It certainly can be a good source if you already know what you're looking for and can search it.

To be sure, the MDA FAQ will provide a newb with a LOT of information. check it out at Howard Forum MDA FAQ

There's also a wiki page at wiki howard forums MDA

There isn't going to be an easy answer about setting up an MDA. It really depends on what you want it to do. Some people are really interested in text messaging, others in email, others in hacking. Start by defining what you want to be able to do with your little computer.

Mail, messages, internet, maps, gps, games, media player, voice recognition, data syncing, calendars, photos, etc.

If you are interested in email and web access (aside from wifi), the minimum plan you will need from tmobile is "tmobile web." It's cheap and slow, but it will get you there. If you want messaging you have the option of buying a messaging plan from tmobile, paying by the message, or using software that will send messages via the internet, bypassing the tmobile message service. From what I've been able to find there are a few choices that work consistently for this, but neither is free. Not too terribly expensive, either.

Start with basic stuff, then as you get used to working with the MDA, consider adding to it for more features.

Look its easier to read and ask for help than to criticize mate ......

I don't think most peole check this thread anymore. A lot of the posts are useless & a lot of the questions have been asked numerous times. That's why its almost 300 pages now!

Very good poiunt maybe need to cut and paste the essentials into 1 big sticky

Posted by: UncleDannie

I agree wholeheartedly. I have kept up with the thread since inception, but I see the same questions asked and answered several times now. Newbies don't want to wade through 300 pages to look for posts, nor do most of them understand the concept of searching posts for their answers.

Has anyone seen an updated version of the free web for t-mobile on the MDA. It seems when there system went down a few weeks back all was killed ...

Posted by: ilvla2

I haven't Pureskillzzz, the cheapest I am able to get while still being able to do all the good stuff was to switch to the Blackberry Unlimited.

Well thanks for replying . Bur since they updated the system after a bogus crash the hack on using the t-zones port to give free internet has stopped working.

Posted by: ilvla2

No prob, sorry I couldn't help any more! I will keep looking, and if I find something I'll let you know, though I think the hacks like that are closed off for good.

okies ... But I know there will always be a hack .. I figured that 1 out when I saw t-zones on the MDA was free with certain features. So I am trying to exploit it again.

Posted by: ilvla2

If you can get it to work, let me know, I'm up for saving 20 bucks!

Not A problem .. Just seem a little on the lazy side of redoing all the edits to my MDA. But it seems I have no choice.

I am glad this is still here and active. Thanks to everyone for all the hard work and fantastic tips

Posted by: Cinderz

All you need to do is ask questions and use wikipedia. Most everything is step by step and not hard to learn. Just make sure you always back up your stuff.

Well for the rest of us there is still HOWARD FORUMS....

Posted by: i3onk

WOW! I love the fact that this thread is still active. I don't think I haveposted here in almost a year lol. Glad I don't have to read the almost 300 pages to get my MDA up and running the way I want lol.

Ao, what do you guys think about the Wing that is supposed to be released aroung August? Doesn't look too bad. I rather have the keyboard setup like the MDA. I prefer individual keys instead of them all being joined together. It has more memory, but not a lot more.

Since my MDA is still in great shape, I may just see if I can toss Mobile 6 on this thing ans save the money.

Posted by: ilvla2

I'm not even considering the Wing, while it looks nice it doesn't have 3G, and when I spend the money to replace my MDA I'm going to get a 3G enabled PDA. To me, it'd be like spending a lot of money on a high end TV without HD, it just doesn't make sense to do that anymore.

This is what confuses me!... I've already heard that May 21st and 22nd as release dates for the Wing, but people still mention dates in August... which is it gonna be !!!??? Am I really gonna have to wait till tomorrow or tuesday to find out for myself!?

Posted by: PURESKILLZZZ

hmmmmm .. The wing isnt saying much yet ,,,, Maybe when the price drops it will be a better phone unless t-mobile plans to give it to me for free...

Posted by: UmmmmmmmYes

Question on the JogBar by 1800Message.com. This is the one without the reg edit. Is there anyone way to disable to volume control while in a call? Im sure this has been answered before but every search ive done shows threads with no answers.. If there isnt a way, is there a way with the reg edit method? I dont know why tmobile didnt make this an option, the volume constantly goes down while in call..Ive even changed the settings in every possible way...

any body know how to get window mobile 6 on the mda and 3g software

Posted by: mmeyer4663

Not sure what you mean by 3g.
One of many options for WM6 would be on XDA Developers. Look for Xplore 1.1.
I have been running it successfully for a couple of days now.

The MDA is quadband GSM only and does not have the capability of 3G. The newer T-Mobile Wing also does not have 3G implementation.

3g is not software that you can just install, it is hardware and also network dependent.

CAUTION:When you perform a hard reset, your device returns to its default out-of-the-box settings, and all information and third-party applications are lost. Only perform a hard reset when you want to clear all settings, programs, and data.
To hard reset the device, perform the following steps:

1. Tap Start.

2. Tap Settings.

3. Tap the System tab.

4. Tap the Clear Storage icon.

5. Type the indicated word or numbers, and tap Yes. The device resets and powers on.

I don't think you really need to reload windows. To get it unlocked, normally most phone companies will do it for you after the contract has expired. You can call them and tell them that you are leaving the country on a business trip, and you need your phone unlocked to use a foreign sim while away. T-mobile did it for me, no questions asked with my V600 maybe 2 years back. Hope this helps.

Yeah you are correct . But a lot of people don't want to wait on the phone company .. There is a bit of gratification when you do something yourself.

really for the poster that you quoted above, but you don't have to wait until your contract is up to request a SIM subsidy unlock code. tmobile will do it for free as long as youve been a customer at least 90 days or more, and you can only submit one unlock request per line, per 90 days.

and here's a free, off-topic tip from yours truly (CSR II PDA), for all of our jet-setting, globe-trotting, or otherwise travel-happy T-Mobile customers: DO NOT call me from the airport requesting the unlock code for your phone 2 hours before your flight is scheduled to leave for some godforsaken 3rd world principality where you will be stuck for the next 6 weeks without internet access...

LOL ....... Next time I will call you 2 1/2 hours before my flight .. Is that enough time for you ... ROFLMAO
