Must be nice to have spent so little for your MDA. I know I spent $400 + tax. Mail in rebate got lost in the mail along with the sticker panel from the box, so Im out my $50. lol. I know MadDog spent even more than that for his. I couldnt have thought of a better way tospend my money. Ok maybe I could if I think about it. Maybe another MOBO and CPU for the PC. Dont need those though. Since I got this, I dont spend my free time gaming anymore, I spend it h4xing this damn thing LOL!!! WEEEEEEE!!!!
pu

haha i did the same exact thing, went with the mda instead of the mobo/cpu no more gaming but this thing keeps me occupied

Yeah, I run 3 CS servers. I got my MDA setup so I can run them from anywhere. Download maps, ftp them to the server. run console and admin commands. chat with people on the server. anything I can do on my PC for the servers, I can do from my MDA.

Posted by: robpet2

didn't know that the mda can control a server...( howyadodat ).... never know what job I get next...... currently in sales so I can't get but so much real business use out of my phone other than using the calculator, and calendar sofar and once in a while I note what sales orders I've written for the day...

Well NOW, for some reason, I think my installation may have made the decision for me. Even when I do a reset, my MDA is acting differently than it did a week ago. Some apps aren't consistently starting up correctly, and now when I use Voice Command to change profiles via pocketzenphone (PZP), the PZP icon display doesn't change properly and I can't really tell easily whether the profile has changed or not. A couple of other odd behaviors as well.

So...I'm thinking that something I've done may have scragged the current install. It would be GREAT if I could simply fall back to one of several prior backed up configs - perahps one without PZP installed, or without ContactBreeze or PocketBreeze. But no...I don't have any backups like that to roll back to.

So many it's time for me to follow your lead...if I have to do a hard reset and reinstall apps, I should do take incremental backups along the way this time.

Do you store all your various backup versions on a single miniSD, or on your PC? (sorry if I missed the details in your earlier posts). I've got a 1gb miniSD in my MDA now (2gb ordered a couple of days ago). Wondering if perhaps I should use the 1gb to hold several backups, and then swap in the 2gb for "everyday use" (music, data files, email attachments, browser cache, etc).

Suggestions?

You all know me now, I am paranoid! So yes, I keep basically NO more than three backups on my miniSD, and do custom backups of my contacts, my documents, and email 3 times a week without data. When possible I use PocketLAN and copy them over to pc. As you so humbly acknowledged this is a true and tested process. And I too take good advise from you guys, often. Road of hard knocks bro, as u know, but doesn't mean you got to step on crap to smell it coming. This is a solid process, but customized to anyones needs. My real true backup is one with all my hacks, my flash apps, and that's it. That's the one i can always go back to incase i am going to make a serious change. It takes me back before winsbar, before, Spb Plus, before Spb Diary, before tray launcher. The whole purpose of this for me is, I don't have to cold boot and go through the tedious process of the simple nonsense, just so that I can get going with new installs. Like WAD. I went bck to this restore, and it was clean and ready for WAD, then went back to my final restore with.... Wisbar, spb plus, spk diary, tray launcer, hacks, setups, like buttons, phone, owner, you know the works to get me back where I was. I had problem with loosing the battery incon, before Wisbar, and my time? When back to original backup/restore, and confirmed it was not my system, thus re loaded some apps, back on target.

that hurts my feelings bro.. Considering Jonazen went 1st, I second, and if recall good I3onk.... well he was very very cautious. But that's o.k. Once he moved forward he actually was braver than both of us who took the lazy way out with just using RUU to unlock, I3onk went the extra yard for the backu up roms, which he humbly shared with me, incase I need to restore originals.

I haven't impressed you yet, ha Stay tuned bro, 5 star champion thread here.. You seem to be moving on pretty well, maybe we will take some of your advise soon. So be nice to the rest of us You never know where the dvise may have originated from.

Thats o.k. we all feel comfortable with something someone said. I too hve been contacted here by several people who felt comfortable with me. Now they are talking on this board and dropped their shiness, matter of fact I am having lunch in Tampa with one mistery guest here, who drilled me with curious questions. And even I3onk and myself talk on IM once in a while.

Go for it!

Yeah --- it's been fun here, and I've learned a lot. Trying to figure out how to free up a bit more time to come back here again. Also I'm now VERY anxious to redo my MDA. I really should do a hard reset, backup, install key apps, back it up, and then start adding in the more obscure features. Just struggling to find the time, and it's making me a bit nuts right now!

As the governator once said...I'll be back!

Is anyone here pretty good on the set-up of the MDA?

I'm having a lot of problems and it's very frustrating....

Maybe someone could help me out via e-mail? Or is anyone in the Fort Lauderdale area?

Robert, You got me MadDog, and Jonazen who are all pretty adept at working with the MDA and all the tricks you need to get it going. If one of us can't answer your question, it's almost guarenteed that one of the other two can.

Im in Tampa, close but no cigar I guess. Look we all check in here daily, and try to help others, cause I know better than anyone the frustrations of a life time of work. I get several private emails in reference to help, but I would prefer it posted here, cause it does help others. Many just wonder into these forums without ever joining, they just read the remarks, and move on, but get help. So go for it bro in Ft. Lauderdale, where I use to live 28 years ago, also in Pampano Beach Fl.

I was a late bird in college, really late.. I used to ask questions all the time, and raise my hand, while other young pupps in the class, right out of highschool, never did. I use to wonder I must be the only lost soul , then discovered many students were so happy to get answeres to my stupid questions.

I go back to my old sayings, as I3onk and Jonazen know me by know... I'd rather feel stupid for 5 minutes, then live an entire lifetyme of ignorance. Ask away..

I am also willing to be a guinea pig. If there is something you want to knwo about or hwo well it works, let me know. I am willing to install and give anything a try once, sometimes twice. Ill give you my review and you can take it or leave it as you wish. I just like to help. I know I have gotten alot of help from this and other forums, and have been blown off in some other forums. I would rather be the one that helps then blowing someone off.

Your not alone bro. I went through the same process with MDA. And what I learned from cold boots, and installation order, got it running so smooth it flys with every application I launch, and tested for a while now. Nothing lasts for ever but for now my backups are solid restores. I just can't get this thing to crash , and my memory is even up to almost 20MB! Thats with all the crap we have done here together. And franckly I am not concerned to try something new, cause I can always fall back to what works anyway. So go for it Bro.

I started over again several times, and I think in the process really got good at what works and what does not on this device, and in what order they seem to work together.

Would subscribing to the $5/month tzones help me out here at all?

That I am not sure about. I have unlimited tmobile web. You might get an answer from someone else here but you may be better off calling tmo to ask what their policy is on that. Sorry man :s

Just like I3onk, if you post questions on this thread, your going to get my 2 cents! Take it or leave it! I feel just like I3onk, and I believe I can say this for Jonazen, I have been to boards where no body gives a crap about your issues or problems. To be on a board where so many people are interacting and bending over backwards to get you a file, an ftp site, a piece of hard researched information, is not easy to find!

When I first got on this board, i was sweetly surprised to find a home on a product I care for hone: . I spend lots of times on boards, and for the most part, NOBODY gives me the kind of information I get here. I am not a person of two words, as I3onk has sweetly put it, I sometimes write novels, you can choose to read them, and the knowledge they carry, or ignore them, I am still going to give you my two cents . Why? 1st cause many people type three word sentences on boards, that for me does absolutely nothing to help me. 2nd Cause I am a crazy kind of a guy who understands the novice and their lack of techno knowledge, even the lack and frustration of talking to a TMO rep, and 3rd loves to help people. Will we have all the answers, NO, but someone will, and that may educate all of us. Enjoy this feeling of people helping people, cause it may not last for ever, nothing does.

Ok just tried a new app and I really liek it. Its a shutdown windows like that of the one you get in XP when you go to shut down your PC. You can putin standby(screen off) shutdown. or softreset. You can also schedule the shuydown or even a soft reset for up to an hour. Want to restore your memory? Just have it soft reset every hour. BAM should give us a constant 20+M all the time I also have it mapped to my #4 button for push(hiold). or voice record notes. will be testing it more thouroughly tonight. Here is the link though.

http://www.savefile.com/files/7703650

On a seperate note, I want to thank MadDog for hooking me up with savefile.com. This si the site where I host all the links to apps and such for you all to download. HOFO only gives you so much upload space, then you have to start deleting things to upload a new file. Filesave.com is a GodSend, or should I say a DogSend HAHA!

I almost forgot the best part, Its FREEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!

Well I want to thank you for posting your jpg file which led me to my new home www.photobucket.com. It makes it so easy to post graphic files here on line, rather then try to use HOFO's limited capability.

Yeah, I had that on the list of things I've got on my phone too, I just wish I had the time and inclination to make a skin for it to match the rest of my phone's skin.

I had to revise this. 1st your POP account is a Protocal that sends and receives email via the internet using some email server. Data transferr is another type of service, like FTP (File transferr Protocal). Email protocals are sent and received via a server, from either your company, or your own POP accounts. Transferring data, like files, is something that is done via FTP (file transfer protocal), using TCPIP (the language for the internet). So NO if your using a wireless broadband service like Wi-FI, but if your using EDGE, or GPRS then u bet it will cost u, cause your using the Cell features of your phone.

T-zones, I believe, are for downloadling rings, and stuff from TMO using your cell phone, so there are charges. Hotspots, relevent to whether their are from TMO or Free Bees (learning to to spell now), you do not get charged using Free radio waves. If you use Hotspots from TMO, you are already paying for the service.

For example, I use my own pop accounts. Pop accounts are so easy to setup, even with simple websites for 6 bucks a month. I use verizon.net, yahoo, but for the most part I am a very independant guy. I get email all the time from my POP accounts, and never pay a dime, cause I am too cheap to buy the data pckg from TMO. So I cheat a lot. Say I go to Kinkos, I know TMO will charge me, except on a weekends special these days, so I will find somone who has FREE wireless. Many merchants are getting into offering wireless to customers, including Karate place next to Kinkos. My favorite restaurants all offer free wifi. As a matter of fact lots of FREE wifi all over the place. Libaries offer Free wi-fi, neighborhoods are full of people with free Wi-Fi routers. I have a wireless router in my home office, free only to me of course, cause Im carefull in protecting my LAN. I would pay, of course, to use WiFI hotposts, and even pay for the EDGE, if my life required me to need access everywhere, even on some remote island, if you get cell service.

Remember TMO is a business that cares only about your SIMM account and your monthly billing. They offer services like Hotspots, and Edge, because Mo money MO money, but they know you can easily get around this, cause u have something very powerful, built in Wi-FI

OK I am just slightly dissapointed in the psshutXP app. I will keep it, as it makes shutting down and resetting a tad bit easier and nicer to look at, but the reset interval doesnt work the way I had thought it would. If you set it to one hour, it resets in an hour, thats it. With the word interval over the time selection menu, i thought it meant it would reset in an interval of every hour. Oh well. Still nice and only 38Kb, its a keeper for me.

I know this is a random question on this thread, but I drag and drop links I want to keep using IE and Windows XP, just like most of you. How can you create folders in links area, so I can manage and organize my favorite MDA stuff and other links? Right know it is getting out of control with so many darn links.

Any one want to take a shot at this.

You should be able to go into windows\favorites with the file explorer and create a folder. I do mine through activesync so I just do it from IE. Oh crap I misread, you mean on the links bar on your IE. If you click favorites and hit organise favorites. You can go to the links folder and creat a folder inside of it. I have a couple of folders on my IE links bar. One for MDA and one for my Gaming. Then you can drag and drop your links into the folders and away you go.

On another note, I think I may have to hard reset again and go through all of the install process one app at a time. Something has cause my BT h700 to stop working right. It doesnt seam to be connecting at all. I removed it and paired it again but still having the same problem. This just happened within the past day so maybe I will go to my last backup from two days ago and go from there. I think the only thing i have installed since it worked last was the resco utility suite.

And another disappointment from teh psShutXP app. when you click the off button, it doesnt turn it off. Does the same thing that the standby button does. The same thing that tapping your power button does. Ok I wont be using that anymore now. That is just pointless now.

Posted by: tknospdr

Something may be wrong with your setup i3onk, when I press the 'turn off' button on psShutXP, my phone powers down. Light off turns my light off like pressing the power button quickly.

Thanks for dvise on regular IE. As far as ur h700. I gave mine to my daughter bro. And I picked up the H500. This one works well with MSVC and Hack using connect button. Not a perfect science, but works without messing with MDA, or BT SoundON. And it's pretty cheap on eBay.

Thats trouble shooting. A process of elimination. I always start with the last thing I installed. But with WM5, not like XP, removing the last install may not solve ur problem, but restoring last good working backup before resco should fix it. Then try re installing resco again, if same happens, you know the problem, if not, maybe something else going on, but then it should happen without resco. Work with ur backups so your down time is minimal. Worst scenario, go back to your raw backup with minimal installs and setups, just to see if BT works, then load from that point in different order this time, testing BT throughout. If all goes well, backup that configuration of apps right away.

Maybe that's part of the difference between ppc 2002 themes and WM5 themes? I wonder if the newer ones include separate image files for landscape mode...I haven't looked too closely yet, but that would make sense...

I knew about the favorites but have not messed with it for a while, also i wanted to create a folder in the actual links page because that is what ie uses on right side, but just highlighted links and created links\folders and started to drag and drop links into sub folders. Thanks for reminding me of something I have not paid much attention to since I got going with MDA and so many links.

On your backup note again. It can get confusing to trouble shoot, if you can't remember wht u installed last, or what happened. That is why I have a bottom of the line basic bck up with setups/configurations,etc., incase I have to revert to a real clean setup. You and I know that on any PC, or PPC too many things tried and loaded will corrupt any system sooner or later.

I've only been keeping half an eye on this sub-topic (yeah, I know, sounds painful!)...but I guess you're talking about browser favorites and the link bar in your PC, not the MDA...yes? If so (and I do NOT want to start a holy war in the middle of this thread, this is NOT intended as flame bait!), that's one of the reasons I love using Firefox (and there are many). Bookmark management in Firefox is fantastic. I cannot, to this day, understand why it is SO neglected in IE by comparison. I also have collected TONS of links since I started lusting for a new cellphone/smartphone a few months before settling on an MDA. I collected loads of links for MDA's and SDA's (and all their brethren under various names), upcoming Nokia cool phones and S60 smartphones, various Sony Ericsson phones, load of links for accessories, reviews, hacking and firmware sites, etc. Once I got the MDA, I immediately started gathering links to sites with firmware, mods, cases and holsters, screen protectors, charging cradles, memory cards, games and apps, skins and themes, etc, etc. I think it would have taken me twice as long if I had to manage all of these links under IE. Firefox bookmark manager really makes it easy to see the whole tree, create and edit subdirs, drag and rearrange the tree, etc. What's also wonderful is that you can display the bookmarks tree (and one of those branches is your links bar, with as many folders and subfolders as you wish to create and nest) in a separate window -- then when you double click any link in that window, your active browser window, which is separate, will update with the site you've selected in the bookmarks window -- make is SO easy to check all your links and rearrange / group them.

Sleepy now. Been a LONG week...month...year! Up to bed, and I'll try to read for a bit before passing out. Big work-related things coming up tomorrow and over the next week, and I suspect I should be a bit better rested before then.

Night all...

Well did a restore from a couple of days ago and was having the same prob. Again i deleted the h700 from my profile and repaired it and it worked fine. SO I restored back to last nights backup and did the same thing, this time it worked. So, I am good to go.

In response to a post on page 147...
You can also store ringtones in the root of your minisd card...
(you can store themes there as well).

Does anyone know of a utility that will run un attended applications on WM5. I am looking at current blogs to see if that is possible, or something tiny and simple I can download and try.

Unzip it, just DON'T use the aWizard beta version INCLUDED, substitude that with the I3onk regular aWizard which he posted a few posts back?? Good Luck

Thanks for advise bro, always appreciate a response. I have used firefox many times before, especially when my son was around, he had a wonderful way of attracting pop ups on Windows2K. I love Firefox, the only issue I have is, it started to nag me cause I had sites that would require Active X, which is a culprit I know, but a necessary evil . On my XP I use IE with pop up feature, along with Freebie MS Anti Spyware, my Norton Utilities virus online, and my old Zone Alarm Pro. And for the most part I avoid problems. As far as favorites, just did what I3onk said, I had not played around with that feature, but worked nicely, created folders in links folder now manage stuff.

I am going to give a try to Opera for Desktop PC, just to see how it feels on Desktop, before I get to into too many favorites.

But a couple of days ago I had a weird experience. I had to restore the XP sytem I like using. I had loaded just about everything, except SP2. When I went to HOFO, weird man A russian site kept popping up, I could not get rid of this crap russian site, only when I accessed HOFO. So left system off, then upgraded to SP 2 for XP pronto, and finally got rid of it. Weird, thought something caught me in between security installs. Man you can't get your stuff up fast enouph, sometimes ur better off unplugging network jack till ur done with restore on PC.

I was reading that same issues may nag us on a PPC, hackers!!

Yeah - the ONLY two reasons I keep IE around are 1) for the few sites that require use of an ActiveX control, and 2) for WindowsUpdate -- they will NOT let you access it unless via IE or a browser that's a wrapper around IE (such as AvantBrowser or Maxthon - both of which are excellent, btw).

Firefox has been really good - FAR less susceptible than IE to the worms and exploits that circulate the net. Also - the add-ons are tremendous, and the popup blockers (various available) are the best I've used. I love the fact that I can open new windows in tabs or in entire new windows -- that's the best of both worlds, and really comes in handy with dual monitor desktops (that's what I use).

Re: the russian site coming up on HoFo - from what I read, somebody had attacked the site -- this was some kind of redirect of the home page, but apparently didn't show if you came directly into a thread following a link to it. Nothing to do with your pc from what I understand. Just a coincidence.

So - I decided to NOT do a hard reset and reinstall everything just yet. Instead, I uninstalled PZP -- and of course, since this is WM5, it was a manual process removing files, directories, etc. after the "automatic" uninstall didn't work. Then I installed the new 6.0 production release of PZP. Restarted my MDA, and the world is bright and wonderful again. Everything working quite nicely, thank you!

I'll be getting the backup util and taking a snapshot of this setup. Then, next on the agenda will likely be trying overclocking, and possibly Wisbar Advance Desktop (WAD). But that's likely to be tomorrow...

Once my desktop is just right, and my MDA is feeling zippy, I'll start loading up my miniSD with some games and music. Hopefully it will be the 2gb miniSD -- ordered it last Friday, and I'm hoping to see it any day now...

I had same issue with the Russian site. It had nothing to do with SP2. Some idiot had just temporarily hacked HOFO.

Like I said, I like FF very much. I used it when it was Big time Netscape before IE, and before then was knows as Mozilla, I believe?, remember those days bro? Unfortunately my business puts me on sites with Active X, so just gave up.

Thanks for that bit of info on HOFO russian link. I was concerned a trojan horse snuck in my back door somehow..

I know bro, that un installd crap on WM5, I knew I could not be going crazy .

You seem to like PZP so much. Out side of WM5 feature of putting rings on individual contacts, which means I can have rings assigned to groups. I still don't know how to make PZP usefeul. That is why I don't use it, but i would like to see how u use it. Especifically a real life application for you, and why it actually makes ur life better.

Interesting on the over clocking bit?? I have done that on PC table tops before, especially with AMD chips. How do u over clock a PPC?? Interesting Bro

WAD is very cool in deedo! I like it a lot, for less then 10 bucks it was worth it. Once you got the skin you like, and I have the skin I really like, it's so easy to just change themes every once in a while for the heck of it. I feel WAD, Spb Pocket Plus, Spb Diary, and Tray Launcher all seem to work beautifully together .

I just learned that from Jonazan. Unfortunately it happened to me after just restoring and XP machine, so it blew me away for a moment, thought something caught me by surprise, unusual, but not impossible.

Sorry to post this again, but does anyone know of a utility that will run an un attended application on PPC. You kow trying to run something while im sleeping.

Posted by: i3onk

Oh you mean like a task scheduler? Ill look into it and see if I can find anything. What are you trying to run?

Here you go bro. didnt work for me when I tested it, but I didnt read the manual either. Maybe you can get it to do what you want.

So far I've tried two Resco products and neither work. The file explorer kept locking up my MDA and the radio program gives me an error on every stream I try to play.
Anyone have better luck with their products?

Posted by: tknospdr

I just downloaded MS Voice Commander from Handango. The damn thing comes as an .exe file.
I can't install .exe's from my Mac. Does anyone have it in a CAB format that I could get?

Thanks,
David

Jonazen.... Bro!

Here's a thought 4 ur bro. I got call from buddy who bought new system, and wanted to delete and wipe out his old C drive with very private info. He knows nothing about computers. He wants to give old systmem to kids. I told him to use eraser, then load xp again.

I have a bootable XP CD with eraser and many utilities. Great man, can boot from it like booting into XP but off CD using virtual RAM as HD.

But friend can't make it to my home tonight. I sent him an eraser link, for ereaser.exe good small for a floppy. After all sorts of instructions to him via email, I realized nothing I was explaining was making sense to me, cause you can't format a Floppy using XP machine. So I thought i'll give him the Dos bootable floppy with eraser.exe on it. Then it occurred to me, you can't boot up with a DOS floppy on XP machine which has NTFS installed, it will never see the old NTFS Drive. Man what a complication of crap! He's going to have to just stop by and let me boot from my bootable CD. Now he can make that old drive a slave, or 2nd master, on his new system, then try to run eraser, but he knows nothing of this stuff.. It's funny, cause you would think it's easy. But it's a complication with XP. Not like old DOS days

I hate using .exe files from PC, and I don't have a Mac. But on this one bro, I think your out of luck, cause you can't get it as a cab file unless you pay for it. Cause unlike other apps, The MSVC 1.5 v .cab file is the registered version. Meaning if you use a .cab file, once it's loaded on your PPC it does not require key or registration.

So how do you get the cab file?

Once you install MSVC using Activesync from PC, it not just loads it on your PPC program files, but then places a copy of the .cab file in your table top pc under Program Files/ Microsoft Activesync MSVoicecommand folder.

Now that creates a serious problem for you. Cause someone would have to email you their 1.5 v registered cab file.

P.S. I thought u guys on Mac's have that capability to use a Windows Environment (session), like some Macs can switch between Mac OS, Unix or Linux?

Man there is so much stuff out there besides games. Just about anything that worked for WM2003 SE (NOT CE) will most likely work on WM5. Also anything that works for a Smartphone, will most likely work on you WM5. The beauty of WM5 is it's is now compatibable with Smartphone apps. Because it's a Smartphone/PPC. Now not all smartphone apps may work, but I read a tech review from a guy who tested all of his Smartphone apps, including games, on his WM5 PPC with great succeess.

Just go to sites bro and check out the stuff.. "Try before you buy", what a beautiful concept in this world. Where else can we get this concept. Used to be called "Shareware".

Remember the movie Taxi. Are u talking to me!

O.k. I will assume you are since my name did not appear above, and we talk alot.

Here is my thought bro.... You keep looking for a way to get more RAM or clean up your system. You tried that utility which shuts down your PPC, resets, or something, with no luck.

I have tried looking for utilities that get you more RAM back. Memaid is great, but does not give me RAM back the way FREEUP RAM does. As a matter of fact, I have looked at my RAM before running Memmaid, and still the same figure.

This is installed by SKTools. BUT It loads seperate from all its sibling utilities when you run SKTools. As a matter of fact, I was trying to find FreeUp RAM, to get it to you, cause everytime I am low on RAM I run this.

Now if I can run a scheduler of some type that runs apps, I could before bed Run the quicky Memmaid first, then FreeUp RAM

FreeUP RAM gives me 2 MB's or better, and u can run consequitively to get even more RAM, or any time. But when I went to look for this file, using commander, cause it's not in programs, or when you run SKtools, or in program files, or anywhere, it drove me nuts, where is it??

But you can easily load it as a file using Spb plus. So i did a search and commander found it under applications, as lnk. But where is the .exe? So with commander I looked at the properties of Freeup RAM.lnk and it has a command line that goes like this, :SKTOOLS #H2. No expert on programing, but think #H2 is some sort of code routine command line, I think it uses SKtools.exe with some RUN routine.

That is want I want to do, use an app scheduler, simple tool, no memory hogger, once I retire to bed to clean up system with the quicky MemMaid (not advance), and FreeUP RAM.lnk to release my RAM. But can't seem to search and find a scheduler that just runs scheduled apps.

Any ideas?

Yo Dog --

Sure is a pain, isn't it? Gets to be very obscure knowledge -- second nature for you, but it's all voodoo to the "average pc user". There really ought to be a better way. If he were doing a new install of XP on the machine, he *could* use FDISK first, drop all partitions, and let the install create a new partition to format for XP. It should be nearly impossible for anybody to see any of the old data that way -- but doing that is NOT as thorough as doing a real disk wipe (like Eraser does), where you write hex zeros over the whole thing. Although a normal PC user wouldn't be able to see any of his old "Sensitive" data after all partitions were dropped and recreated, somebody with a disk analyzer and some experience *could*, theoretically, uncover some of his old data, although it wouldn't be very easy. If it's REALLY sensitive data (what, his private xxx collection? communications with aliens?), maybe wiping the drive is really appropriate. Shame it isn't more straightforward for novice users!

With the original minisd that came with the phone I used to have probs with it popping out on me. Didnt pop out all the way, just kind of shifted to one direction, and that was enough for it to not be seen. If that happens just push it all the way in and try running it again.

You guys have the weirdest experiences. My first TMO pocket PC had a terrible design, the SD card was at bottom of PPC. If I dropped it, which I did several times, the SD card was gone. My cover flip style, would protect SD somewhat when snapped, but always got unsnapped and lived for 2 years scared of loosing the SD card all the time. I was so happy to buy the MDA with the darn SD design on top. And it fits snug too. Man i must be weird.

I figured you were married once, you talked about borrowing your daughters 256MB card for the 2.17 upgrade. Well thank goodness my wife still looks as good as the day we married, 28yrs ago

It didnt actually pop out, its just kind of tilted to the side, just enough to not be seen.

Hay man on another note, I m thinking about u, and it makes me sad that you can't load MSVC. Don't u have a huny like I3onk with a windows PC? You could load MSVC, take ur .cab file and run! Kidding aside man, don't u know anyone with a windows PC in this MS world?

Yeah...this thread is going a bit off...if you skim the message quickly, seeing i3onk talking about his 19-year-old huni, and then saying things like, " It didnt actually pop out, its just kind of tilted to the side, just enough to not be seen"...

...and then YOU, with "...on top. And it fits snug too. Man i must be weird." Hey - this is an exact quote!

He shouldnt even need active sync to trasnsfer the file. All he should have to do is connect the usb cable. Active sync doesnt need to be running for the PC to see it, I think. lol

Except I'm on a Mac.

your mac doesnt see your MDA connected at all?

Any ideas?

Ok i just installed sktools. Looking for the freeup ram thing. Guess Ill go through these things one by one lol theres another couple of ours MDA time weeeeeee!!! lol

Nope, and from what I can tell, that's normal.

I should append that, I can send files to the MDA via BT but that's pretty much the extent of it. I'm alpha testing Missing Sync right now but it isn't working yet.

So I can send CABs to the phone for installation, but I'm out of luck with .exes.

Thanks,
David

Ha Yes good idea, but his problem is deeper than that. He needs to install MSVC on his PPC before he will get the .cab file. Remember?

I would contact MSVC sales and request the cab file. They may email it to him, since he paid for the application. The problem is, try getting anyone on MS sites, and your good, cause most of time its robots that respond.

I hate developers that do not offer the options to download the cab version. Non the less, after you install a pc version app u will get the cab, cause that's the only way active sync can load the application.

But if this guy cannot active sync on his MAC, his got problems bro. Cause many cab files come after the installs from pc. Now I don't need the installs anymore, espcially if I cold boot, cause I got all the cab files, from the sites that offer the option, or from the install versions who plant the cab files in the windows hotsync folder. Another reason why I don't own a Mac.

That's not a problem, all modern PCs speak TCP/IP. That's what I do for a living.

Hey I found you some sort of solution.... Read this, its a start.

Can you imagine having a Pocket PC and not being able to put new games on it? That's what Mac users have to deal with. I wasn't satisfied copying over music and eBooks * I wanted to be able to install new software on my Pocket PC without using ActiveSync. However, this turned out to be more complicated than the simple file transfer described above.

Ok that should be easy then man. Try this. In your c\program files create a folder called Microsoft ActiveSync. Run the exe. hopefully it will create a folder inside the Microsoft ActiveSync folder. In there is where the cab file will be. if not, check in the program files folder itself. There should be a folder that the exe created and that will have your cab file in it.

Or you can do this. Tell me again what app it is. Ill dl it, get you the cab and give you a link to DL it from.

Heres what I got out of that article.

I couldn't use ActiveSync to connect my Pocket PC to my Mac, but I could run ActiveSync on my Mac using Virtual PC. I clicked on the installer in Virtual PC and went through the installation process up to the point where it told me that I wasn't connected and that it would install the software the next time I did connect. Then I went hunting for the .cab files. The installer unpacks .cab files for each processor type and saves them in a user-specifiable directory on the C drive. The .cab files remain there patiently until the next time you connect to a Pocket PC (although, in the case of the Mac, you never actually do). All you have to do at this point is locate the appropriate .cab file on your computer, copy it to your CF card, and move it to the Pocket PC as described above. As far as I can tell, all downloadable software is available to you, even if you have a Mac and can't physically connect to a Pocket PC.

Yeah I know, didnt really have a RAM problem till now though. So now I follow

Guess I will just go ahead and get it now. I havnt registered memmaid yet, so maybe I will use this for all my memory needs. Seams a bit involved so I will have to get it setup for a one touch clean up as well. Have my voice record push(hold) button set to resco file explorer right now. i use that app so much right now, i needed it handier than just on my tray launch, lol. Looks like this thing will take care of all my tweaks2k2 needs as well. like 4 of my apps all rolled into one.

Good.. On another note. You changed ur dialer didn't you? Did you use this, check it out. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=886355

I never cared for this feature anyway "The E-Ten Dialer does not support "Smart Dial"". Did u use the E=ten dialer, and then the skin?

Yup, I used Eten. I dont use smartdial anyways, since I have contactbreeze. Hell I dont think I have even dialed a number from the dial pad yet. The only reason I use the dialpad is for entering tones, ie...accessing bank via phone, voicemail prompts. But yeah I knew it didnt work with smartdial. Once installed you lose your OEM dialpad as well. It wont be there if you uninstall Eten. Im not worried about that either. If I really need the original dialpad, ill just hardreset, get the files, then restore from a backup and install the files.

I actually use the gray skins. There are a total of 6 now with the new orange one. You want them all? I can zip the up and put them on savefile for you.

SKTools, bought and registered. Man going to take me days to get it setup the way I want LMAO

Do a restore real fast of your last good backup. Then DL the files from here.

http://www.savefile.com/files/1680198

Then install the eten dialer and soft reset. then install the desired colors in your windows folder and let them overwrite. softreset again and It should be there.

Remember dont install the whole folder into windows directory, just the contents inside the folder.

don't know what it is about these links on boards sometimes, just like tray launcher. You always seem to get a better version bro. I am unzipping eten right now, but already can tell urs is much bigger file then the one I tried. Stay tuned i guess, got go to bed man, get up at 5am and it 1245ET But this file of urs still unzipping?

It even asked me to reset device, after cab install, that did not happen with that guys eten on that link I gave u.

Mine is probably bigger because I added in all 6 colors of pads. blue, green, red, grey, orange and white.

Posted by: MadDogX007

O.K it worked but stillgetting blue skin. Man can PIE have one prompt to replace all. Should hve used commander. Anyway still with blue skin but am resetting..

If you used resco explorer you would get that one prompt to overwrite all

Ok man, hope it worked out for you. Time for me to go to bed. Night all

The E is just a different icon it didnt change your gprs settings, just changed it to the edge icon.

The comm manager icons are these. The phone allows you to turn your radio on and off. Its like going into flight mode. Vibrate is simply to put your phone in vibration mode. You can also do this by simply holding yoru comm button for a few seconds. The envelope is for push email. If you dont have microsoft exchange hooked up them you dont need to worry about it, it should be greyd out. Tmobile doesnt have pushemail yet. The pda with the arrows I thin is for IR beaming, that Im not sure of, but it should be greyd out as well.

I dont know why you are having the GPRS issues. Just changing the icon would not have affected this. If you dont like the E icon, you can change it back to the G with tweaks2k2. Make sure the phone icon doesnt have an x on it. The icon should be yellow.

Sure - pocket pc viruses are certainly possible - and they DO exist.

First one that was officially recognized as such as "Dust" in July of 2004. Since then, McAfee claims to have become aware of about 200 mobile viruses.

They're still relatively rare, but as more and more people get online with online versions of Windows Mobile, this is eventually likely to become a real problem. For now, I'm just being very careful, and keeping good backups of everything important on my MDA. I do NOT want to bog down my MDA with a full time background antivirus scanner -- that would pretty much bog it down horribly, and it's easy enough to reinstall should the need arise. I would rather be faced with having to spend the time doing that if I had to instead of having my MDA be dog slow all the time.

Exactly, Imate realized this with the antivirus program that originally came with the first batch of K-Jams back in Oct. 2005, all of them were very slow and since then they made a change to the program to put the anti virus in the add/remove programs and as of now I dont believe it is even included on their roms. It was a real pain and the only way to delete it was to hack into the ext rom and then hard reset.

No there isnt. And there is also no way to make them stay on longer. I dont mind the blue KB lites, but I would much rather have them on for a couple seconds longer, and maybe light up when you slide it open.

Ok I have a question that I don't have an answer to yet. Dont feel like testing it to find out unless I have too. Primarily for MadDog and Jonazen. If for some reason I had to reflash my ROM back to the OEM TMO ROM, would I be able to use the SBP restore file that I made from the 2.17 ROM.

I think I may have just answered it in my head. Im pretty sure it will work because I dont think SBP backup images any of the ROM files. I dont however think it would have a positive effect for me. Since the 2.17 has trimmed out things on the PPC and cut alot of stuff from the TMO EXT ROM, that would normally be in the program files menu. Restoring form my 2.17 Backup may make some of the apps that come with OEM TMO ROM inopperable, as the files would no longer be in the proper directrories.

Well, Im glad I answered that one.

Yeah I like talking to myself too.. That is why BT made it easy for me not to look crazy in the car talking to myself I am not crazy anymore with BT, am I talking to me? or on BT?? hahaha

I hope u never have to back to old ROM boy. For non of us.. Although I will be very curious about the upcoming TMO upgrade. Will it be same as 2.17, or will they have added a neat feature, or two? Can we upgrade to the new TMO official Rom, or will we have to go back to old ROM first, before going to official ROM. Questions? Questions? Lets hope TMO's official ROM is not better than 2.17, and that would put us ahead of the crowd .

Not sure it will work. Let me tell you why. I had backup with old ROM and it did not work with new rom, started too, but then locked up. I remember when I upgraded my iPaq 6315 to TMO's newest Rom. One of the statements on TMO site was, to activesync first, cause ur old bckup will NOT work with new Rom. So I do not believe it is backwards compatible. Good thought

Yeah... I had a similar experience - just not so far away. I had my headset on and the phone rang, so I tapped the button to answer, took the call, chatted and hung up. Then I looked around and couldn't find the phone. Took me a few mins to remember that it was in my gym bag in the back of my SUV. Got a good laugh out of that!

Hey Bros, howdy doodie, cornie ha...haha... Hey I was in need of a link I put up a long time ago in reference to a very hot ppc phone coming out in future to compete with HTC, but can't find it, ouch..

I went back way way back on this baord, and man we could write a boot about the MDA! Man my boy Jonazen goes back a long way giving advice. As a matter of fact I3onk has his fair share of posts. Man some people have dropped off like flyes. This thread is like bootcamp for the MDA.

I thought this was intersting. It felt like going back in time. How much attention I missed. Here is a link to Jonazens Today screen.. hehe http://www.howardforums.com/showthr...&page=113&pp=15 Still have this setup bro? What do u got again, it looks like u have WA, and something like Spb Plus, tell me again bro, what u got on that baby MDa of yours

I even got tons of interesting links, from the past, now that I am managing my IE Favorites. Cause there is an abondance of information here. My neck is killing me from reading stuff way back. I am impressed with the quality of informaiton on this MDA hack thread. Wow!

Hey man, good evening. Are you talking to me !! O.k. enouph with Robert Deniro, or whatever taxi movie bit.

I used to have the Motorola H700, bought 2 of them, one for me, and wifee. It's suppose to be the greatest and the latest. But i sacrafised mine to my daughter, cause the connect button on it never worked with MSVC. So I went and down sized to the H500 cause it works with MSVC, and there was a deal at Radio Shack with a Dongle. I know Jonazen's H850 works too. The distance thing on H500 was a surprise to me, cause I did not buy it for the purpose of walking away far far away, but hey it worked It works nicely too ag gas pumps with MDA in car. But hey all BT headsets suppose to work 30 feet, so they say...

I love this little screen capture Jonazen gave us moons ago, but I paid no attention. I paid 4.99 for mine, and it made me sacrafice a button. With the Free Bee from Joanazen, is works much better, a little screen pops up, you go to the screen u want to caputure, click ok, u wait a second, another screen tells the jpg/bmp is in the temp folder. It won it's way to my Tray Launcher!

Well here is my final look with all the apps I will be using http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/display_1.jpg

Here is another neeto theme that looks good with my skin http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/display_2.jpg

What I love about Wisbar Advance 2. It will change font colors based on the theme u select. Pick a dark background, font colors change to white. Pick a light theme, colors turn black, pick something else, colors turn what ever, in this case see how the font colors adjusted to blue. http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/display_4.jpg Of course themes are important to visual effect, this one is just to show the font color change.

Here is my daughters favorite theme. So much fun man!! http://i69.photobucket.com/albums/i...7/display_3.jpg

YES!! MSVC makes this PPC, any PPC worth every cent. I can't leave home without it! I don't even mess with my PPC when driving anymore.

Absolutely not bro on rom. Just need the hack.

You must have Microsoft Voice Command installed to use this hack. Open up a registry entry program with your favorite reg editor. Then goto "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\Path". Change the default value from "\Windows\SDDialer.exe" to "\Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe". Now you should be able to activate Micrsoft Voice Command by pressing the connect button on your bluetooth headset.

Don't want to mess with registry for MSVC hack? Don't want to buy Tweak2k2 which has hack, here is a Free Bee http://www.burling.co.nz/Downloads/...05/Default.aspx

We don't have A2DP Streaming stereo on MDA, yet, and even then you would want BT Stereo head set only. But you can get music, games sounds, what ever, using BT if you use something like BTSoundON Free bee utility.

You can't download MSVC, you can only buy it. There is no try before you buy with this product.

Search on google lots of reviews and where to purchase.

It fits in the palm of ur hand bro, 8GB 512RAM 512ROM?? I don't think it's much bigger than MDA by far. But it does have custom applications, if you look at tech page, or other links. Not cheap either, read about 1K may be less in real market, possibly 800, maybe if we wait a year 500 or less, who knows..

Here is another one.... 512MB RAM and ROM http://www.ppcsg.com/index.php?showtopic=74099

Yeah I already installed it, getting ready to try it in a minute. I dont mine try before you buy. I prefer it. I have a couple of trial versions Im not going to bother paying for. Like my mobile pool, no need to pay for different backgrounds(garage, bar, ect ect) It came with the garage, can play 8 and 9 ball.

Also yeah send me that skin. I like the icons on it. Im getting the hang of changing things on these skins. a couple more days of it and Ill be a pro lol.

yeah that volley ball game plays great without buying it, I don't get stuck on it, but that other one Endslave could be a keeper game for me. I like shootem up games better than anything. I got that Gilbert Goodmate PDA, it's like the Monkey Island series games from Lucas, ever played those, my kids were hooked on them. But it's one of those games that takes so much time to solve puzzles, the neat thing is, the software company gives you additional downloads like free sound and speech, which is really very cool, and it takes up a lot of storage. I love the speech but takes for ever to solve games puzzles, so I rarely play it, but cool to hear it.

Well time for another day for bed, talking about weddings, I got a wedding to go to tomorrow afternoon, friend, and still have to get up early to excercise. 2AM here. I forget when u get online that ur 3 hours behind me, I think ur a trooper, and realize it 3 hours ahead for me. Lately i have been going to bed really late, cause ur so much fun dud. Let me know what u think of that Endslave, or what ever game, I tried it and played for 20 minutes bro, had to give it up for tonight.

Posted by: i3onk

Will do man, night.

I think I am going to definitely get one MadDog, though I think I'll wait until the price drops a bit, at least to the 500-600 range

Yeah - nice! I have to start playing with customizing the skins also. Been lazy so far just using them as delivered. Time to crank it up a bit -- and when I have the time, I really enjoy messing around with image editors. Never been a real "artist", but I've been using tools like CorelDraw, PhotoImpact, Xara Extreme, Photoshop, PaintShopPro for years, and I've done lots of user interfaces (also dabbling in Flash in my "spare time" - check the intro on my website at stronggroup.com).

So...yes! I like what you've done with the skin, and it's helping to get me inspired, actually, to stop being lazy and get working on customizing a skin set myself! (thanks for the nudge!)

The MDA is already pretty much at the limit of what I can tolerate in that regard.

MadDog, what's the link to the free screen capture?
Also, the link to the VoiceCommander hack has dead links on it's page, can someone else host them?
Finally, you can try before you buy VoiceCommander at Handango.com

External antennas that plug into the actual adapter on the outside of the phone will, in fact, boost your signal level that your phone captures. But those little stick-on patches that go in the battery compartment are bogus.

Ur right, I got to stop looking at other PPC's, cause it drives me nuts. I had the first TMO pocket PC for 2-3 yrs with 32MB Ram, and 256MB SD card, NO ROM, and never worried. Since I got the MDA, all I do is hack and upgrade, it's a sickness bro.... I am happy with MDA, and for all sake an purposes not sure what to do with 8GB built in, would not mind, 128MB RAM, and 256MB ROM though, and a little faster CPU like the Vario II coming out about 312Mgz, I think. the problem draw back, if any, with Vario II, the CPU about the only new thing they changed, the look and feel is nicer on our MDA, in my opinion. Don't u think?

the link u got from my bro Jonazen. Here is the hack u want for MSVC.

"HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\OEM\VoiceCommand\Path". Change the default value from "\Windows\SDDialer.exe" to "\Program Files\Voice Command\VoiceCMD.exe". Now you should be able to activate Micrsoft Voice Command by pressing the connect button on your bluetooth headset.

Don't want to mess with hacking registry or buying Tweak2k2 with hack, here is a free bee

Also this is a good forum here in HOFO for more hacks I have been haning out in.. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=895256

Did not know MSVC was available as try before u by, I guess I had done so much reviewing on this product, that just bought it outright.

Good luck

I dont like it. They keyboard mainly. Thats the reason I didnt go with Cingulars PPC. I love the keys on the MDA. I think Ill wait for that Malaysian model you posted yesterday. 512 ram and 512 rom with a 8G HDD. Im all over that lol.

I haven't tried it since I don't need it with my BT headset...but have you tried that BT audio switching utility that's been floating around? I thought it's whole purpose is to switch the BT audio gateway on and off manually?

I haven't tried it yet, but I'm looking forward to trying out the audio equalizer in TCPMP to tone down the high frequencies and try to boost the bass a bit. Might get some nice sound of the MDA speakers for movie watching (although that will probably eat the batteries more quickly than using a headset!).

Do you have a link to either of these? I can test them both out thisweekend, and give you guys a review to let you know how they work.

I got a free one with my 2gb miniSD card. I slipped it behind my battery as they suggested, and it made absolutely no difference at all. A neat way, by the way, to check signal level is to use Voice Command. You can ask it, "what is my signal level?", and it will report back, as in "Your signal level is 93%". This is a lot easier to interpret than when you squint at a teensy meter and try to estimate what level it's showing you.

I also did some googling about these antennas, looking for legitimate sites that actually try to come up with quantitative tests. They couldn't come up with anything to suggest that these "antennas" work at all -- which makes sense, considering that they don't touch the actual phone antenna or leads. Additionally, if such a simply idea made a meaningful difference, it would be the first thing that cell phone manufacturers would do with their own products...

So...mine had a 5 minute test by a very skeptical tester (me), and was promptly discarded...

Oddly enough...I just did a search for the util, and found one of MadDog's posts on an MSDN forum, providing the link for downloading the BTAudio Toggle Utility.

Here's a link to the page with MadDog's post:

Excellent! Very interested in hearing about this. If it works -- I'll certainly want to try the TCPMP equalizer in combination with BTAudio and a BT headset for watching movies or listening to audio recordings. Might really make things sound a lot nicer.

where can I get the equalizer? Just tried searching google for it and couldnt find it, although I didnt look that hard. Im just feeling lazy today lol.

It's part of TCPMP, in the settings pages....

BT Toggle works great. Im watching South Park the movie listening through my H700 now. Sound is by far not the best. Keeping in mind that South Park doesnt have the best sound as it is. There is alot of highs in the sound. Would love that equalizer. Im downloading spiderman2 now. Ill let you know how that sounds in a while. Got about another day to DL it. But it works great. I set it up to a shortcut on my Traylauncher.on before starting the movie, off when its done. You can verify that it is on by just touching a button on your MDA> That is if you have hardware clicks on.

Have no idea how long the BT battery will last though.

I have come to the conclusion that power is the root of all satisfaction in electronics, cars, what ever. I may never use 8GB internal, especially with 512MB ROM, but I guarantee u I will probably try like my entire CD collection on MP3, or something.

When I first bought the 1GB card for my iPaq, I said, man thats a lot of space, I have a 256 MB card, and cannot fill it up. Sales guy said, you'll find something. It was a SD sale that day, and the 512MB was as much as the 1GB, so I'de have to be stupid to pay for the 512MB.

Well I started to use the iPaq more as an MP3 player, and to my surprise got excited about music again, but it did not take long before i filled it up with my stuff, plus music. As a matter of fact I could not get many CD's to MP3 to my liking on the 1GB.

Ipods have 60GB. Some may think it's foolish, true, it may be me, but someone is a very serious music Mp3 lover, or movie lover, and these files compressed or not are the killers of storage space, you can never have enouph bro.

And if PPCs start coming out with fast CPU's 512MB of RAM, that's spells more code and freedom for programmers to make bigger and better apps. Right now mobile word is a sibling to desk top word, a watered down version, but what if word on a ppc had same power of a desktop? Games could be awesome, case in question, CD Roms vs DVDs? Explotions are better, graphics are better on DVD, cause programers are left to use imagination cause power and space are there for support.

There is absolutely no reason that a PPC today can't compete with the best of laptops in today's markets to some degree. I m a conspiracy type of guy. I believe business gurus would have to be dumb and dumber, to offer the filet mignon with potatoes, when they can just keep us satisfied with hambergers and french frys, then maybe Steak and frys, then maybe NY Tender Loin and potatoes, sooner or later Filet Mignon. Mo money, mo money upgrading.

so u best believe I'm keeping an eye on that baby! Cause it makes me feel, well remember that phrase you used a while back, like the hacker movie, I feel like GOD!

BTSoundOn won't work before playing movie?

Posted by: i3onk

I wasnt using btsoundon. I never had any of those for my device because I didnt use msvoice. I always use the standard TMO voice dial. works great for me with my BT. But now, with the BTToggle(which comes with a bttoggle.exe a btsoundon.exe and a btsoundoff.exe) Im good to go.
Just got done watching about 20 minutes of Spiderman 2. It had japanese( I think) subtitles, but the sound was in english. Sound was decent. Would still like to see about that tcpmp equalizer though. Although, everything I have found reguarding the equalizer, refers to it having it built in. Nothing user adjustable. Guess I may have to look a little bit more. If I put my OEM stereo earbuds that came with the phone in, it sounds great. But just with the H700, sounds ok but not great. Sounds good enough though for me to use, instead of having to carry around the earbuds.

My review for the BTToggle, is a strong 8 out of 10. The only thing lacking in this app is the ability to SEE when it is turned on. Like i said though, if you have hardware clicks on then you just need to hit a button and you can hear the click in your ear. The sound quality is not an issue controlled by this app, therefore has no bearing on my review. Great app, i will make great use of it.

Hey bro check this out. I was on HOFO discussion board about rings, and guy made some sense and said, why does anyone pay for rings, when you can saveas MP3 "try" music and then use a product like mpTrim get ring you want from song. He then refers a site called allofmp3.com. So I go to this site, and look up the soundtrack from hackers movie, and find it. I can't find that on iTunes, or Rapsody, so Im impressed, and join. Allofmp3 allows you to download in any format, and in three flavor kbps for cents, not .99 cents like others, but .11 cents, .40cents.

Here's the kicker, I told my 15 yr old that I joined allofmp3 and put 10 bucks on file, that she can use it to downlod some music, and she hits me with a curve punch. She says, "dad I get all my music for free on myspace.com?" So I said, whaaaat?? I ask her to show me , she goes on myspace.com and shows me how to get music like Led Zepplin, Van Halen, and more for FREE?? Some music you can hear, but cannot download, but you can download many, like Deep Purple, Pink Floyd, for FREE?? Wow?? !5 yr old just tought me something new. Is myspace.com legal? Unbelivable or what? And the best yet, you have to donwload nothing to hear music, right now Im listening to great stuff for FREE!! And even download some.

Now I now myspace.com is controversial, but she says she only downloads her music, that's it. I believe her, good girl, but FREE music?? I thought that was illigal??

Posted by: ilvla2

She's 15, and she actually knows who Led Zeppelin and Van Halen are, right on! I'm 34, so those guys I know a lot, especially Van Halen, I came of age in the 80's and I'm an 80's music nut to boot Van Halen ROCKS!

BTSoundON gets a 10 in my books bro, here is briefly why. If you don't have BT headset on, or something is wrong with BT, BTSoundOn gives u error popup. But mostly because the MDA does not have A2DP stereo streaming for Stere BT headsets support, but there is a upgrade coming out for HTC devices based on XDA forums. So the fact that u can hear sound, games , anything in privacy, using BT, even if it's not stereo, in my book gives it a 10 for effort and blessing it even exists.

TCPMP? You have a link to it? Also, I need your help in another thing. I used tweak2k2 3.20 to tweak my MDA and theres this option that delays your rings to have a 3 second gap between each ring. My trials periods expired and even though I dont remember enabling it this happens. It has to be tweak2k2 or can it be something else messing up my rings?

I grew up in early 70's. My kids all grew up listening to my music. Unlike my fathers time, which I did not really care for his music, my kids love rock, plus their own taste of stuff, which some I like, some I don't, funny. Yet they all love Rock & roll. My 25 yr old son-in-law, and my 19 yr old son formed a band, all they play is good old rock & roll. One of their favorite movies . http://www.apple.com/trailers/paramount/school_of_rock/

If you can't get the answer here try this thread just for hacks only. http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=895256 You should always have a registry backup before messing with tweak2k2, or registry on ur own. I don't even know what all the registry hacks really do without causing some issue for myself. A hard lesson to be learned follows u, if you don't have reg bkup.

Rings are fun. On WM5 you get a very nice feature, you can change rings for any contact. I love using it to group people, like my family all have the same song. I have different groups of clients, and business companies with different rings. Rings control the way I answer my phone.

Make your own rings..

I am getting into downloading free mp3's from my http://music.myspace.com/index.cfm?...3868C3F95582006 music section. Crazy site that lets you download FREE Mp3's weird. I started a collection of rock stuff, 70's 80's music.

I also run concurrently now http://allofmp3.com . Mp3 music is the chepest I have ever seen. Complete CD's for less the 1.5 dollars, incredible. If I can't get it for FREE on MySpace.Com, I pay cents for a song, like .08 cents, amazing!

Anwyway, you can download mp3 music free, or pay, or just listen to some on iTune, Rapsody, and download the try version to a folder (click right mouse button over song link and save as). Then use free apps like http://www.mptrim.com/mpTrimFAQ.html to cut your mp3 music down to 30-60 seconds for phone ring. U need to convert mp3 to .wav, then place the .wav file in the windows/ring folder and bingo you got custom rings.

Great info - definitely going to check these sites.

One thing though - can't you also use MP3's directly as ringtones? I thought you only had to convert to wav's for notifications -- but ringtones can be any of the major formats, including MP3 (I thought!)...

Got to think about this one, u could be right.... wait let me look at my rings, just started with this new process of Mp3 last night, have not converted anything yet.

Before I started learning about the idea above FREE rings, I bought a pkg of rings it came in two formats, mp3 and .wav. Only the .wav files are seen by WM5 for rings, under sounds. I could be wrong but think it's correct.

Updated: Ur right! I just tried an mp3 song from that list I got, and both wav and mp3 work for rings. Good!

OK...just took a look at myspace...and can't believe how much stuff they have up there for download. I'm amazed they haven't been shut down by RIAA yet...didn't Rupert Murdock just buy this site? I'd think he would want to avoid the potential for copyright infringement lawsuits. Wow. Anyway...fun to "look" around there while it's still like this!

Man I was up till 3 am last night downloading stuff from Led Zepplin, I made a list of 70's groups bro. Cause I just don't get it! See my post above my daughter told me about this, check out my previous post on this issue. Pls..

I also got Iron Butterfly In a Gadda da vita, man great stuff for FREE??????

And if they don't have it, check out AllOfMP3.com bro, cheap cheap very cheap, shocking too, cause I use to pay .99 cents, popular cds for .11 cents per song???? Also best site I have been too for music I like, and I use to have Rapsody monthly subscription which I canceled, and iTunes, ha o.k. at best..

Posted by: MadDogX007

Jonazen.. Try this, 15 yr old tought me easy way. Click on music, then see Search Artists, click on search by category, select Band Name, then as example type in Led Zepplin, look down for cd's, some with cd group pictures, some with no pictures, not sure why, yet, the links that have plays: 7,444 (could be more or less, but not zero, for example), will give u actual music, and possible downloads.

I m in heaven looking at music If have not heard in years.

I want you to know something about myspace.com Jonazen, cause u have younger kids, be very carefull. I have had experiences with my 19 yr old son once, all turned out great, but felt stupid trusting when he was same age my 15 yr old is. I am taking my 15 yr old off this site with my router features. Her school sent us a notice about how dangerous myspace.com and a few other sites are for kids, lots more than just music bro, bad stuff all over the place.

For now I am just going to take what I need and shut it down.

I hear you - thanks. I was aware of myspace - had just never been there before tonight. Also heard some of the stories - my kids are younger (7 and 12) - and are pretty limited as to what kinds of sites they can visit. I've been online since before the WWW (gopher, compuserve forums, etc), and have also run sites with big audiences, chat, etc as well as usenet newsgroups (ugh!) - I'm VERY aware of what they might run into out there, so we talk a LOT, and they surf in the same room with one of us...

So far my younger one has only been to sites like sesamestreet.com -- and the older one is VERY aware of limits, and that privileges depend on staying within limits. But I also keep a close eye on the places he visits. Way too many loons out there...

WOW! If you think myspace.com is "bad", then you must be very jaded about the internet in general...... Websites like myspace.com are great tools.. And if your kids are going to get in trouble with it, they will find a way to get in trouble even it it's not on myspace.com.. Be a good parent and teach your kids not to do dumb stuff, instead of blaming it all on everyone/everything else........

Really not anything new - and most of us with kids aren't just discovering the risks for the first time. Anytime you have a venue where people can meet and talk anonymously, you can have a great forum and you can also find people who abuse it. The more convenient the "tools" - the easier it is to use - the more of this you'll see. I really doubt that most parents are just now, for the first time, realizing that online chatrooms attract pedophiles. Doesn't hurt, though, for people to discuss these issues and raise awareness.
