I have a problem with PocketOutlook on my MDA. I have Gmail all set up but each time it connects it makes the previous messages in my inbox disappear. I have been looking for a long time for some setting, but have come up with nothing. Any Help?

PLEASE HELPlc

omg... im about to rip out my hair, i just got off the phone with t-mobile after being transfered to 6 different places, each person was an idiot, some guy told me i have to pay monthly to access wifi at my house. so here is the problem. (there are 2)

i set up my email in the email msgs thing and all of a sudden its connecting via gprs to access email. i don't have any gprs service set up, so am i getting charged for the download of email, or does it go through text msg charges??? and how do i set up the email so it accesses via wi-fi, when available.

part 2. i can't get it to connect to my router, im using a netgear, and i can't get it to load pages, although it finds it perfectly, the sda was able to connect w/o a problem.

I thought the SKII was $479 when it first came out. Then it was $400. Hell t juicy SKIIs are Still $399. So what would you say about the price of the SK vs the price of the MDA. I mean the MDA does have WiFi and EDGE. And a Mini SD card, MP3, Video. I mean the list goes on. Sure I love my SK and my MDA is not in till later on this week. But give me a break about it not being workth $400. ( even if I got mine for $239) I'm sure it will take some getting used to as did the SKII. I think it needs more time to be given a proper review. Also as far as biz use. The ablity to open and edit excel and Word Docs. Well that kicks balls.

In the past, I've had the Treo 650 Palm. And most recently the Sidekick2.

I will say that the MDA compared to the Treo 650 Palm.... Palm shows that they are better at intuition. Things just make common sense. Functions, options, how to navigate, just make sense. The MDA requires a bit more time to know the ins and outs and sometimes leaves you wondering Why?

The SK2 is the ultimate real time communicator. The keyboard, the way you navigate you can do instinctively. It's simpler. It's got a much narrower scope for what you want to do. The Keyboard is by far the best out of all the PDAs out there. Even the rocker wheel without the ability to touch screen... you can do thinks swiftly.

But for business users, it's way too proprietary so i decided to give the mda a shot.

phone wise, the speaker isn't as loud as the treo or the sk2. the keyboard travel sux and the lack of number buttons really is a downer. There's only one alt type key whereas on the sk2 it's on both sides so you can use either thumb. The battery life seems to be all right, but then i have AOL on all the tim eand i will corroborate the other guy's point that AOl is not as well integrated into the MDA as it is on the SK2. The treo verichat was nice, but was by far the worst out of the three.

Overall, the jury's still out. i wish the MDA proved to be teh best of breed amalgamating the positives and eliminating the negatives of the SK2 and Treo Palm 650 in one solid package, but alas it is not.

the MDA is good, but good enough to be $400? nah.

Does anyone know how to get the backlit keyboard to stay on a lil longer? I can't find a setting anywhere and it turns off too quickly, leaving me in the dark (literally) typing IMs

This link has probably been posted somewhere...but I found it and I figured that I would post it. I have tested the instructions listed on this page and was able to successfully tether my MDA to my Mac via Bluetooth and connect to TMO.

Link: http://justinblanton.com/2006/01/ma...bluetooth-modem

One note, I did have to add a user name and password to get this to work. I used (test / test). Speeds are pretty good. YEAH!!!!

Unfortunately it won't work since the MDA doesn't have java support. ( Until somone figures out how to add it back in )

Thanks for the set up information.

I have T-zones, and Wifi at home.

With this set-up the WiFi now works, and when in Wifi Mode I can access sites from the IE Browser and mail with the Pocket Outlook email. When I am in GPRS mode, I can access the Pocket Outlook email, but cannot open any sites on the browser (it seems to be looking for the proxy address it can't find).

If I reverse my conections and put the T-Mobile GPRS in the top box (programs that automatically connect to the Internet) (Under Start/Settings/Connections/Connections/Advanced/Select Networks) - then in GPRS mode, the email doesn't work, but the IE brower does, and in WiFi mode - the IE Browser does not work, and Email doesn't work (apparently it doesn't like the proxy address).

Any thoughts on how to fix this? Also, would be nice to have seamless integration between wifi and GRPS.

Thanks,

Elbow

Thanks Scaw that blog is EXTREMELY helpful!

One other question. I don't plan on upgrading my ROM just yet, I'm going to wait to see a consensus on which is the best performing available ROM on the MDA. But when I do upgrade (all 3 ROMS I assume) will it erase my data (contacts, music, etc.)? I assume it will reset my settings to the ROM default but I was wondering if it will also erase my data because if so then I will just store it all on the miniSD during the flashing process.

Also, if I upgrade to a ROM with Java functionality, there's no reason why java shouldn't work, correct?

Your device right now will have the latest ship ROM but to check go to Start >> Settings >> System >> Device Information

I am running a test ROM right now that is a little more updated than what you guys have, but your Radio ROM and Ext. ROM may be different. See my signature for comparison.

To answer your other question in short, the ROM is the main OS of the device, ExtROM is where all the customization software is included (I have hacked this when I used an Imate ROM but I don't recommend this on T-Mo untill someone posts an accurate list of what each item does), and Radio ROM deals with how your phone connects.

One more Q for you Alex...I assume you got your Q-Tek Test ROM off the xda FTP but I can't seem to find it...does WWE stand for World Wide English as I'm suspecting? If so I found it

And I can't find your extended ROM version on that FTP. The latest English extended ROM I see on there is Qtek_9100_RUU_Prodigy_10107105_Qtek_WWE_Extended_R om.rar Let me know, thanks!

I don't believe it will use .wav ringtones, I seem to recall trying this once before. However, I do recall downloading a free converter that changed my .wav files to mp3s and then I used them. A google search for the software should help you out.

i signed into mytmobile.com and there is a setting to turn off email alerts. i think it's under the alerts section, go to myemail, then click on alerts, there will be a box with a check mark that says "enable alerts" or something like that. try clicking the check mark off. that's what i did and we'll see if that works.

If you don't plan on using a data plan in the near future a sure fire way to avoid any accidental costs is to delete the connection.

Start >> Settings >> Connections >> Connections

delete T-Mobile US, you won't be able to connect to internet via GPRS anymore. And yes you would have been charged for the connection time.

Sorry I can't help more with the wi-fi question, I rarely use it on my MDA.

[QUOTE=josephjames]i copied over some skins to my mda , how do i RUN the file ? ? ?

did you copy it over as a .cab file or a .tsk file. If it is a .cab file, on your device use file explorer to navigate to the folder you transfered it to and select it to run.

If it is a .tsk folder, it should automatically come up as an option.

Start >> Settings >> Personal >> Today

yeah i tired that last night, but still getting the alerts.

now i have a wi-fi problem. after getting my GPRS/EDGE to work, IE no longer pulls up any sites even when I am fully connected to my wi-fi network. tmobile should have made this much easier to configure :-(

When Magic Button is running. Tap the X icon in the corner, you should see an icon of a house appear in the middle of the top bar. Tap and hold the hoouse icon. Drop down windo appears, click on settings.

I believe auto start is what you need to check. It's been a while.

This is an example where the MDA folks should've considered copying the SK2 where the SK2 has a little light sensor so it turns on the keyboard whenever lighting is low.

The fact that there is no option to even adjust is, again, not intuitive.

Yeah thats a big problem for me...

It stays on like 5 seconds, then you have press a random key to turn it on again. Very annoying....

To answer this and your previous post. When you flash with new ROM and or hard reset, all information on the device is gone. In terms of conacts and calendar, this shouldn't be a problem since you will get that all back at next activsync. Ringtones, pictures and other stuff should be left on the storage card and will not be erased by performing this.

As for my ROM, yes I did get it from the xda ftp site. WWE is world wide english. You only need to run the ROM, it will include the Radio and Ext. ROM. Most ROM updates will include everything so you don't have to install each component seperately.

Also make sure you CID unlock your device or you won't be able to use the Qtek ROM.

Good luck,

Alex

I will greatly appreciate if you joined Alex since you are very knowledgeable when it comes to this device (I would love to have you as a moderator Alex). The Yahoo group will be a community resource kind of like here on HoFo, but everything will be done via email which will be more convinient.
Anyone and everyone's invited...

You could have a look here . ROMs have been benchmarked and compared. However, the ROM on your MDA is a newer version than any of the other available ROMS, except for the leaked 2.8.x version. In fact, people might be interested in your ROM :-)

If you are looking for better performance, you might be interested in overclocking , performance of overclocked processors has been benchmarked as well, and proves to make a nice difference.

A ROM upgrade will erase all your data, so yes, do make a backup. That goes for upgrading the ROM or Extended ROM. You can upgrade your Radio ROM seperately, that will not affect any of your data.

HTH HAND!

On other HTC Wizard devices there is no menu option to disable notifications, so people use this registry tweak. Make sure you use the right method to perform a soft reset after you make the changes in the registry. You need to use the second method for a soft reset in this artice.

The Page cannot be displayed or downloaded because the connection was lost. Check the connection and try again later.

I was not getting this error in my old phone (Nokia 6620). I have been on the $19.99 internet2 plan for a few years now.

Most of the other pages work fine for me. http://oa.wap.yahoo.com works beautifully, but I would prefer the more natural searches of google.

Does anybody have problems with google local that is on the $19.99 plan? I do not have it setup to go thru the proxy at this time.

Thanks for the help.

It works for me if I access it through the proxy. T-zones also requires to go though the proxy for some reason.

So now I have 2 GPRS connections: one using internet2.voicestream.com and connects to The Internet and the second with an apn wap.voicestream.com and connects to WAP Network. I also have a proxy (216.155.16.50:8080) that connects from WAP Network to Secure WAP Network.

When I want to access T-Zones, google etc. I am using Secure WAP Network so it is routed through the proxy. Regular sites work too, but I preffer to use the regular internet2.voicestream.com for those (make sure 'Automatically detect settings in IE is unchecked). MMS has to go through wap.voicestream.com without a proxy so I use WAP Network for that. All other services EMail, FTP, IM use The Internet (internet2.voicestream.com).

This work fine for me. Let me know if it fixes your problem.

Is there a way to make the alarm use sound when the device is on vibrate? Also is there a way to make the alarm play mp3s instead of the 10 or so sounds that come on the device?

Is the MDA's processor a ARM/XSCALE/PXA or a MIPS/SH3? It makes a difference on certain apps it seems.

Not sure about the sound when using vibrate, but what I have discovered is the alarms are using .WAV files located in the \windows folder. I tried to put an mp3 there but it didn't recognize it...I tried a .WAV and it worked. Not sure why this is different than the ringers...but it worked, so I was happy.

i have two quick questions. I read a post back then about getting AIM from the UK website. Now I downloaded and everything is fine and i sent 1 txt message to see if it was with connection or SMS. I checked my txt messages and it said i had sent 6 when before i installed the UK AIM i had sent 5 according to the #674# code. So does this use SMS or the EDGE/GPRS?

my next question is about the t-zones and using that for internet. If i were to get it, would i get the EDGE speeds i would get with my $29.99 plan? If i do then how would i add it? would i call CC or what?

thanks

Yet another very simple question...how do I flash a new ROM? Do I place the executable on the device itself or do I run it from my PC via ActiveSync?

The option is hinted on within the email section of the manual that comes with the phone, which is towards the front. You'll see the 3 dotted options I'm talking about, they have a screen capture. (if anyone has the manual handy, please help)

Anywho, you have to find your way back into the add new My E-mail account

There you will have three dotted options. The third one mentions something about setting triggers or something. It is within this option where it then tells you that if you enable this, you will no longer receive text messages to alert you that new emails have arrived.

I did it and it works. Remember, create *new My E-mail account* ... not just create new email account.

How do you completely remove unwanted email accounts from MDA?

Posted by: ManticorePgh

Hey guys... loving the MDA so far... having lots of fun customizing and messing around with it... the one question I have... has anyone found a Phone Pad replacement? The T-Mobile Dial Pad's buttons are WAY too small for my fingers...I have to use my fingernails to try to hit the right numbers... I've been using the Voice commands and Dialing from my Contacts list mostly to avoid using the Dial Pad. I've found a few skins, but they don't make the buttons any bigger, just make them look different (like Moto Razr, etc).

I tried regedit to turn off the "custom" Dial Pad, but TMO must have overwritten those files as well, because it doesn't change it.

Any ideas?

I feel like Homer Simpson when I try to dial ... "The fingers you have used to dial are too fat... to obtain a special dialing wand, please mash the keypad with your palm now.....waaaahhhhhh!" hehe

i set up my AOL account to come into my MDA. for the email triggers i selected the option for it to silently trigger it. it said that if i selected that option, new emails would not be in my SMS messages. now i have it like that but i still got an sms of a new email. now i don't know how to delete an account. how do i do that?

i also noticed that email that i read and deleted still stayed as new on AOL. how come?

Next establish and activesync connection witht he device. The new ROM will should come as an .exe file. Run that file on your computer and follow the directions, takes 5 to 10 minutes.

When you setup or POP3 or IMAP email account there should be an option where you decide whether or not you want to retrieve a copy of the email to your device and leave on the server or remove.

My MDA backlight settings did not work correctly yesterday. Under Settings/Backlight/Battery power I de-selected box "Turn off backlight if device not used for __" and I deselected the box "Turn on backlight when a button is pressed or the screen is tapped". Clicked OK, exited the screen and then came back in and selected both boxes. Now the backlight goes off at the proper time.

However, if I select the time interval for 3, 4 or 5 minutes, tapping on the screen won't turn the backlight back on again - I have to press the Power button. Selecting a timed settings below 3 minutes, like 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 sec and 10 sec, and tapping on the screen when dimmed successfully turns the backlight on again.

I called T-Mobile several times today to determine if this is a bug or a defective phone. The second time I called the tech had a similar problem with his MDA. So swapping phones probably won't fix the issue. He said they will file a trouble-ticket report about this issue with their implementation department.

Thanks for this very helpful forum.

I know this is answered someone else on here, but I can not find an explicit walk through. I will be receiving my MDA Friday. I will be running it only with the 5.99 tzones. What are the exact steps I need to take to set up a proxy so that I can use ie? how will i tell if it worked seeing as somepeople who have no data plan are able to get on? Will i be charged to get on the internet if I do not have the 29.99 plan and don't have my proxy setting right?

TO EVERYONE WANTING TO USE T-ZONES PROXY SETUP WITH MDA:

T-Mobile PDA Services has let a number of the posters on TreoCentral.com (I'm a former Treo user) know that T-Mo has caught on to the proxy work around that people are using with T-Zones on PDA devices. Certain markets have already had this ability shut off. The system is going to "fix" all points of access eventually.

THIS IS WHY a lot of you are having problems accessing the web using the proxy work around, even when you follow the directions correctly.

To sum it all up:

The T-Mobile T-Zones Proxy setup on PDA devices to access the internet will not work indefinitely. It has already been shut off in some markets. If you set your phone up to use this way of accessing the internet, and it does NOT work, your market may have already been shut off.

Reply with any questions.

I just want the directions so that I can see if it works still in my market (KC)....

Any ideas on why I am getting an error when I try to setup "my email" through my.tmobile.com? I have the 29.99 data plan. The error I get is,
"We apologize, you do not have access to the My E-mail service.

Please use the e-mail solution provided with your wireless handheld"

Posted by: djayrage

I believe I read somewhere in here that "my email" is an add feature (more $)...

Anybody figure out how to have it check for new emails like every 5 mins or something like that? because right now I have to do it manually.

Posted by: ustna

When I look at all of the services available for the MDA, I do not see anything about T-Zones or My Email..Grr

Posted by: quahogian

I've been on xda ftp site and have seen all of the roms except T-mobile USA. Iunderstand it is gonna be a dump so maybe all three (radio, extended and main) ROMs will have to be installed differently. I have MDA extended and soon gettin 8125. I guess I also can install the 2.8.x.x ROM. People are complaining about no JVM on MDA, so QTEKs 2.8 I presume has it right? So anybody got QTEKs ROM (radio and main) with custom extended rom with some files in the mix from US T-mo extended rom dump and made it work all gooood?

I have it setup both ways - check every 15 minutes, and also the email trigger via myemail.t-mobile.com. Both don't work. I have to manually download as well.

HI all,

just got the MDA but i am having a heck of a time connecting to any WAP. I'll connect just fine but then after 30 secs, the connection will drop and it will reconnect. But it'll continue doing this forever. It never maintains a connection.

I thought it might be because i have a wrt54g wireless router with DDWRT on it so i tried at work with two other wireless routers and it did the same thing.

Anyone else have this problem?

Posted by: metalzo

Has anyone succesfully used Orb on the MDA? Via WiFi or EDGE?

T-Zones is not for the MDA/SDA and if you read a few posts back web browsing via T-Zones has or will be disabled soon.
In that other thread (over 100 pages) is where I read about the "my email" option, I believe it was for business users only. One quick call to 611 should be able to tell you if that is true or not.

I am using the Qtek 2.8 ROM and it works well. I have not put any of the T-Mo customizations into my extended ROM for the simple reason as none of them are neccesary. There is a .cab file floating around that will install all of T-Mo USA settings in case you go that route and don't want to type them all in yourself.

What are the tweaks to make the MDA snappier? Like screen redraws from landscape to portrait is sometimes crawling.

Also, how do I get cleartype to work in landscape mode? The check box is greyed out. portrait is fine. Odd.

Posted by: Alex301

I believe for cleartype to work in landscape mode there is a Reg Hack. It is also one of the options found in Tweaks2k2.

Found this in the massive KJAM thread in the other forum:

[HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\System\GDI\ClearTypeSettings]
"OffOnRotation"=1

Change "OffOnRotation" to equal 0

After a Soft Reset, that should make ClearType work in both portrait and landscape modes. Let me know if it works!

1badmf: That is the exact problem I had with Gmail and since I rarely use that account, I didn't get too into fixing it. Ill put you on the right path. When you log into your Gmail account from your PC and go into settings for the pop3 access. The settings for Enable Pop email for all mail, or mail that arrives from now on is the culprit of this.

Good luck, It is probaly as simple as selecting another option, but I didn't get too into it.

First and foremost I have yet to receive my MDA yet so all of the advice I am offering is simply what I have read in these threads and the ones in the PPC section....
Is it deleting the emails on your device, or is it erasing the emails on the server from which you are retrieving them from?

I'd say you are right, RUU_Prodigy_2080701_101_11310_Qtek_WWE_Test is the file you used right? I'll just dig up instructions on xda-dev and install that then, do more search and will find the T-mo US settings. How are you liking the 2.8, did you overclock? I want to also overclock after 2.8, particularly for skype and tcpmp. Wanted to use wizard as my main mp3/video device as well, but having a library of 50 days of music and 350 movies kinda tough to narrow down for 2gb flash memory, plus when you put music on random, it's not that random after I listen to all 200+ songs 5 times and I'm too lazy to keep changin it

Anyways, how is a2dp working out for you? I would still enjoy stereo sound for streaming somaFM on wifi to my i-phono minis. Plus when I do have my fantom 6G true video ipod, I can switch from listening music on pmp to phone when I get a call and then back with just push of a button on my headphonies.

You need a registry editor to make the change. I like the one that comes with Resco Explorer but I think there are free ones too.

I'm pretty sure you just search for the Registry key I posted and make the change I noted. Use a program like Total Commander to do it. Here's the link: http://www.ghisler.com/wince2x.htm

Seems to work well for me. Here's what I've noticed. (Again, I'm coming from the SK2)

1. Takes too long to sign on
2. Nice big display (duh!)
3. Doesn't appear to realize if you've typed in the user or pass incorrectly, it instead assumes you have a connection problem on your device
4. Doesn't appear to be any sort of customization in appearance/arrangement of buddy list
5. Buddy list doesn't seem to refresh on its own, you have to refresh it yourself
6. Again, consistency in deliever/receipt is non-existent. Sometimes you'll get messages immediately, other times it will take up to a minute or more
7. Again, typing on this will take some time to learn, but not as convenient as the SK2 keyboard
8. No buddy icons
9. Signing off takes just as long to sign on
10. After closing the app, I go to quit it as an application and I get an error message that says the program is not responding becuase it's busy or waiting for a response from me or has stopped running. I ultimately have to END TASK. Lame

That's about all I know at this point. Hope this helps.

Which version of Total Commander does the MDA use? CE, Pocket PC, Smartphone?

I have set it to allow POP for all e-mail "that arrives from now on"

It checks my mail every 3 minutes, which works fine. But once it gets checked it erases them from the PHONE. They are still available on the online Gmail. I have checked every folder on the there to see if it's moving it.

It seems like it's just not saving them to the phone it's just showing the new e-mails that come off the POP server. Thanks for your continued help.

quahogian: The 2.8 ROM has been working well. The early reports of memory leak issues never came to pass. I have not overclocked the device, but that seems to be working well for others that have try.

As for a2dp, haven't purchased my BT Stereo Headphones yet so I couldn't speak to this. I still haven't commited to making this my all in one device and giving up my Ipod but I am slowly heading in that direction.

If you are planning to run through all of this and are not keen on updating in the near future, I would hold off for about a week. Imate's new ROM is due out in the next week. That way you can do your customizations on an actual released ROM and not a test version. Ill post here when it is released since I will probably give it a test run.

As for flashing your device, at xda-dev's site you will first need to download the free unlocking program. Easy to use, here is the link...http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=33796 ...

Cheers,

Alex

i think i had the same problem as you do. it would not connect. the only way i got it to connect was to open PIE and let the GPRS/EDGE make a connection there, close PIE and then sign on with AIM. that is the only way i got it to work. But does that AIM not use sms? because i downloaded it, sent one message, used #674# to check how many messages i had used and it has one more than what i had before i sent the message. so can any conform to me that this AIM uses internet connection and not sms?

it really shouldnt be using SMS since it has nothing to do with SMS. it works on wifi and regular PPCs so if it was using SMS then something is wrong. I have not really checked this out as I wasnt able to login even after connecting to GPRS/EDGE.

Guys, this directly from the T-Mobile site:

Will I be billed for the time period I'm signed on to the AOL® Instant Messenger™ Service (AIM®)?

No, you will not be charged for the time period you are signed on to AIM®. There is no charge by AOL® to use AIM®. You will be billed according to the number of messages and command functions you send and receive.

I have always been billed for a text message for every IM. Unless that has changed with the internet plan for the MDA. I dont think so, this was posted on the MDA support page.

i think that is for the usual built in clients that use SMS, however the mobile AIM for PPC doesnt do that. its a direct connection to AOL servers so there should be no charge. you can use it with a non-phone PDA and thus how could tmobile charge you there? Also just turn off phone function and turn on wi-fi and use it. should guarantee no charges for SMS

Those prices are about right. With 25% off that isn't too shabby. I have read alot about Pocket Plus and Pocket Informant, people seem to like them alot. A search in the Pocket PC forum will result in threads regarding their usefulness. I try to minimize my use of Today Plugins, to me they can clutter up the screen, but to each his own. They also slow down device performance.

Check one page back. Really try to do a little searching on your own, then this thread won't turn into 100 pages by Friday.

In other news:

msmobiles is reporting that the ROM update for the MDA Vario (European version) has been officially pushed back to Q2. That doesn' bode well for a new US version with A2DP and AKU2 comming anytime soon. Might want to consider reflashing with another company if those are features you are looking for.

Posted by: Talon402

Someone has uploaded the MDA extended ROM, which includes the cab files for email notifications and Oz. Just download the zip, and copy the selected cab for Oz and the notifications to your device and run them. It's not necessary to run all of these cabs, since all but the ones you uninstalled were already put on your MDA.

You'll need to register at XDA developers and the files are in the first post.

MDA Extended ROM

Posted by: Alex301

Honestly, what the hell is all that crap, my Ext. ROM is a fraction of that and I am running smoothly on T-Mo, grant it I have to add the GPRS settings in on my own and use a .cab file for the MMS settings. All garbage in my opinion.

my .02

Posted by: Talon402

Alot of that stuff is what you said: cabs to auto set the access points, and also cabs for T-Mobile's MyEmail triggers, and Oz, as well as MMS, favorites, and and some tweaks, like the "GPRS Stall".

Unfortunately, I still can't get the silent trigger function to work, even after hard reseting and using this extended rom with aWizard.

Posted by: Alex301

Since I have never used them, what are you using the silent triggers for. I assume to notify your device to pull e-mail from myemail. So I ask this, is your email address a T-mobile one or are you using myemail to gather other email accounts. If it is the latter why don't you just set those accounts up directly with your device.

I used MyCorporateEmail and I thought it was a horrible option for the MDA, I instead opted for a third party solution to deliver push email to my device.

What are you using right now for push email?

Posted by: josephjames

what is a rom ? like everyone is talking about the rom update what is that going to do ! the phone came out yesterday ! !

thansk for the help im just learning

Posted by: Talon402

Well, I attempted to set up an Exchange account today with 4Smartphone.net. They were only able to give me one push account. I wanted to have my Gmail, Yahoo Mail & AOL all pushed, and the trial "Pro Account" only let my do the Gmail, and even then i couldn't get my Outlook to sync properly.

So I scrapped that, and tried to get T-Mobile's MyEmail to function as a faux push solution. MyEmail aggregates my 3 accounts, and in theory is supposed to silent trigger the device to grab the new emails.

I receive an SMS with computer code (obviously intended to command the device to pull the email) but the SMS is supposed to be invisible to me, and furthermore the email doesn't come through.

Everything on both ends is configured correctly. I'm not sure where the problem lies, because the programs in the MDA extended ROM to control this feature are running without a problem.

Posted by: deemota

Ok I had setup the Myemail to send them to my MDA when they came in. I had to turn it off because I racked up like 46 text messages in 2 days. If I turn off that SMS notification, will this stop counting as a text message, or do the emails themselves pushing to my MDA are the ones that count as an SMS? I hope it's the SMS so I can turn this feature back on, I love it.

Posted by: ustna

Please...someone tell me how to get my email sent to my MDA.

Posted by: Talon402

If you turn off the SMS notification, it will stop counting as a Txt message...but you won't get automatic updates to your inbox either. The emails themselves don't count as SMS, only the notifiers.

No more notifications, sorry for the incorrect info I posted before.

Mine came set to 0 already, but I still get the notifications. Any ideas?

Posted by: Talon402

You need to turn off the SMS MyEmail notification from T-Mobile.com's end. Not the local notifier for when you send or receive an SMS on your device.

So I should consider unlimited text plan huh, if I want to continue receiving my email into my inbox?

sorry, but that wont get much help around here. you need to at least tell what serivce you use, what you want to do etc. there are way too many ways to list it all out

For anyone who has has already dropped their MDA (or any of its many variants), how did it hold up? I'm interested in an MDA but I tend to drop my phone from time to time and need something that can hold up to my abuse.

I just "upgraded" yesterday from a BB and am not sure I made the right move yet. I am on the 29.99 data plan. I need to get my email from the office. I see posts about people getting a SMS when there is a new email. That would work for me (better than nothing). Sorry for the sarcasm.

the SMS are notificaitons after you set up an email account. if you moved from a BB the MDA will not support BB mail, but if you tell us more about what your office uses we might be able to help.

Pop3, exchange, etc all use different ways to setup

Probably. Average how many emails you receive per month, plus your normal text and get a suitable plan.

Right now, I am experimenting with turning off the SMS alerts and telling the accounts in Pocket Outlook to connect to T-Mobile's servers every X minutes to download the new mail. Of course...I could just skip T-Mobile altogether and tell them to check directly with the source servers.

i dropped it onto my carpeted floor from regular height (the carpet is the hard kind). nothing happened and it works just fine, however I bet if it hits a hard surface it could suffer some problems. most likely LCD would break or internals

is there any free registry editors out?

Exchange and pop3. Also, for some reason when i logged into "my.tmobile" on my desktop, I tried to set up an email account there and they told me that I do not have access to that. ???

A lot of people reccomend Agile messenger, but it is not supported by WM5, this app is and comes with a free trial. Any takers or opinions?

see the way to enable the G / E icons. If have you fast surfing speeds then most likely you are on edge. Or call 611 and ask. There are some maps, but not sure about the links. also doing a speed test on dslreports.com will help you determin what you are using

anyone having problem with active sync and MDA? for me active sync connects to the MDA for about a min and then drops it. I have had the same problem on 2 different systems, the device installs as a WIndows Mobile Device in Device Manager is connected via USB but for some reason Active Sync is unable to maintain a connection to it.

Posted by: NeverBepeace

Im having trouble understanding the steps they are providing. Could some body list the steps in order so I can see if i can get edge.

Posted by: success2be

What is up with the MDA reception? I come home for the 2nd day with my MDA and it searchs for signal for 90 minutes before grabing between 1 and 2 bars?

I assume if it can't find a signal within ten minutes, it'll never find a signal. It looks like there is a problem with the signal searching algoritm.

Anyone confirming same problem with reception?

Nope not me, as a matter of fact I get awesome reception! I will be checking tomorrow where I had very little signal with my other phone to see and compare them.

Posted by: deemota

My reception is great also. May be a problem in your area...

how do I fully uninstall programs? I have been trying but can't 'fully' uninstall them!

Another question, how do I tether?

Posted by: megsydmom

i'm going to order screen protectors from boxwave, but they don't have the tmobile mda as an actual device. i think i read that it is similar to the qtek 9100. is this correct? thanks!

Posted by: ilrosewood

Today I switched from the $2.99 tzones plan to the $19.99 unlimited internet. Previously google worked fine through the wap.voicestream.com + proxy. Now I am connected to internet2.voicestream.com and no proxy and no joy for google.com sites. This has got to be fixed!

Also, MMS messages are not sending. Thats a damned shame too.

Posted by: NeverBepeace

Can any body walk me through the steps of turning on edge or seeing if I can get edge. I already downloaded total commander to my device.

How did you get the $19.99 unlimited internet plan?? I've been talkin to CSR, and they told me that its not available anymore.

Posted by: ustna

Not sure if anyone else feels this way, but, my MDA seems to be running smoother today compared to yesterday.

Posted by: thenewnoise

How do you guys feel about the battery? I used mine today and the battery only lasted about 13 hours. about 6 minutes of that was talk time

by using it for 13 hours i mean i unplugged it at 8am and by 9pm it was telling me plug it in. i mostly texted with it all day and had active sync running every 5 minutes

I think the battery life on mine is awesome. As much browsing with wifi and edge that I did today, I think it is great. Not to mention I had bluettooth on all day. At the end of the day, it was still at 30%.

Posted by: NeverBepeace

DEEMOTA Could you kindly walk me through the steps to get edge? Im located in NY as well. Im not understanding the steps that are provided in this thread.

Posted by: deemota

I don't understand what you are looking for. Your MDA had EDGE enabled right out of the box. The only thing that it doesn't have enabled is the E symbol. Do you have the data plan or do you have the regular $5 web?

Posted by: NeverBepeace

I have the data plan for $29.99......also I would like to have the "E" symbole when ever im on edge.

Posted by: deemota

Are you getting online at all with your MDA? Do you have a registry editor?

If you wish to see the E icon, you need to change the registry.
Get a registry editor ( PHM Registry Editor for ex.) and go there:

HKLM\Drivers\BuiltIn\RIL\EnableDifferGprsEdgeIcon

Change the value from 0 to 1

Close PHM and reset your MDA.

I'd have to say that it's a no go here in the New York/Jersey area. Looks like I can't connect thru wap.voicestream.com with the proxy.

Oh well. I guess I'll have to stick with Yahoo for now. I find it more useful anyways since it actually gives you cross street info, which is very convenient in cities like New York.

Was just about to post this myself. This will give you the E icon whenever EDGE is available. Be sure to reset your device when you change the value.

Ok. Thanks, Just did it. So now i just do a soft reset correct? Also, would i still need total commander on my device?

From the MS page you linked ...
"The following table shows the adapter-specific values for the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\<Adapter Name>\Parms\Tcpip subkey."

I have no idea which Adapter to change it on as there are quite a few listed.

Yes, soft reset. You should leave it on for future registry hacks.

Posted by: thenewnoise

What do you guys think of the Gprs always on hack? Do you think it would eat the battery up quickly?

http://htcwizard.westlands.org/2006...ys-on/#comments

* Use Total Commander to navigate to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Comm\ConnMgr\Providers\{7C4B7A3 *****}\Connections\GPRS*****\
* Assign a value of 1 to Always On
* Perform a soft reset

AOL instant messenger is insanely bad on the MDA. this includes MSN which takes FOREVER to log onto.

i'm really hoping that agilemessenger is a true chat solution. but then on their site it says that the wm 5.0 version ain't even out yet.

Posted by: brightcell

Are you all satisfied with the page by page scrolling in PIE (using the registry hack)?
I don't like it because I lost the ability to go from link to link.

I already installed Smartkeys ( just amazing...) to make my MDA a real one-hand device so I decided to go back to the original setting so I don't have to tap on the screen to select a link.
Was wondering how everybody is handling that?

Like I said, I do not have my MDA yet. How many and what adapters are listed? You probably only need to change one for dialup maybe. The WIFI connections adapter should be fine the way it is since you are not going trhough t-mobile network. Google does work via wifi, right?

The other ppc version 2002 or 2003 works fine on the mda. I posted the other info about it a few pages back....search it up, but it does work and has been working on other devices like the kjam/qtek for a while now.
