I think you said your device was PW protestec.That may be the problem, Im not sure. I am not PW protected so I never see the WM screen. Mine went straight from the TMO boot screen to my today screen. Remember to make sure it is a true 24bit .bmp file named splash.bmp.

Its really wierd how things work great for people on their first try with no issues, yet for others with the same device there is just issues after issue. I wonder if this is human error or if its just small unnoticable differences from device to device causing these issues. With my luck, since I had NO issues with aWizard and the splash flash, the 2.17 flash is going to brick my MDA> HAHA! knocking on wood right now. lol

Now i dont know if that meant holding the button down and the stylus into the hole will soft resetting or if just holding the two for a few gets to the boot loader. Just thought would be a nice little tip to pass on to you ROM flashers out there. He said this will give you access to the device without having activesync going.

That leaves out a lot of the CAB's that were part of the original T-Mobile extended ROM. But I don't know how important the missing one's might be, and if they help or hurt the overall experience. I would actually like to see a discussion thread picking apart each of the cab's, so we can really understand what's in them so we can each decide what combo of features we want in or out. I've been really happy, overall, with the choices that xelencin made, and his bundling all of it into an installer with CID unlock and tweaks made it far more approachable. But I like to tweak and customize...and now that I'm a bit more comfortable with all of this, I'm wondering about an alternative approach:

Since all of these customizations in the extended ROM are going in as cab's that get executed (installed) after the basic 2.17 ROM is installed, shouldn't we be able to:

1) get the T-Mobile extended ROM cab's all together
2) get all the potential custom cab's that interest us together
3) installed the basic non-extended 2.17 (or 2.18?) ROM
4) copy over and install those cab's that interest us, one-by-one

???

I suspect the only problem would be that a hard reset would NOT include these CAB's, and they'd have to be manually copied over and installed again (or left in a dir on the miniSD for manual reinstallation in the event of hard reset).

I'm looking at xelencin's list of customization's and trying to compare it to the list of cab's that comes in T-Mobile extended ROM, and it's not all that obvious to me what's in/out, although some of it is pretty easy to pick out.

Also not sure what some of the T-Mobile customizations are, such as:
MT-MMS-WI19-051213.cab (clearly something to do with MMS!)
Short-MMS1-CV-VOICE-TMO-US-10Nov05.cab (something with Cyberon/Voice and MMS? Maybe getting Cyberon to invoke MMS by voice command?)
Signed_2005_11_24_TOHTC_wispa_PPC_Release_v1_0_1_1 .cab (huh?)
...and about 10 others whose function I have to guess.

Without knowing what they are, I don't know if I'm missing them!

It came with the Midlet manager and total commander. I picked up tweaks 2k2 and that was a great program. Now I'm gonna pick up spb backup and some other stuff..woooohooo!

Get contact breeze and you get anotehr icon that wehen tapped gives you all of your contacts with some tap and hold options. This allows for the romoval of tasks, calendar and messages sections from the today screen. That should help eliminate your scroll bar.

everything under my SBP pocket plus is Pocketbreeze. If you want I can take some screes with the other tabs showing. Since the main screen shows appointments and tasks and special occasions, I only use that and the contacbreeze tab. I prefer the OEM messages displaybecause I dont have to click anything to get to it. I dont need the previews of the messages because I get the with the popup that comes up when i get the message/email. Since I now use tray launch I can almost get rid of SBP pocket plus(even though I payed for it) because I only use it for my games now. Any important, frequently used apps is on my tray launch bar, and everything else is on my start menu. Tray launch is awesome because it is used with shortcuts and you can have any icon you want with each shortcut. I am in the process of making a comprehensive ICON file with every icon that i can find in WinXP as well as the games and other APPS I have on my PC. Using Microangelo I can create a icon library file that is smaller that the dll's that normally hold them.

Ill add a couple more picks in just a minute.

Jonazen, just like my Grandmother your right! The one and foremost reason I bought this MDA was business use. Today, again I had to cold boot once again. I3onk and I have been in discussions. I told him I needeed a certain feature, well he referred me Pocket Breeze, which I believe u also use, which I am now using and will keep for my contacts, emails, tasks, yadayada.. So I went to my full backup, before Spb PP, and just before complete restore of backup, MSVC popped up a quick msg. On restore I could not get MSVC to work anymore. Made no sense, good full backup with MSVC, so I restored backup again, but the 3rd time was a charm. I could not figure out why, except after 2.17 upgrade, I had done a full backup, before Spb PP, but overwrote older backup file, which may have contributed to the pain of freezing at windows login, who knows. So I cold booted again, and reloaded everything man! Your right it takes too much time, and I am very efficient in the recovery. But due to a little frustration, I started by re loading MSVC cab and forgot WM5 defaults to deleting cab files, so lost the cab file after install, then like dummy, rather then load Tweak2k2 1st and enable “Do not delete .cab files”, I loaded Wi-Fi comp next, but my date and time were off, wo wi-fi comp prompt me to fix that first, then try again, well WM5 had already deleted the wi-fi comp .cab file. I was too lazy to get up from bed at 7AM, so used my Pocket LAN to download the deleted cab files I keep on my LAN, by time I got my files back, after entering my 128bit encrypted router key to get on LAN (registration, keys, etc on SD) I spent a good period of time on this, cause I needed another good full backup (not overriding old one). I’m a going to stop messing with this device cause I am defeating the purpose of owning one, which is for business, not for cold booting. Soft boots are a must once in a while. I had to go out with family, and I think my wife blew a gasket with my insanity of restoring while preparing to leave. But sooner or later I’m going to screw something up on MDA with another cold boot.

In the end, I loaded Pocket Breeze first, before Spb Pocket Plus, and still there it was, the gray scrawl bar. All that to find out it was WM5 that puts it there on the Today screen.

I didn't like the Today scroll bar, and I'm willing to keep a scroll bar in PocketBreeze as long as I can eliminate the Today screen scroll bar -- two different things, one is within the PocketBreeze plugin only, and the other affects ALL of your Today items. I did a lot of experimenting, and rearranged the items in my Today screen, and also reduced the number of pixels allotted to PocketBreeze (PBreeze settings, General Settings, PocketBreezeHeight in Pixels). I cut down the vertical pixels alloted to PocketBreeze to 120 I think (maybe 100?), and the Today screen scroll bar disappeared. Everything fits nicely now.

Still need to experiment...sometime! Don't know that's going to happen!

I also found that the loading order on startup seems to affect the behavior of some of these plugins. Just rearranging things (easy to do this with MemMaid), I found that one startup sequence did something so that PocketBreeze wouldn't even load up. Also - silly as it sounds, my available memory seems to be different depending on the order these programs load in. Makes no sense to me - and I'm a software guy! Sheesh...

Also - silly as it sounds, my available memory seems to be different depending on the order these programs load in. Makes no sense to me - and I'm a software guy! Sheesh...

If it is installed on my device or on the minisd doesnt make a difference. As long as it isnt set as the default browser I can open links from my emails. Once I set it to default is when I get the error. Glad I figured that out. I will keep it installed on my minisd but not set as default. I will aslo keep it set to my PIE button for easy access.

As far as the email dismiss thing, I dont have that problem. I actually never hit dismiss. I usually hit view and then read the email. If I dont hit view i hit nothing and it just goes away with no more notification. Been that same like that for OEM TMO ROM and for 2.17.

Anyway got my email working, and PB and SpB Pocket Plus. I realized that the gray bar is a WM5 think. We don't have enouph Today deskspace for too many things so it's obvious WM5 is going to start scrawling. Anyway got rid of it. But it comes back depending on what I am doing. For example, I removed the date and time from Today settings, this immediately removed the gray scrawl bar. I changed the PB pixels to 100 and it works nicely on screen with both. Im going to use PB for calander, tasks, etc. If u have 1 pop account with outlook it still does not engage gray scrawl bar, but because I use several pop accounts, when email comes in, the scrawl bar comes back, but as soon as I read the email and remove from inbox to delete box, scrawl again goes away. I can live with that.

But I got to tell you, there is defenetly either a problem with my system, or the 2.17 upgrade. I would rather think the upgrade, cause I cannot delete any programs. I get msg that it could not remove it completely, then I am totally screwed, cause If I want to re install, it will not in same location. And I tried removing everything on one program my self, even went to registry and delted software folder, cause memmaid did not remove it, still can't reload program. So I went and got the file from the install version backup I keep dumped it in same folder in PPC and program worked.

But I cannot remove programs from 2.17 period! Also my little battery and little speaker has dissapeared??

I have some utility that I know I have used before on my iPaq where it allows me to hack the registry, and put a date and time on either top or bottom bars, and move it left to right till I get it where I want, but cannot find it??

If you need to remove a program let me know ur experience.

1. Install PB before SBP. This will put PB on the bottom giving you a little more room for your appointments and such to show.

2. Maybe create a couple of more tabs for your SBP so you can get one row of icons per tab. You can fit 5 large icons and 7 with 4 large and three small, that will give you a nice thin line for the SBP section. 4. I would get rid of the SBP backup section on the today screen. You kow when you do your backups. Not going to be hard to remember. You can put a shortcut to it in your start menu. That will free up even more room on your screen.

Hope these suggestions help you out man. Any more questions please ask away. I need to find out if the Vista lite skins will work on WM5 devices. I really like the looks of them .

I tried SpB Diary, but didn't like it initially because of the internal scroll bar. Plus, I use hotmail and .mil exchange. Hotmail requires me to do the send/receive and .mil exchange doesn't seem to be compatible (probably cuz i'm retarded, haha).

Probably test Pocket Breeze next. But with work, can't find time to sit down and download.

I do want to be a "happy camper" too...so I figure ask dumb questions so I don't break it.

Firts off cause I think it's the most important. I think Im going to switch back to the OEM Radio ROM. I have had issues latley, where my calls just drops. I have NEVER had this issue before. SBP diary, or pocket breeze will both have the scroll bars. Of course this depends on how much info is being displayed.

The skins are just an asthetic thing. Make it look a little better. There are some changes and shortcuts.

I am testing wisbar now and it seams kind of OK. Havnt checked the taxing or the memory yet. Im going to check the wisbar desktop to see if the desktop view is something I may really want to switch too.

You can do way too many things withe these devices. I am not sure whether something like Wizbar would conflict with what I am doing. Cause I believe it's just another PB, or Spb Diary, just different style desktop. Hey memory can only take so much. Im already seeing 16MB RAM or less sometimes. I have to run SK RAM, or soft reset to get back total 19 or 20 I was getting. I guess skins change your desktop, and that's not what I need right now.

Wisbar doesnt change your desktop. It actually only changes the startmenu bar. That screen shot was deceiving. That screenshot was of a total package skin that includes wisbar and wisbar desktop.

Wisbar can be shut off and on when ever you want. Doesnt have to be uninstalled to get rid of it. click the settings button (the little down arrow) and there is a power button icon to shut it off. You can set it to run on startup or turn it on when you want. It does make startup about 30 seconds longer, but I think it may be worth it. I have been using it all day, and I kind of like it. I just need to find the right skin(theme) for the wisbar. I have seen a very nice looking black one out there, but I havnt been able to find it yet.

If you need help setting up your shortcuts for traylaunch let me know. I have a document that will help you set up your icons for rom shortcuts. I also have an icon library with an extensive selection of icons that can be used with your shortcuts.

You will want the icon viewer that I have uploaded here, to allow you to see what number the icons are, to know which one to link the shortcust to.

I put it in a shortcuts folder in my documents folder.

then you will open traylaunch and add new. the shortcut will be

my documents\shortcuts\runningapps.lnk

click the checkbox to run it and away you go.

I will attach the file that shows all the shortcuts for the system apps.

One more thing. To creat shortcuts to regularly installed apps, just go to your file explorer, find the .exe and copy it. Go to the shortcust folder you created and "paste shortcut". then add it to your tray launcher using the same method you did for the running apps. (ie...my documents\shortcuts\application.exe)

Skins are so cool. They change the way you use the PPC. But if u only have the Wizbar Advance, not the desk top Wizbar Advance Desktop, when u download a skin it only changes the top bar goodies. I used one with my theme, cause I had to find one that fiited my new look. But u can gor nuts with these stuff, change every once in a while, But gut to figure out how to change color in start/men fonts, cause that is my only issue right now

Once I get what I want, I am going to only put those themes and skins in my docs to keep them backed up, cause on skins the zip file creates a folder with more .png files then you really need in storage to get what u want (since Im not using Wizbar Advance Desktop). But I will keep the zip files on my PC desktop incase one day I want to totally change today screen, not sure though cause I like my Diary, and love Tray Launcher.

I need to find a way to change that menu font to white..
