Having been in computer industry for 17 years taught me that years ago. My entire home office network is on UPS. But unfortunately the power went dead during night, after a car hit a power unit, and eventually even UPS systems can only stay on for so long. Besides that one particular pc with storage card backup was shut down a few days ago, os it's a power supply issue. But thanks for the insight.

I know, but the funny thing is bro, I have more protection than the round table or armor. I have UPS on all my systems, including backup for LAN, Wi-Fi, but all went dead cause of a major power failure in area, UPS can only stay on so long. The interesting fact is, I talk about getting away with FREE BEE wi-fi, and don't have GPRS/EDge, yet, realized I had no wi-fi access.

I had business to do, and felt totally out of it. I now wonder if gprs/edge may not be in my future plans, but hate contracts. If his happens again. Good news is, electric came back soon, bad news is, I still have the problem with the MDA storage card corruption, but have to wait till weekend to take care of it.

In contact breeze, there is a drop down on the today screen letting you list by all buisiness, holiday, personal and seasonal. Make the move to SBSH, you know you wantto LMAO.

Possibly. But the only other BIG issue I have with Contact Breeze is that it does not offer links on email display on today screen? Was this a weird issue, or is there a new version that gives you the email links.

UPDATE: Boy when it rains it shts too.. I had electrical problem in neighborhood this morning, all power was dead. The pc I backed up my card too seems dead too.. Man o man, what a world, what a world..


I3onk, remeber this screen I put up. Weirdest thing I cannot reformat this card. I am using SKTools and it will not reformat. Keeps telling me that operation failed, some files don't exists in deleting list. Weird... If this would hve been a new 2GB card, I would be pi ssed.

Update: Weird. I removed the miniSD card from MDA, and put it in regular SD cartridge, and put it in my older TMO Pocket PC, and it showed nothing in it. Then removed it and placed in back in MDA, and showed nothing in it too. As if all was wiped out. Now before I did the little operation above, I had used SKTools to empty card, cause it would not format it, but it would not empty those weird folders. Very strange indido

I would get a mini sd reader and plug it into the USB port of your PC and then try reformatting it that way to be saure you got the issues fixed.

As far as contact breeze. No you still cant open links with it. Diary is still probably the better of the two. Im just trying to bring you to the dark side. LOL Maybe Ill give diray one last try again for s*#ts and giggles.

I wish I could turn off the calendar tab on diary and just use the message portion of it. Then I could add it to my pocketbreeze and that would be great.

Thats a big issue for me links with pb not having linkss on email.

On another note concerning the issue with mini card corruption. Incredible. After seeding it back on MDA with new folders weird things starting happening, as if i was invaded by some virus, alothough im still not convinced that even happened. My system went nuts. My Wad2 would not load properly, my Weather would not load, my stat would only show two options, and neither one was helpful. I could not get to my cafrd to restore, also system froze. I had to finally cold boot and again pray. But system reformatted and i restored and all works well. Very weird experience..lol

Not sure thats possible or it would defeit the purpose of Diary. But u can put seperate diary items in Spb Plus tabs and leaave out contacts. I hhave played around with that and it works nice. I have for example put Spb backup on a tab. Once u start putting diary on the tabs it removes itself from today screen. Once u remove diary from tabs completely, meaning what ever options u chose, like only messenger, it goes back to tje today screen. cool lol.l

Guys - I've seen you post about this before - but I just checked again, and if I understand what you're talking about, I do NOT have the same issue.

I just scrolled through some of the email on my MDA via PocketBreeze on the Today screen. Opened one, clicked an embedded link, and PIE opened right on the page. Worked perfectly. I've done this before, and never had a problem.

Still wondering if it has to do with the fact that I have never yet installed another browser - just still using PIE, but as I recall, you've both installed Opera. I'm thinking your problem is due to the Opera install changing the default app that responds to a "URL" item type.

But just to reiterate - as long as you haven't installed another browser, you CAN click on a URL embedded in an email that you access via PocketBreeze on your Today screen.

Teh thing is Pocket breeze doesnt open a little preview window witht he message in it. Diary does and lets you click on the link within it to open the browser. With PB you have to open the message in messeges and then click on the link.

Thats it in a nutshell. Its onthe today screen. When i first use pb the first thing i noticed is that you get the email msg sort of like a text msg msg with url li.nks grayed out. On diary same little window gave actuAl links which pull up opera right away.

Gotcha...yes - it would be nice to have a hover/popup with the message in it...

I pretty much use the OEM messages today plugin. It works good, and when I get a notification, I usually either open and read it right away or just delete it from the notification popup.

On another note. I finally tested something cool with agile that I hadnt tried before. It has a push to talk function. Works almost like a nextel for IM's. As long as the person is on their PC IM'g you, you PTT then it sends them the voice recording. Works great. Saves me time typing. Which in turn keeps me from getting busted so much at work lol. Dont even have to open the phone. I have it mapped to my messages soft button. I get an IM, push speak my mind, and keep on with my work. Then read the response they typed. I have gotten great feedback from the people I IM with the PTT feature. I have had issues with Agile in the past, but this may be a factor for me dealing with the issues and keeping it. Of course this is after I already paid for IM+ lol.

I have paid for enough PPC software, I could setup 2 PPC's and neither of them with the same software, HEHE!

I just upgraded to the 2.21 ROM, and everything seems to be OK--except for some reason the signal strength icon on my top bar is not skinning. With the same setup with 2.17 it skinned fine.

I'm running WA2 with the Juni Black & White skin. I tried deleting all the skin files and reinstalling them--didn't help. I then deleted all the skin files again, then uninstalled WA2, which didn't uninstall--so I deleted all the remaining files, including the registry items. Then reinstalled WA2, soft reset, installed the skin files, soft reset. Still doesn't skin the signal strength icon.

Couldn't find any answers in the Lakeridge forums or on Juni's site.

Anyone have any ideas? I know there was some discussion of some skinning issues before here, but I couldn't find anything other than setting a boot delay for WA2 (mine is set for a 10 sec delay).

That is an interesting problem. I havent had this issue with 2.21. try another skin, even the default skin. See if that works. Let me know if that works. I will see if I can work on another solution until you get back to me.

If you upgrade to ANY rom and do not back up your data you will lose everything, except items saved to your memory card (mini sd)

You can overclock using OmapClock and can find it here: http://www.jcvlending.com/maddogx007/index.html

Upgrading to 2.21: You must do a backup. You can use older backup, if you have one already, for contacts, My documents and email. Restoring a DATA file from old 1.18, or 2.17 backup may cause you issues. We have tried it before. So I am saying to restore your contacts, my documents, and email only once you upgrade to 2.21.

Your going to have to reload your software again. Upgrading ROMs is a process, but once you do it successfully, then you need to do another backup of entire system, data and all. Good Luck

I use Tom Tom Navigator 5 with a Bluetooth GPS reciever I found on Ebay for $40. Works extremely well on the MDA! I am able to use it while driving as my navigation ( I travel a lot for DJ'aying gigs), listen to MP3'S, and if the phone rings, answer it via a BT headset... all at the same time.
As far as cradles go, I also found one on Ebay that clips to the AC vents (also came with a windshield mount) that charges the MDA while holding in place, and also has a place to plug in the cable that charges the GPS reciever.
But the GPS reciever lasts about 20 hours on a full charge, so I rarely ever have to recharge it.

Does your omapclock program link work? It keeps giving me an error message when I click the .exe. Also is this the one that will stay overclocked until it sleeps and then reverts back to normal and vice versa?

Finally thinkin of doing it.

I'm having trouble with the link too. Also-will this work with the ROM version you get out the box?

I have read almost every page in this post. I love my MDA. I am scared to update ROMs and such. I bought tweaks2k2 thinking I could do a few things. The main thing I want to do is stop that annoying blue blinking led when bluetooth is on. Is this possible? I seen it on tweaks2k2 but it wasnt for the mda. I leave my bluetooth on and when I sleep, it gets a bit annoying. I am sure it doesnt take much battery. If there is a registry hack to do this, please let me know. Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you mean. There are 2 things you could mean: (a) FLASHing your phone ROM which would completely rebuilt your phone & OS from the ground up or (b) hard-reset which will remove any/all customizations you made to a standard ROM image you built the phone up from (see a).

NO SBP backup wont restore without and OS installed. If your phone gets to that state, you want to run it in boot loader mode and then you can flash it again from your PC and get an OS back on it. To boot into bootloader mode you hold the voice record button down while resetting the device. Then you plug it into your PC and you can then flash it.

SBP backup will restore if you dont have SBP backup installed but thats about it.

You will.l want to run an app called lokiwiz. This will sim unlock your phone, which will allow you to use other providers. If you are going to sim un,lock your phone you have to do it BEFORE you flash the rom with a rom upgrade. That is the only way it will work.

so did flashing the rom to x's rom packages do the sim unlock? cause if not... then... DANGIT ALL! how do i go about fixing it to sim unlock now?

no that just CID unolocks it, you have to SIM unlock it. You will need to flash back tot he OEM TMO ROM, then sim unlock it, then reflash with xelencin's ROM.

I updated to 2.21 and everything is working great but the tmobile gprs. I have the 29.99 internet plan and it gives me a error when it tries to connect stating this number could not be found on this modem or something. can someone tell me how to configure gprs with the 2.21 update?

I get that once and a while. Your gprs should still bwe working. Does it say that when you are trying to access a website, and then not connect you to the website after hitting dismiss?

and when i tap dismiss nothing happens just stays on the home page and i get the two arrows and x mark by the gprs sign at the top. I configured with this from the tmobile wireless configurator:

i called tmobile and they tweaked my account with something and it worked but it would only go to locating and then say the site could not be found because the connection was lost but then I changed the proxy thing thanks to liamtoh1 and it works. thanks to everyone but I seriously am thinking of switching back to 2.17 because 2.21 had some glitches.

I've done it. What are your specific questions? I had to go through this to get the widcomm stack working for my Nokia under XP sp2 (the friggin sp2 'built in' bluetooth crap).

I couldn't tell you step-by-step but I can probably help you with questions.

Main question:how to sync MDA via BT

Can't establish any connection with activesync via BT(other profiles,like file transfer between MDA and PC works fine).Tried different ports and other settings,no luck so far.

Here you again bro, the guinea pig. What would we do without you . Aren't you happy with all u got bro . WA2, PB, WA, Skins, TrayLauncher, weather, I even think you got Spb Plus, and Diary, what will make you at ease bro.

I do like the screenguard for my wife's iPaq that does not come with a lock.

On another note: Opera is over and done! June 1st got msg. Is there another beta?

MADDOGX007 still can't get online as MadDog.. HOFO is great but communication from them

Man away for a while and Jonazen is right, posts move faster then a speeding train.

I went to site and I clicked on link and noticed Omapclock.zip file. Is there an issue after u unzip it? U should just place OmapClock.exe on your device. That's it bro.

yes this is the one that changes clock and reverts back to normal. Just don't go over 260Mhz u may lock up, I locked up at 300Mhz, hehehehe, but on soft reset it's back to our old and useful 180Mhz.

First of all if you are on the $29.99 internet plan you shouldn't need to go through the proxy server. That is only going to limit you and slow you down.

If you already have a "T-Mobile GPRS" setting, you shouldn't need to create a new "modem" connection under that, it's probably already there.

On the "Connections" page hit the advanced tab on the bottom.
Hit select networks
How many are in the drop down box? I only have three there, T-Mobile GPRS, My ISP, and My Work.
If you select "T-Mobile GPRS" and click "Edit...", you should have one connection there, "T-Mobile GPRS". The "select a modem:" box should say "Cellular Line (GPRS)". On the next screen, the access point should be internet2.voicestream.com or wap.voicestream.com. You don't need to enter any proxy settings.

Hey guys.. wow.. 230 pages.. took me a while to get through them all! j/k
anyway.. i tried a few of the registry hacks and some worked, but some didnt. I still get the message pop up after a text message is sent. also and most importantly, i still get the edge disconnect when closing any other app with the hangup button. I did the remove "flags2" dword thing.. didnt seem to work. everytime i get a call and hang up or get a text and exit the screen, it ends my data sesson. thanks for any help. bill.

yes this is the one that changes clock and reverts back to normal. Just don't go over 260Mhz u may lock up, I locked up at 300Mhz, hehehehe, but on soft reset it's back to our old and useful 180Mhz.

No I did figure it out after I unzipped it, but the problem I am having is that once I overclock to 240mhz and the device goes to sleep, it reverts back to the normal clock speed and stays at that. It does not go back to the overclocked speed as you described. Is this correct or should it be doing something different?

Same thing here bro. I think you, Jonazen, and I drained ourselves out with the MDA. We did more than most people will ever do in a lifetime with this device. Like you I got to get on with other things in life, so I too have spent less time. I feel our presence changing here. Sad, but like I said to Jon, nothing is for ever. I too check back daily if possible, but keep the MDA in holster most of the time. As a matter of fact you try more than I care to anymore. I got what I need on this device, and now need to start using it for wht it was intended for, daily usage, not daily configuration.

On another note. I did go to that site you mentioned, the one you tried, and downloaded the screenGuard for my wife's iPaq, which unlike the MDA does not come with a lock. You had a bad experience with their product, well Im having a lousy experience with their ScreenGuard product. It does the job great, too easy, but getting it to unlock is a nightmare!! The only way to unlock it is to soft reset? The instructions s u c s... too... They say to map the ScreenGuard to a button, so I tried her message button, oh it works nicely, you press the button and it locks the system, but for the life of me, how do you unlock it is a mystery to me..

The program comes with two icons, one to lock, the other to configure.

First they show an illustration like this.. Unlock Key1: [0xC1] Key 2: [ ]. No idea what this means to me Key 1 0xC1?

Their pathetic instructions say "Set focus on Key 1, or Key 2, then press hardware button. What the heck is the hardware button they are talking about? I mapped message button to lock it, but then by it's own idea, once locked all the buttons are dissabled? So you can't use the same mapped button to unlock it??

To unlock screen and buttons, press Key 1, then within 1.5 sec, key 2. Man so confusing , makes any sense to u?? Don't try this at home with MDA bro, cause it may conflict with default lock.

I think I will have to remove it.

Update: ScreenGuard actually works nice. I went to their site and forum, only to find same questions as above. I believe their instructions are pathetic . You actually place your cursor in the box > [0xC1] which is the 1st button for contacts on the iPaq (Key 1), while in this box if you click on any other button, it changes the code. Key 2 hs no code, so if you place the curson in that boxl, and press another button or same, it changes that to the code of the button. Then wht they say works. You can lock it with the mapped button, and unlock it by pressing the combination, or same button twice if you set it up that way.. Oh well...

Maybe my explation ws not very clear. It always reverts back to 180Mhz after sleep, or after reset, after just about anything. It seems that OmapClock is good if you use just before launching some application, like a game. I mean imagine if you set i at 280Mhz, and it locked it at that speed. Wht if system froze, like it does at 300Mhz. Everytime you would reset, it would shut down again, and again.. So it serves a good purposes to revert back to 180Mhz on sleep, or reset. I only use it now just before loading something I want to run a little faster, but I have not been terribly impressed with it any how.

When ROM upgrading, programs like Word, Excel, Outlook are kept intact or do we need to reinstall them? If we have to reinstall, do they come, for instance, in the T-Mobile MDA original box?

Also, did anybody here managed to buy T-Mobile MDA in a T-Mobile Store commiting with service plan a year long plan or shorter?

Word, Excel, and Outlook are included in the ROMS, so you don't need to re-install them.

How does memmaid tell it to start up after it awakens from "sleep-mode"? I'll buy memmaid now if it can do that! I have SK Tools and figured they did pretty much the same thing. What are the differences?

You can set memmaid to run apps on events. You can set it to see wakeup as an event and run omap upon awakening.

I got the clock to go to 240MHZ after a soft reset but it still reverts to 180 after it "wakes-up". I followed the instructions. Anybody else have this problem?

Yeah HOFO simply will not email me at my new email, so had to go bck to old email, and ok. weird.. Trying to get my OmapClock using the -clock 252 to work, but not having any luck with it. It seems I create a shortcut to my windows\startup, but when I got to change properties, and add -clock 252, it looses icon, and does not function. But when I remove -clock 252 it works good. Weird..

On on 2.24, is it any better. And Im still not sure how to add the ext rom features. I thought I3onk was into getting that done.. hehe

I fixed the Memmaid issue but recently have been having another problem and I'm curious if others have too. My SD card ocassionally dissapears and I can't access anyhting on it until I push it out and in again, sometimes more than once, so the phone recognizes it again. Any suggestions?

I had this problem with my Ipaq 6315 some times, I have it with the MDA once in a while, weird, but I do not believe there is a solution, there was none with Ipaq. You just got to reset, or pull the card out and back in again. It is rare, but it happens, to me and u at least.

Plus you get Commander included in the 2.17, and 2.21 Also the Wi-Fi changes and it includes other features, like push mail, coming soon to TMO, etc.

You know what If was one of the first to use OmapClock here on this thread and offerd it on my ftp site, but never used it at startup with -clock 264 {or whatever option you're using} or with MemMaid. But got it working as shortcut on startup and am now trying it with MemMaid for wake up. I will report my results.

Update: So far ur right. I included the argument with MemMaid and when it woke up it reverted back to 180Mhz? I am still checking into this..

Update update: Well a couple of quick observations. If I use the suspend mode in MemMaid (bottom left corner), Mhz stays the same on wake up that I setup (-clock 264Mhz). However, if I use the on/off power button above on device, which seems like what the suspend feature does, it reverts back to 180Mhz.. Weird, cause either way, you have to use the on/off (top device) to turn it back on? I added the suspend icon on my today screen using my Spb Plus tabs, and it works fine that way, so may have to turn device on/off using the suspend icon on today screen instead of using the top on/off. Weird.

I have yet to see a 4gb miniSD card available yet, the largest is 2gb if I am not mistaken.

As far as I've been able to figure out, there's nothing on the hardware keyboard. But the onscreen keyboard has a control key.

Also, you can highlight the text, hold with the stylus until the pop-up menu comes up, then select copy or cut. Then go to wherever you want to paste the selection, hold with the stylus, and select paste.

If you're trying to do a copy and paste with Total Commander, you can also copy or move using the hold-stylus method, but it then has a dialogue box that pops up asking you where you want to copy or move the selection to. I don't like how that works. Instead, when I hold with the stylus, rather than select copy or move, I select "copy to clipboard" and then navigate to where I want to paste it. This is only when I'm using TC.

xscale is the type of processor. arm is the kind of file format you can use on the MDA to install aps. I believe the CPU on the MDA is an xscale CPU.

Weird problem. When I attach my MDA to the USB cord attached to my computer, an alarm sound goes off (the same one that wakes me up in the morning) but no notification or pop-up window comes to the phone. I checked my calender on the computer and there is nothing scheduled at all. What the heck is going on. It goes off when attached to the USB cable every 5 minutes?

Check your sounds and notifications. You might have something set to activesync: begin sync. when you are connected to the usb cable and sync'g, it syncs every view minutes, so the alarm will go off each time. More than likely that is your problem.

I just bought a 2GB, would have loved to get a 4. Sorry does not exist on miniSD. If it did I beliveve MDA would have no issue with it. Considering I have seen no retailer carry more than 512 MB for miniSD, im not sure u will see 4GB any time soon. U can only get 2GB online like eBay. Not bad though when u consider I payd 64 bucks for a Scandisk incl shipping from company i have bought from in the past. Soon to arrive. Good luck. But if u see a 4GB pls let us know.

No it is not, the CPU is a Texas Instruments OMAP 850. The mentioned tool will not work. That's no problem though, OmapClock does a perfect job, especially combined with Smartskey.

Without any downloads no. but if you download this, you can toggle you BT on and off making it easy for mp3 listening and movie watching. there is no need to install it. just unzip it to where you want and clcik bttoggle and away you go.

We talked about this a lot because the utility that I3onk linked u too, also works for BT and MSVoice Command with those BT headsets that don't cooperate with MSVC. There is no way of hearing music or game sounds viar MDA BT, without the BTSoundOn utniltiy. Weird! Why they chose to make it that way, when you consider that on my older WM2003 TMO iPaq 6315, there is a feature in BT settings to enable sound from device on BT. But in WM5 they chose not to support that, which is very weird in indeedo.

But BTSoundOn works beautifuly with sound and game sounds over BT. I personally like to use it for games in a private situation. You look busy while playing around. Of course realize that on MP3 sounds you will be getting crappy sound over BT cause it's no A2DP. A2DP works with BT stereo headsets. Possibly in some future, future version from TMO, they may support A2DP (Streaming Stereo) in new version of ROM over BT Stereo Headphones. In meantime you can use the Tornado cab file that installs A2DP on your MDA. I tried this out with the BT Motoralla stereo headset, and sound quality was poor at best, but some guy at XDA told me it was the Motorala set with the Tornado. This is still in debate cause Im not going to buy another set, to return, just to try it out again, or maybe I will in future.

If you get tcpmp player you can lay just about any file type. AVI, mpeg, mpeg4, wmv, and many more. As far as getting the movies, thats up to you and ytour concience. limewire is not a bad place to pick up a movie. You can always get Pocket DVD Wizard or other software like that. Then you can transfer any dvd's you have at home now into avi format and away you go.

My MDA will lock up occassionally and the screen won't come on when I hit the power button. The problem is if it locks up during the night, my alarm won't sound and wake me up. Has anyone else had this problem? Also, it seems to take a while to "get going" when it comes out of sleep mode. Help...

Im not going to give you an easy answer, cause Im not sure there is an easy answer. I used to get something similar to this, but have been through so many different confugurations of my software, and hard resets, that Im not sure if I took care of it without noticing. I have not, knock on wood, seen this again.

PC/PPC intermittent problems are a pain in the A S S! Like an electrical issue on your vehicle's that comes and goes. I would rather see a consistent problem. Depending on how serious this is, I would restore my last complete backup. Sometimes this solves issues, cause something is going on with ur device and it could be some intermittent resident software issue. If that does not help, and you get same issue, I would go back to a safe restore, if ur using Spb Backup, and have done backups in some stages, then go bck to a restore when you had a minimal installion, test it out for a day or two. If the issue goes away, u had a software conflict. The process of elimination is the only way to resolve a computer lockup, or hardware issue. I don't think it's hardware.

I will give you an example. I have a backup of just my utilities, hacks, and device configurations. Before installing anything like Spb Pocket Plus, Diary, calender, etc. If i had ur issue, I would go backt and restore this stage backup, and test device with alarm. If all goes well, I would start re installing one piece of software and test again. This may take a few days, or a week, but it may resolve your issue. At least you did not have to hard boot and reload everything. Once I got all my software loaded again, and tested, make a nother backup of entire system. Good Luck Bro.

When I fiest used TCPMP I was soooo impressed, that I removed windows Media from my today screen. TCPMP has everything you can imagine except the kitchen sink. It will load just about any type of extension, and do an excellent job. I was using PocketTV, but had to get another free key one day, a bit of a hassle, tried loading the Mpeg movie with TCPMP, no issues, and no key required. So I also stopped using PocketTV too.

I was looking around at Microsoft's MSDN and found a post for a alternative to GOOGLE GLM. I have been using it for a few days now and it seems to be pretty good. Its about as slow as the GOOGLE GLM. The nice thing is that JAVA isnt needed for it. It also dislpays road map (kinda like local.live.com) you can also apply start and stop desination push pins and then get driving directions from there. I believe that it uses a lot of GPRS kb so anyone that is not on an unlimited data plan might get with with high gprs bandwidth charges. Other features include GPS interface and 'Locate Me' feature that uses either GPS or WiFi (using the ip address..side note: i havent found that it works while using GPRS however it does with WiFi).

This isnt a finished product but its worth checking out.

just finished messing with it and found that you can't get aerial maps of every place.. just popular destinations and landmarks... but I bet somene is working on updating the maps that's involved with that program.... reminds me of that will smith movie ENEMY OF THE STATE....

another funny thing I'm at the tmo store paying my bill and one of the new salesperson there just got an mda and was playing with it like he was playing the game operation all delicate and stuff... so I showed him my phone w/sbp pocket plus running in one of the extended themes and he's like whoaaaa.... how you do that... I had to say go online bro and happy hunting.... the people at the tmo store still are kinda behind in va I think... cause I told them I had a 2gig minisd card and they looked at me like I just said I got a pot of gold from under the rainbow.....

when did they start charging for wisbar, and opera trippin with the 25bucks for the browser...

also found a cool app on www.freewareppc.com
for seeing the actual radar for the us based on the national weather service ( I had the link but if you go there its right on the front page as new software)..

One of the developers, Jason Fuller, is currently working on an update for this software to correct some issues with the GPS/WiFi connectivity (locator service)... This app would kill google's glm if there were versions for other platforms like Symbian (nokia) and Palm OS..

Yeah I didnt read the specs before buying it. I am really upset about this. I assumed that it would run on the MDA. I dont know if Handango has a refund policy for something like this. I doubt it. I think I am *** out $30. Damn this sux. Live and learn I guess.

I have a problem. While syncing on a computer I usually dont use, it( the computer) just shut off. Now my MDA is stuck on the red, green, blue screen and I cant perform a hard or soft reset. I took the battery out for about an hour put it back in, same thing. Can anyone help?

Oh and I was running the 2.21 rom and recently updated to 2.24. I have been running 2.24 a couple of days now and had no previous problems. The computer I was syncing on shuts off like this at least once a day.

hold down the comm manager button and the voice record button at the same time and push the little reset button. Do not release the two buttons until the device resets and you see text asking if you want to restore to factory defaults. Then hit the green phone button. This will hard reset your phone.

You need to have that PC scanned for viri as soon as possible too. If it comes up clean, check to make sure the ram is seated properly and that the power supply is ok.

its not just va bro, the same happens here too. i see a lot of people now with mdas and other ppcs for that matter but when folks see mine they are like how in the hell did you do that? movies on a phone? 2gb card? each conversation i seem to have with someone with a mda is definitely at least 15 minutes long lol. and especially when I am not in work clothes, people look at me like how do you know all this stuff.....i just gotta laugh, cant judge the book by the cover....

LOL, yeah I think thats the majority in T-mobile stores period. I have given at least 3 MDA tutorial sessions to T-mo employees since February. And I dont know how many for the SK....lol, and I didnt even get paid to be their professor. And now that the MDA is an approved business tool at work, I can see me heading the training course for new users. LOL.

Still no luck. The screen just cuts off and when I push any buttons, the red green blue screen comes back on. Its not looking good. I left my battery out of the phone all night and still no luck.

Wow that sucks man. I hope you didnt brick your phone. You shouldnt have though. That is the boot loader screen. You should be able to reflash it with the 2.24 ROM if you want through active sync. The hard reset I told you about really should have worked though.

OK I have to say, I am now a Firefox user forever. I love this browser. This is the first tiem I have ever tried it out. Any browser that lets me open an entire folder of links at once in seperate windows rox. I can now open all the forum pages and websites I check daily with two clicks and close them one at a time with one click. Has slimbrowser beat by miles. Now to get my parents to switch to firefox hehe. I love this thing weeee!!!!!!!

This is exactly what I ended up doing. at first my phone didnt recognize the usb connection, but after leaving the battery out all night then putting it back in it did. So I reflashed the 2.24 ROM and it worked.

Yes it is total BS. If you look at the link at the bottom of the page for the 2G minisd. Enlarge the pic of the 2g and at the bottom the card says 2GB. Now if you enlarge the pic of the 4G the place where the 2GB used to be seams to be scratched out or something. This guy must not be a pro at photoshop. I am sure the maker of the 4GB would put the 4GB label on the bottom of the card as they did with the 2GB card.

4GB minisd cards DO NOT EXHIST right now. Dont believe that BS site. You buy it, for $49? WTF is that, 2GB in real life is about $60 or so, probably closer to $80 actually. That is a fraudulant site buddy, I would delete it from my PC and forget it was ever there.

I have the choice of purchasing a 2GB (unknown speed) or a 1GB 150X for about the same price. Will the faster speed make any significant difference with the 'slow' processor in the MDA?

I just got my MDA this week from LetsTalk.com and got it with a 1yr commitment($39mnth - 600min & free N/WKND) and NO data plan /etc... I was able to connect to our home 'hotspot' without any registry hacks or rom changes. Well, my son helped a little by turning SSID back on our router network. But it works and I'm getting download speeds close to what I get to my laptop. Hope to test it on an open hotspot soon to see if I can use this while on vacation. It still seems slow to work with, but I'm waiting a little before I try some of the changes to rev this up. I'm also looking for a way to get JAVA on it w/o voiding warranty or paying for it. Reading the screen is a little hard on these old eyes even after dimming backlight a notch and increasing font size a level. I've also been trying to read as many posts here as possible but 200+ pages in this thread and the FAQ thread is rather lengthy, somewhat technical, and makes my eyes hurt too. Thanks for all the technical expertise donated on this site.

I don't think it will make a significant difference. If you install programs that have today plugins, I would highly recommend installing them in the main device storage and not storage card, regardless of the storage card speed. It sometimes takes the MDA a couple of seconds to register the card when you come out of sleep mode, causing problems with any today programs installed on it. If you think you'll need 2GB, don't buy a 1GB.

There is instructions on how to do this in the MDA FAQ sticky. However, I tried and gave up in the first 5 minutes. It seemed too complicated of a process to me. Unlocking your phone and flashing a custom or beta ROM will not void your warranty as long as you can restore it to it's original state. However, you do take the chance of voiding your warranty if you cannot restore it. The 2.24 ROM has the java midlet installed, and is what I use. However, patience is a virtue of course, and T-Mobile might be releasing an official update soon which includes Java. If you have patience, and aren't very technical when it comes to upgrading firmwares on equipment, I'd say wait it out. Otherwise, you should find everything you need in this forum. I recommend using LokiWiz to unlock your phone before flashing and use the T-Mobile Test 2.24 ROM.

well, I droped my phone tody an brok the bettery cover. Thank the gods for insurance. my new phone will be at my dor on tuesday and only cost me $110 deductable. sweet. now I have to flah this back to eom tmo rom and then flash the new one with 2.21 lol thank the gods for sbp backup

I took a leap this morning and ordered one. Received order confirmation via e-mail automatically with UPS tracking number. Checked UPS and found tracking information for tracking number supplied. Sent one e-mail question on shipping, received response within 1 hour, sent another question and again, received a response within one hour.
Now the big questions are, will it show up and will it work (how well) in the MDA?!

Exrended battery
I googled and found this site. It has the best description. You can probably find a better price, if you look hard enough. The multiple pictures show the extended cover. Suppose to last longer, but I'm sure it's probably heavier too. Just thought, if the cover was all that was broken - This would be an easy fix which would also give you more time between recharging. NOT to mention saving you all the rom changing times and hassle.

I found mine didn't work with the protector on because a piece of dust or fragment was stuck under the screen protector causing it to continuously push down on the screen. Just clean it very well and reapply making sure there are zero bubbles.

I just tried transfering one of my notes from my calls to my PC and opening it. I opened it with notepad and word. I get alot of machine code mixed in with the note, but I can see the notes I made. Wish I knew what to tell you.

Alright... so I'm going to sound like a total n00b... I know. Anyway, I've been trying to figure out how to put certain sounds on my phone that I could use for texts... because let's face it, the ones it came with... suck. And I know in past threads people have posted to go to the "Windows" folder and put it there in .wav format. BUT the stupid problem is... there is no "Windows" folder on my phone. No "Windows" folder which in past threads I was told to go to. Where do I go?

Also... I'm storing ringtones on my Storage Card along with songs for Windows Media Player. Should I organize this better? If so how? :/

OK this is for the last two posters. Here is what you need to do to se your windows folder.

When activesync lets you explore the device, hit explore. On the top of the explorer window go to tool>folder options>view, select show hidden files and folders. Then you should be able to see the windows folder.

You can then drop you wav files into the windows fodler and you will be able to use them for message tones. There is also a rings folder if you want to put y our mp3's on the device for ringtones. I don't know what other formats you can use for ringtones, I use mp3's myself and always have.

Sometimes when I do a soft reset, I get the following message - "spbtimenotify.exe cannot load". I am on the 2.21 Rom and have SPB Time on the SD. Anyone know why?

I have mr. clean 2.24 rom and having a problem installing ms voice command. I have both ms Voice Command 2003.exe and ms Voice Command v1.5.exe. While I was installing VC2003 to mda, somehow it didn't completed the installation and had to softset. Ever since, I've had problem installing either version of voice command. I have spb pocket plus, pocket breeze,fizz weather2, memmaid, spb backup, photo contactspro, ewallet, and etc. Does any of these programs complicate with voice command to get properly installed?
I also try to browse IE with t-zone plan and get "The page cannot be displayed or downloaded because, the connection was lost. check the connection and try again." However, the connection icon "E" shows as connected. I set up with wap.voicestream.com and it connects to WAP Network.
Please advice. Thanks in advance.

Its because you have SBP time installed on your SD. Try Uninstalling it, then reinstalling it to your device. That should fix the problem.

I am not sure wy your voicecommaned doesnt work. I havent personally used that app but I know MadDog does. He has been MIA for a few weeks now.

As far as your internet not working. I have heard that TMO is actually blocking phones like ours from using wap protocol to get around the internet package. Try posting something about it in the MDA/SDA forum, you may have better luck there.

i actually have spbtime installed on my sd and it works flawlessly, in fact all of my spb products with the exception of pocket plus are on my sd. just my .02, might be a corrupt install?

Maybe he needs to just get a fresh copy of sbp time and reinstall it then. I dont use that app, I just know some apps dont work from the sd card. I actually have pocket plus installed on my SD and it works great. You might have a corrupt install. I would suggest the same to you. Get a fresh copy and install that.

Your connection will automatically switch between the gprs and edge network when it gets in range of one or the other. At elast that is how I think it works. I heard that somewhere. Dont have Edge by my house that I know of, so I dont know.

Actually, any default settings on the phone for internet access should work just as they were designed too. You shouldnt have to change anything to get it workign right. The fact that you changes it to try and get it working before you got the net package may cause a bit of a problem. I will check my settings and get back to you with how my settings are set. That should get you to where you want to go.

T-mobile rep (3rd tier) tells me that the 1st tier salesperson got it wrong and there is not edge in my area. How can I tell when it will go into effect? He said his latest figures were from Oct 05. (latest?). First time T-mobile customer service has ever dissapointed me.

You can use your own message tones by making them .wav files and placing them in the windows directory. Unfortunatly, you can only have 1 message tone. You can not have individual messgae tones for each person. This is how it is setup.

Now that being said, there is an app out there called, MortRing. This app will let you set individual tones for anyone you want.

If you want to DL it. Its a great app and works fantastically. You can set seperate tones for rings, sms and mms messages, for each person. Unfortunatly, WM5 does NOT allow for anythign other than .wav files to be used as message tones. This sucks because .wav files are failry large, and eat up valuable memory space.

Try setting it up to fetch 999k of your emails, not the whole email.

As far as .wav ringtones, you can open them up in an audio editor app & save space by furthur compressing it (mono instead stereo etc...)

Been travelling quite a bit in the last week with lousy access.
Here is the result of my leap.
Total crapola. Card was not AData. Some manufacturer in Singapore.
Everything seemed legit until I tried to write more than 1 Gb to the card. It thinks it's 4 Gb but probably only has 1Gb worth of real memory.
1st hand information for everyone. Those guys are total crap, bunk, choose your negative description. Also no response from them on my inquireies since the purchase and they removed my less than complimentary review of thier less than satisfying product.
As for being a sucker, that's your opinion and I will consider the source!

Hard way to learn a lesson but its all good man. Now the other people out there know better than to buy this product. Sorry to hear that it didnt work out for you. Get yourself a 2G card. They really do exhist, and they work great

please help i search around and havn't found the answer, i got the mda on wed and i order the total data plan on the same day and till today i still can't surf the web unless i sync with my pc using my dsl line, i havn't gotten the new rom because i don't want to void my warranty please is there any other way? it shows that i'm connected to t-mobile GPRS but the pages never load and i get a pop up showing problem with my connection, i called t-mobile today and they just told me to do a hard reset which i did and still no help anyways thanks in advance

If you performed a Hard Reset after Tmobile activated your total internet package then you should be good to go. If not then either Tmobile didn't activate your plan yet, or you may have some other unknown problem.
Try the settings on the first page of the FAQ to try and connect.

In the tool bar at the top of this page there is a link to the Search function. click on that and type in something like "MDA Proxy T-Zones internet settings" or any combination thereof and it will shorten your two day search to about 30 seconds.

Hi,

I recently bought Microsoft Streets & Trips 2006 with USB GPS Receiver. I thought of using it with my laptop. I just bought MDA and looking for a good GPS receiver.

Can I use USB GPS Device with MDA using USB Type A F to Mini B (5 Pin) M Adapter Amazon Link for Reference Only ?

I know I can use a bluetooth gps receiver as well which can be used in wireless mode but just wanted to use the existing one instead of purchasing a new device.

Well if its not a PPC app then you may not be able to run it, but shouldnt in theory be able to install it either. When installing an app, it asks you if you want to install it to your device or your storage card (providing you have a minisd card). You then install it and you should be able to access it from your start menu under the programs tab. Maybe you can give me a little more information. What app are you trying to install? Where did you install it to? (Storage card or device). Was it a smartphone app or a PPC app?

im trying to get this registry mechanic on here its called registry wizard so i can access my wifi and tweak my phone a little... but it wont install since its in cab file and not .exe file... im installing to my device cause i dont have a mini sd yet... its for a ppc i think here is where i got it from

ok you want to put the cab file on your phone. then click on the cab file from your file explorer on your phone. That will install it.

ok here is the version I used for my MDA. make sure you install the openetcf first. that's the component you are missing to make registry wizard work. after installing that, install registry wizard. you should be good to go then.

I remember having that problem once. I honestly can't remember why or how I fixed it. I use wisbar now, so I don't even ee the reg today screen bar.

yes it is. Its really nice. lots of options and themes. you can also set each button on the top bar to run app on a tap and a tap and hold.

My mda was losing internet signal several times today. A big popup message would come up and mention that my settings might not be correct. I have the bb plan with my mda. Am I missing anything?

Mine occasionally does the same thing....as long as your net works it is not a problem just more of an annoyance. I belive it is because the connection is not "always on" and will shut off. The pop up is rare for me since my pop mail setting is to check every 10 minutes.

Edit: and yes I have the mda with the bb plan as well.

I need a little help. My phone ring volume (mda) just lowered. I put it all the way up and its not as loud as it use to be. I can bearly hear when it rings now. Can anyway help me and let me know why it lowered and how i can fix it please!

I'm surfing at GPRS speeds on my MDA and tried the 29.99 plan for a while to see if the EDGE speeds worth the upgrade. I noticed almost zero difference. I cancelled after 2 days. Is that right?

Yes that is right, the only addition for that plan is the use of Tmo's hotspots...thats it.

I dont want to sound like a newfool but... I'm interested in getting an MDA and upgrading my sidekick prepaid plan to a post-paid plan. I have two questions actually... Can i use my own custom gateway to use data like how on a normal phone you would get free wireless internet by using a proxy. And secondly, can i use a blackberry plan with an MDA because i want that 29.99 blackberry plan. It has internet just like the internet-only plan. ANd on a sidenote, can i use my own custom gateway with the MDA on prepaid plan??? Thanks in advance but im new to T-Mobile and the MDA itself

I've got the 2.99 T-zones and am able to get to the internet off of it. I'd be willing to pay for 29.99 Internet if I saw a speed increase but I didn't. Am I getting EDGE off of the 2.99 plan now?
