Saku in Low Res Brought to you by Toaster

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Toaster

This theme was originally created by Nokia and released as part of Theme studio 3.0 - it was in HIGH RES for N90 and up model phones. Due to great demand here on Howard Forums - I have attempted to recompile this high res theme into a low res version (low res meaning 176x208) for basically every OTHER S60 phone besides the N90 Should work fine on N70, 668x, 6630, 7610, 6600, 6620, etc.

Many thx to Nokia team for originally creating it. And many thx to me Toaster for taking the time to recompile it (which took freakin' forever - at least the way I did it) and taking the time to share with all of you

Enjoy HoFo'ers!

Thanks for this.

Yes, thanks. But, if you want to play a little, would it be possible to change the color of the text used for the to-do/calendar/etc list on the standby screen from the light blue to white when not selected?

If I get some free time... To be honest, when I work on themes - I try to work on the ones I can use too... My N90 doesn't like the original resolution themes (low res themes) like these...

For the record, all the themes released with Theme studio 3.0 has text color issues - I think Nokia did that intentionally... On digitiles, you couldn't even see the date in the analog clock, its text color was the same as the clock background

I appreciate the praise. I guess I'm vain. As for B4E themes.... I don't have the source (uncompiled) data, so making it for the "tiny" screen users is up to him. Honestly, there are sooooo many low res themes out there.... you guys with your little screens can have ANY theme.... its us macho big screen guys who are at the disadvantage

Hmmm, it's pretty pimp - but on my 6682 the text is black (ie the Applications screenshot) instead of white. Makes everything unreadable on the dark blue background.

Does it show up white like the screenshot for anyone else?

Dark for me also.

Posted by: Toaster

Tell me what text is dark where, and I'll see what I can do
Be as specific as possible - the text color lineup in theme studio is ---- retarded at best. and its hard to figure out what colors are actually going to affect which text

The text for the Active Standby screen & the text under the icons in the menu screen.

Toaster -- I played with this a little today, and the colour area is "Main Area Items -> Unfocused Application Title Texts" (for instance) that shows up black on the 6682. It's weird, because I converted the theme by hand (direct editing of the TDF (xml) file for the 176x208 older device, and in the preview, the theme studio, everywhere -- it shows up as light blue text. When you put it on the phone, it's black.

BTW, the softkey colours don't work in your SIS, but they did in mine (who knows why); also my generated SIS was half the size of yours (only ~236k).

OK... here's what I've found out. Nokia in all their wisdom, makes different versions of theme studio, and pretty much abondons the previous versions

Theme studio v1.2 was for older handsets, upto and including 6630/6680's. (os8.0)
Theme studio v2.0 was for N70/N90 (and possibly N91) (os8.1)
Theme studio v3.0 is for Symbian 9.0+ phones (N80, E series, etc)

Without quoting anyone specifically, the basics are this:

Just because you do something in TS3.0 (for example), change a text color, add an icon, whatever... and you compile the .sis file, that doesn't mean the change will be active or seen if you put that .sis onto an older handset (or non specific to theme studio version handset)... Nokia's official stance is: USE THE THEME STUDIO COMPATIBLE WITH YOUR HANDSET.

Which would be fine, but many things are buggy in TS2.0 that work in TS3.0 (i've never used 1.0/1.2 so I cant comment)... which is BS! There are many reports of themes compiled in TS3.0 that look fine in the preview, but don't display correctly on N70's - this seems to be a common problem. Because for the N70 you should be using/creating in Theme studio 2.0.

Whoever said they recompiled the theme and it got smaller: Used an older version of Theme Studio? thats my guess. I'm currently using Theme Studio 3.0, because it seems to be more stable and has less bugs than 2.0

That was me -- I used 3.0 like you, I managed to install it on a p3-550 with 512mb ram and an old NVidia card. It runs, slowly.....slowly.....slowly... I have no clue, but I've compiled that theme 2 or 3 times (trying to figure out what was wrong) and get a ~236k SIS file each time for Saku. Who knows.

OK, I managed to find the older (1.2) version on Nokia's site and am downloading it, let's see what it can do...with any luck maybe I can open the 3.0 SAKU inside 1.2. Wishful thinking.

Posted by: Toaster

I don't think so.. but you never know. I'm unable to open 3.0 themes in 2.0 BUT YOU NEVER KNOW!

Is the 236k file actually usable? is it a real theme? If you used 3.0 same as me, maybe all the pictures and/or icons are not there???? confusing.... but that was Nokia intent with Theme studio - CONFUSION!

Anyway: Here's a new version of Saku... Saku 2

http://www.yourfilehost.com/media.p..._By_Toaster.RAR

although it should be a new thread...

EDIT: Heres the new thread... http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...119#post6818119

After re-reading this post, I wanted to add: Don't feel bad about theme studio running slow... its runs slow on my 2.6ghz machine with 2gb of ram and a RAID0. It runs slow for EVERYBODY. I'm surprised its even usable on that machine... (p3/550 + 512mb).

Also, avoid using the java engine that's included with Theme Studio. Use the latest one from Sun Microsystems Inc.

@Symbianblack

I will try and make a low res version, but I can't guarantee it will work with a non-N Series phone.

You can get 1.2 from the Nokia forum website -- on the 3.0 page is a link towards the lower left that says "Archived", which will take you to the 1.2 page. I haven't found 2.0 anywhere yet, it appears it's been....lost intentionally.

ps: 1.2 uses BMP only, not SVG. so down-converting one of the themes from 3.0 (ie Saku) will be a real pain. I started to look at it, hoping for an easy way; what I think has to be done:

- compile SIS in TS 3.0, install SIS to phone
- grab MBM file off of phone, open it in mbmwhizard.exe (bmconv.exe) and extract all the BMPs to individual files
- re-apply all the BMP files into a new theme in TS 1.2

The last step is the hard part, you gotta sit there and compare/contrast all the pieces between the two, since the BMP files won't have the same (or even close) name as the original SVGs. *sigh*

I'm not surprised... v1.2 was "THE" themestudio for a long time, then BOOM, 2.0 came out and just a few weeks later 3.0 came out. Many options/features didnt work in 2.0 that DO work in 3.0.

and @B4E: You're right, a good point I forgot to mention- I also use the latest java engine from sun micro, not the one included in the TS3.0 package - though its only like 2 revisions behind - I think.

I noticed in 3.0 they eliminated the option to input a landscape picture for some reason. Now it just streches the photo, making it look like crap. Not only do they need this option for the N90, but for the upcoming E61.

Yeah... I noticed that too, Nokia official stance on it is: TS2.0 is specifically for N90, and thats the one you should use...however they have no comment when you tell them that version of the software is crippled - and many features are greyed out, or do not work properly- but do work in 3.0.

In TS2.0, you can have a specific picture for the cover, thats only visible on the cover- but not in 3.0. There is supposed to be a way to add the cover only phone to a theme in 3.0, but I havn't figured it out yet. I WANT TO LEARN HOW TO DO THAT THOUGH.

Posted by: Toaster

There is a yet a third version of this saku low res theme... THIS WILL BE THE LAST ONE EDITED BY ME. If anyone else wants to tackle it - Be my guest.

http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...252#post6828252

Please move all comments to that thread. THANKS - TOASTER.

Toaster you made some cool themes. I just can't figure out how to load them on my 6682. Is there a good thread of how to do this? The search isn't working now.
