quality (they were taken by an antique phone), but you can see that on the internal display everything is fine, if you turn on your imagination you can see the name above the pic, and a lil' "number type" icon on the left.

God damn it, I got an exam 2morrow, and look what am I doin...

"Great minds think alike"
I thought of that. since my contacts in outlook written in thee languages, I thought it might have something to do with "phone tools" and syncing process.
but now I do recall that I used "delete memory" function in "phone tools" once to delete all contacts, after I was playing with backup/restore function which messed up the phonebook entries turning name's characters into the question marks.
