well, the rep tried to edit my gprs to internet2.voicestream.com, but that wasn't working. i went home, still not working, signed on to mytmobile and found out that they had billed me for the VPN 19.95 internet. so i changed the gprs to internet3.voicestream.com, and it's working great.

but the 29.95 plan was not showing up for my account for some reason. don't know why, but i'm happy with 19.95.

Yes, it works fine via wifi. Just not edge/gprs.

There are quite a few (dozens) listed. Non are obvious. I did find one labeled cellular and tweaked it to 1450 there and still got no joy.

Just use your own eyes and look on the site and see you have both options.

Has anyone gotten the keyboard indicator tweak to work on the T-mobile MDA?

Mine will not save the entry.

One of the best features of the HTC Wizard is its extractable keyboard. However, using the Shift and Symbol key can be quite confusing because it is not always obvious what the status of these buttons is. Here is the solution:

* Use Total Commander to navigate to \HKCU\ControlPanel\Keyb
* Create a new entry with the name EnableIndicator
* Assign the new entry a DWORD value of 1
* perform a soft reset

From now on, when you extract te keyboard, a keyboard status indicator will be visible. A C indicates that the Shift key is active, a dot indicates that the Symbol key is active.

Without seeing the complete list, I have no idea. All I can suggest at this point is to keep trying them until you find the one that fixes the issue, if there is one that will fix the issue.

Wow, that really good i hope that they let me get the same plan cause the area that i'm at has no edge whatsoever, and a total of 2 hotspots in the whole city, so that would be a lot better than paying the 29.95.

The US verson of the T-Mobile MDA, is just the "T-Mobile MDA". This is equivalent to the MDA Vario or the K-Jam.

Got my MDA yesterday and used it for a day before I setup ActiveSync.

Everything worked fine prior to the first ActiveSync. After the syncing my MDA crashes when I tap to the "Sounds & Notifications" icon and than select "Notifications".

A soft reset will get the device working again, but it will crash again if I go to the "Notifications" tab. The same thing happens when in phone mode and I select "Phone>Options".

I have done multiple hard resets and all is well after the hard reset until I again try to ActiveSync and than the problem returns.

Is it just me? Any Ideas? Should we start a new thread for MDA Bugs?

WRS2K - be adventerous and download the cab and *gasp* click and see what happens... you will feel like Chris Columbus!

mmeyer4663 - thanks. Ill try a few more but are we sure this is an MTU thing? That just seems weird that only goole sites would be affected by that.

Also, I got the xhtml google page to load but nada past that.

sorry mate but that works flawless for me. try going into memory first and close all running programs and see if you can get to notifications sans crash

well because silly questions make threads like this 200 pages and thus worthles!

get cab and click on it in file explorer

I'm surprised no one has complained about this MDA not supporting stereo bluetooth!!!!

Does someone know if the latest test ROM on the xda dev page supports A2DP?

Anyone figured out how to get java running on the MDA yet? I would really like to get google local running.

don't get ur panties up in a bunch.

when I click on .cab on the site explorer immediatley takes me to the actual page and shows a bunch of code. I don't know how to dl the cab file as a file to a specified folder.

anyone who has the patience to just explain?

Posted by: WRS2K

also why is it that when I open for ex file exlorer or instant messenger or word... and I click ok to close or exit.... in memeory manager it shows that they're still eating up mem , the little amount the mda comes with? this seems to slow down the mda a bunch.

Step 1, download the .cab. Step 2, click on it in file explorer.

Thats it. It is as simple as that. Im sorry mate but if you can't figure out how to download something, I think your days are numbered.

Seriously man, go read up on pocket pcs before you ask such basic questions. Hell, read the first post of the thread even! You won't learn this stuff unless you go out and find it. If you don't learn it, you will be one of the people that "hates" this awesome phone. I've been around long enough to know this.

When you close out of a program in WM, you don't actually close the program. Its like you minimize it. Some applications support an exit function and there are applets to help manage such things. Also, as far as WM devices go, this ain't bad in the memory department by any stretch of the imagination.

Maybe because, OK doesn't really close apps
Get smartkeys (freeware) so clicking on OK will close apps.

Im curious if anyone else is getting the following error message while using Activesync...
"Unable to obtain a server assigned IP address. Try again later or enter an IP address in Network settings." Except ... everything works while connected via USB.

Some google searching shows that other people get it and just click ok and moved on.

Posted by: moschops

When the phone is closed how the heck do I activate the Windows Menu without pulling out the stylus or touching the screen? Its not documented and any number of attempts at multiple or combo keypresses failed. Seems like a useful feature to have - is there a hack to enable it?

And while I'm at it... why on earth isn't there a backup program for the phone? I know I can get data back with ActiveSync but what about all those registry settings??? Most PPC devices include a backup utility... sight.

Posted by: msquare

I can't get wi-fi to work on my MDA. I seem to be connecting to the network correctly. (It shows on the COnnections page and on the top of hte screen.)

But when I try to open any webpage, i get a page not found error.

It works just fine when I switch to GPRS/EDGE.

Am I missing a setting somewhere?

Posted by: jet3004

Okay...Importing contacts from SIM to the phone's memory?

Posted by: ZackM0rrisPh0ne

has anyone successfully configured the mda to work with goodlink? i have successfully installed goodlink, works great after installation, but after a reboot...my phone freezes up on a blue "windows mobile" screen...with the word "password" on the top left. the phone then does not respond to any key presses to enter any password. any ideas?

i have a few questions...

1. what does the 'increase performace' item do in 'XDA Developers Registry Tweak'
2. how do you download a .cab file in IE, there is no 'save' or 'saveas..' option anywhere
3. after installing the XDA Developers Registry Tweak i noticed that the bars of my service icon has been cut off right in the middle of the thing that looks like a Y with a bar over it, all the way to the right hand side of the screen. whats the deal with that?
4. my friend has the same sort of phone for Verizon, and has icons on the main screen, is that possible with the MDA?
5. is there a way to make it so when the divice goes into standby mode, when you open it, it will turn back on, so you dont have to press the power button?

You probably are not using the right method to perform the soft reset. That makes your device reset before the changes have been written back to the registry. Have a look at this article.

As an alternative, you could try XDA Developers Registry Wizard which includes this tweak as well.

On the MDA developer's forum there is supposedly a hack that, when activated, causes your bluetooth headset's talk button to act like the voice recognition hardware button on your device. There are success stories of it working with other WM5 devices, but none on the MDA yet.

I've tried, and I can't get it to work, nor can I get any of the "BlueTunes" type hacks to work (streaming mono audio to bluetooth).

If it was that simple, your blood pressure wouldn't be so high.

Again, when I'm on my MDA and I click on the .cab link on Agile's site, the click action takes me to another web page with a bunch of code. I try to hold the wand and see if I can save file as like on the desktop, but again, it doesn't show that option. I know about the file explorer, but since the file isn't downloaded as a file and shown as an icon, it just ain't there.

With regard to the second comment, just because this unit happens to have more memory or better memory management than other WM devicies, since that's all relative, it doesn't make it "good". It's kinda like saying Roseanne Barr is better looking than most overweight women doesn't make her attractive.

The MDA is HARDLY an awesome device, but then maybe Roseanne is the best you can do.

Alright, I'll try to help you, since no one else seems willing. In order to install that .CAB file correctly, you need to download it on a desktop computer, so try that. I've not tried downloading a CAB from my MDA yet, so I can't speak to that effect.

Download the CAB to your desktop on your regular computer. Start up activesync with your MDA connected. On the activesync box on your PC, click "Explore". Navigate to "My Documents" in that explore box, drop the newly downloaded CAB file there, disconnect MDA, then use MDA File Explorer to navigate to "My Documents". Tap the CAB file, and it should install. Voila!

Posted by: WRS2K

Thanks, bud.

The reason why I didn't try that last night is because I use a Mac at home.

Posted by: snoslicer8

Ahh, ok. Well, for future reference, you can buy an SD card reader for USB and use it on your Mac. It shouldn't have a problem reading the card, seeing as Macs can read PC stuff. Then, you can download any CAB you want, put it on the card, then plug the card back into your phone and use the same explorer to find the file on the card and run it. The directory for the card is "My Device->Storage Card". Hope this helps.

Also, if your Mac has bluetooth, you can push the file over bluetooth from the Mac to the MDA. You'd have to do the regedit earlier in this thread to enable Bluetooth File Receive, though.

However, if I select the time interval for 3, 4 or 5 minutes, tapping on the screen won't turn the backlight back on again - I have to press the Power button. Selecting a timed settings below 3 minutes, like 2 minutes, 1 minute, 30 sec and 10 sec, and tapping on the screen when dimmed successfully turns the backlight on again.

Settings/Power/Advanced/On Battery Power: Turn off device is not used for X minutes

Of course, it would help to set this to > 3 minutes

Sync up the times you set at Settings/System/Power/Advanced and Settings/System/Backlight/Battery Power

I'm also having this issue. It doesn't seem to affect functionality of the ActiveSync however.

I love this thing, but I'm having issues with Active sync as well. Nothing syncs!!! Usually when I hook up a device it automatically syncs with outlook. I didn't get any contacts synced to my phone. Now I'm at work and I need my contacts and phone numbers. The active sync just runs and runs. I thought that you were able to give your profile a name when you first run active sync with your device. My profile comes up as WM_USER why is that? i've always given my device/profile a name. Then it keeps telling me that I have to have 32mb mini sd card to set up WM Player. Do I need this to set up WM Player???

Sounds like he has the same issue I have - when I download a .cab file with PIE it loads the file into PIE rather than saving it.

So, for SOME of us, it's NOT just as simple as clicking on a .cab file, saving it then opening it in PIE.

I'll go find the answer to my problem and it's not a big thing for me as I can active sync .cab files to the MDA. It's more of a minor annoyance that something doesn't work the way I'd expect it to.

yes you would be able to install about all of your programs to your sd, this would free up ram on your device and would help it run quicker. get a sd!!!

Well aren't we smug and unhelpful. Since you're completely useless in your answer to them "oh just download the cab!" when the problem they are having is very obvious, I'll chime in to make up for it.

If you are clicking on a link in a webpage to a cab or such and your browser loads a page of code, it's not something you are doing wrong. Unfortunately, it's also not something you can work around in PIE (as far as I've been able to find, there's no 'save link as' option). The problem is the MIME type associations on the web server side not returning a type of application/cab for .cab/.CAB extensions.

My solution to this is I have a local webserver which I retrieve these files to with wget, and I have my webserver's MIME magics setup properly for cab/CAB extensions, so I simply fetch to my own server and then retrieve it from there. The other option would be to pull it down to your PC and beam it over with one of the various methods for doing such (activesync, obex, etc).

Aside from the increased storage on the miniSD card, is there an advantage/disadvantage to installing programs on the miniSD versus the phone itself? Which runs faster?

I just went through a major ActiveSync drama and think I know what you need to do. If you are switching over to the MDA from a previous PPC and a different version of AS, you need to first uninstall the previous version of AS before you install 4.1. Once the AS is deleted re-install from the CD and AS should recognize you new device by the name you have given it. It may also resolve some of your other issues. In my case I had an item in Outlook Notes that was completely crashing my MDA. It took several hard resets and a step by step sync of data until I found the culprit.

Good Luck.

Well I resolved my problem. I will post the solution here in case, for some bizare reason, this happens to anyone else.

It turns out that the culprit was an item in Outlook Notes that most have been currupted and was causing the crash.

I had to do a hard reset of the MDA and a complete uninstall/reinstall of AS on the PC. I then performed multiple syncs adding a catagory of data (i.e contacts, calendar, notes, etc) with each sync. My intial hunch was that the problem was with my Calendar data/alarms. But lo and behold it was notes.

I simply deleted all notes fromt he MDA and my issue was resolved..no more crashes. I then went back into Outlook and cleaned up my Notes by deleting a few things and renaming some others and now all is well.

I keep reading people saying this, and this is not the case at all. You are living in the Windows Mobile 2003 world of yesterday. On Windows Mobile 5 devices, programs do not install to RAM, they install to ROM.

The MDA has 128 MB ROM, and 64 MB RAM. On a WM5 phone, RAM works the same way it does on a PC. When you do a soft resest, or you turn off the phone, anything in RAM dissapears.

On the other hand, ROM is the equivalent to hard drive space on your PC. Think of the miniSD card as an external hard drive on your PC -- it functions the same as the internal hard drive (ROM), but is not as fast. Also, in the case of the WM5 device, ROM is somewhat limited.

While you do need to leave some of your ROM empty for things such as cache files and temporary files just the same as you cannot fill up your PC's hard drive completely, this has nothing to do with RAM. RAM is only affected by how many programs you have running at the moment and has nothing to do with how many programs you have installed on your phone.

I would say that on a WM5 device, as long as you have at least 10 MB ROM empty, you will be fine -- that is plenty for whatever temp & cache files you will need. Just empty your Pocket IE temp files every once in a while and more space should open up. As a general rule, install programs you want to run quicker to the ROM, while other programs that are less speed sensative should be installed to the miniSD card. Also, even programs installed to the miniSD card will put some files on the ROM.

I assume if it can't find a signal within ten minutes, it'll never find a signal. It looks like there is a problem with the signal searching algoritm.

Anyone confirming same problem with reception?

Yes, I can confirm the searching problem on the MDA. I came out of the Metro in DC and it kept searching for at least 90 mins and doesn't find anything. This is where I normally have 4-5 bars. However, if I go into manual select network it finds the network right away so something must be up with the auto search. Any ideas?

Ok, six pages and my eyes just went crossed. Ill try my best to chime in on some of the things that I remembered.

What I use for Push:

The only email that I use on my MDA, and in general is my Corporate Email (I do have gmail but it isn't utilized). Since we are running Exchange 2000, AES push email is out of the question. So I have signed up with a company called Intellisync. I pay $16 per month for their service. What it basically does is I have a redirector on my desktop, so I leave it running always with Outlook open. I also have a program running in the background of my MDA. Any changes to email, calendar, tasks is instantly pushed both ways. I don't do contacts since you get a more thourough sync through Activesync. I tried using T-Mobile Mycorporate, but since it uses pop3 access, there is no true syncing meaning it didn't delete emails on my device that I deleted in my Outlook, unacceptable to me.

Always on GPRS:

Yes I am utilizing this hack and I am sure it eats up battery life, however my device is in a cradle all day when I am at my office and cradled when i sleep at night so I haven't had an issue with battery outages. If I leave it out of the cradle over night I am usually at around 60% in the morning.

SMS Delivery Notification:

I am not sure why that isn't working, that was the hack that I looked up for you guys. Mine is done through Tweaks2k2 so I am not sure what else to tell you guys, some searching in the Pocket PC forum or at xda developers might yield some results for yuo.

Programs on device vs. Storage card:

Software on your device will work much better than the ones you put on your storage card. My suggestion is any Today plugins or utility software you decide to install, put it on the device. Games and non crucial software throw on the Storage Card to save space.

Posted by: Alex301

Removal of programs:

I hope that you have found teh remove programs from the Settings folders. However this sometimes results in a can't completely remove. I have found that this is due to parts of the program still running even though you have closed it. Perform a soft reset, than run the uninstaller and it should work better.

Voice COmmand and BT headset

Yes there is a way to get this to work, it is a hack. Go to the Pocket PC forum here at HoFo and look in the sticky for Kjam Hacks, tips tricks, or something like that. I believe it should be in the first 10 pages or so.

Alex its hard to keep track of things.. where is the reg hack to have GPRS on always? Also, will it re-connect once a phone call ends?

I am trying to download a 10 meg file and I'm getting error message that I don't have enough storage to complete the download... I've previously downloaded similar size files and deleted them... I have a 512 card with a few small ringtones on it so space there shouldn't be a problem.... Can I change the download location? I can't find any setting's to do this...

Is the T-Mobile US Shipping ROM available anywhere as an executable like the other ROMs on XDA's FTP? I ask because the only one I've been able to find is just a bunch of archived files from a dump and not an easy to flash executable. If anyone has a link for this I'd greatly appreciate it.

Dword 0

That is my configuration, if this doesn't work than I am looking in the wrong place. Let me know.

shackk:

I am running a Qtek test ROM right now, the official release of this version from Imate and Qtek is supposedly in the next week or two. The main differences is that these include A2DP and AKU2.0. Also, from what I have seen, I have a higher version Radio ROM than the T-Mo USA. The other main difference is that my Extended ROM is much leaner than the one from T-Mo since it doesn't include all the customizations. Since I haven't had the opportunity to play with the T-Mo US ROM I can't speak to performance, but the one I am using is quicker than the previous 1.6.x ROM that I was using.

I have three little programs - toggle, on and off - they run and exit.

The "on" and "off" work - as they do on the SDA - but they're not perfect. Once "on" the transmission STAYS on until turned off, which isn't great - but its better than nothing.

Turn OFF the Contact Sync then turn it back on.

Its a bug in ActiveSync.

Mebbe I'm just lucky but it works without any hacks on my MDA with a Logitech Bluetooth Pro headset. Unfortunately it looks like this headset is no longer in production...

But, for me, all I have to do is hit the talk button on the headset and the Voice Command application opens. I hear the beep in the headset, speak the command and it connects.

As someone else said, you are running into a server that doesn't have its mime types setup properly. Download it to your pc and get it over via AS or mini sd.

I think with a device like this and us being early adopters, you can't expect it to work quite the way you want it right out of the box. But for me the customizability and tweakability of the device is one of the major draws. You have to expect bugs to come up but in the end I think it'll be worth it.

Yep. ActiveSync has done this since 4.0 with every device I've connected to it - it SAYS its syncing contacts, but actually does not unless you shut off the contacts in the sync options and then turn it back on. Once you do that it will "remember" and work correctly.

At first I thought it was a joke also. Good to know that sugar cubes may work better than Acetone (nail polish remover). I removed the logo on the t610 a long time ago with acetone, and it seemed fine. So both methods work.

Its fine by me I was just testing it...I will call up the store where I bought it and notify them of this for I was told "Don't worry everything used in the messengers (built in) are charged as data and since you have unlimited there should be no problem"

Like I said before I will try out IM+ and see how it is!

I purchased mine on Tuesday morning and have had no performance or usability issues. It is not fast, but I can deal with that. The only time I have had to reset are when making changes to the registry. I have installed about 4 apps with no problems.

Posted by: ShooBaDoop

Here's a small list of IM options that I've found. I just downloaded and tried out all three using the SmarterChild bot:

Packaged IM app. that comes installed -
Slow. Dog slow. Gets the job done, but, instead of interpreting HTML in messages, it just spits it out to the screen making IM messages very difficult to read. But, if you're a very patient person, it's good. This one *does* use up your text messages. So beware.

Agile Messenger -
Being as they don't have a WM5 version out yet, I downloaded the one for PPC 2003, I think. I'm hoping when they do finally release a WM5 version it will fix some of the problems I'm seeing. Switching to/fro landscape-portrait has some issues. Most of the time, in landscape view, it cuts off about 1/3 of the screen. This limits how much of the message you can read. Also, I noticed that the "status" on the Today screen seems to disappear and reappear randomly when switching landscape and portrait. The first time I ran it, several names didn't appear next to the icon in my Buddy List. However, if I tap and hold over the icon and select "Get User Info" it would tell me who it is. But I had to remove, readd, ask them to send me a message before the name would start showing up. Sometimes that messed up my Buddy List.

The IMs themselves deal with HTML better in the sense that it just doesn't show it. It doesn't handle carriage returns in an IM all that well. For example, when receiving an IM from SmarterChild, it should display each item (ie 1. News, 2. Weather, etc) on a separate line. Instead it jumbles them all together on one line, making it very difficult to read. The plus side is the graphics are better implemented, you can change your "status" for each IM service individually and you can change the sound of a new IM (in Sounds & Notifications).

IM+ -
$39.99 for an Instant Messaging program?!? C'mon! And the "Settings" sucks...only check boxes for the following: Sound alerts, Notifications, Send by Enter, Keep alive, Save history and Background mode. That's it! You can't change the sound alert sound. No option to vibrate. And the icons at the bottom of the screen must have been created in MS Paint by an 8-year old. IM+ also has the same problem with not displaying HTML and grouping separate lines together. The d-pad works like the Tab key; instead of scrolling up/down through the message box, it just tabs from one button to next.

On the upside, Agile Messenger and IM+ are both much faster than the packed IM app. in my testing and it's my understanding that they don't use up your text messages.

If AgileMobile would put a rush on releasing Agile Messenger for WM5, they could easily sweep the market...and not to mention it's free.

I still haven't decided which of the three I'm going to use until something better comes out. The first one is out just because of speed. But IM+ and Agile both suck at the moment.

Your mileage may vary.

Even then, making wild battery claims with out mentioning what your backlight level is set to, what your time out is set to, etc. is kind of silly.

Im at 85% after day's use (9a to 4p), ~ 20 minutes of phone time according to the log, checks exchange every 5, and some web browsing, backlight off @ 30 seconds, one notch away from powersave on the backlight setting, wifi off, bluetooth on, all 20 minutes with a bluetooth headset.

I ran into the same problem with those Dialpad Skins when I was running the T-Mo UK ROM. HEre is the fix for it in the registry.

1) HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Security\Phone\Skin\Dialer\Port rait\text\texcolor
2) Change Base to Hex
3) DWORD Date enter from Hex Color Chart

Follow the same steps for Landscape as well as for call in progress, forget the exact name for that key.

Here is a link to Hex Color Chart so you can choose which colors you want...

the backlight is set to the lowest it can be without it being off and to turn off after 30 seconds. Turn the device off if it has not been used for 1 minute. I do have active sync running every 5 minutes and I haven't done any web browsing.

I guess i just compare the device to a normal phone where after 5 hours if you sent and received about 50 texts you wouldn't have lost 25% of the battery

I ordered myself one from Fry's (outpost.com) over the weekend, and they notified me today that they will not have any in stock and available to be shipped until April 2nd.

newegg.com has one in stock. i just ordered this morning

Slow.

Is Agile still free? on thier site it says they charge...

How do I set the email client to delete messages from the POP server once they are retrieved? This is fairly standard functionality for a mail client, but couldn't find it anywhere.

Thanks for the help.

Tmobile CS has some of the worst replies by e-mail. I e-mailed them asking when Java would be supported as it was advertised on the site and in the product literature. I got this reply today (no changes have been made - this is really how they sent it to me - my last name is Louie not Loui haha)

"Dear Mr. Loui,

Thank you for taking the time to contact T-Mobile. We do apologize for the inconvenience.

When we advertise JAVA for teh device, by that we mean that you are able to browse JAVA enabled websites. This does not refer to JAVA applications. Third party applications are available for this device over at www.handango.com.

If you have more questions or concerns, please feel free to contact us at anytime or by calling us at 1-800-937-8997. Remember, you can always visit http://support.t-mobile.com for some excellent self help options.

Thank you for choosing T-Mobile, we appreciate your business. Have a great day!

Sincerely,

Frank"

hello

I was lucky enough to purchase an MDA on
tuesday and so far I really enjoying the device but I ran into a little issue and was hoping someone knew how to fix it.

I get a pop up box informing me that a running script is slowing down my machine and if I want to abort the script. I have noticed this so far when I am going through this forum.

how do I fix this issue so I do not run into this in the future?

not sure, but HoFo has known issues when being viewed wirelessly. You should check out the threads in the smartphone forum. that might help.

I found the answer... it gets deleted from the server when you clear it from the Deleted Items folder on the MDA.

Alex.. I've gotten mixed reviews from co-workers..everyone has the WOW factor..but there are actually people complaining its TOO big! It's a PDA.. not a Razr....ya know?

Posted by: Alex301

tgenius:

You made the point, it isn't a razr. I came from a Blackberry 8290 and that thing is a frisbee in my opinon. I personally have no porblem with the size. Fits perfectly in your pants pocket. It is lighter than I orginally thought it would be.

Once you get the device set up the way you want and you get familiar with using it I am a huge fan. So much a fan I am currently saving up for it's replacement due out later this year.

Edit: I can't stress this enough, once you have played around with all the software and settled on what you want to keep. Perform a hard reset to wipe it clean and install the keepers, you will get better performance that way.

Can someone please specify is this is true/false?

The reason why I'm going to return the phone today after using it for 5 days is that there is NO way to view in a list the time you have sent / received / missed calls. So if you miss a call and click "Missed Calls" from the home page, the phone will display a list of all calls you have missed with NO way to sort it based on most recent or oldest. So you have to guess which phone number from your list was missed. You can click on any number to see what time it was received but this can be unweildly in a list of 50 or so numbers. The same hair-pulling functionality also goes for the list of all calls as well. So painful.

Does this person not know what they're doing or is it true? I can't imagine it being true.

Also, does anyone know where I can see a picture taken with the SDA?

how do you manually get to the comm manager, like if you press the top left button? i want to change that button to 'ok' but i dont know how to get back to that manager without the button

Posted by: Alex301

goatcheese47

From the phone application select call history. All calls with an icon of a phone with a red exclamation point are missed calls. Green arrows up are sent and I believe yellow arrows down are answered. They should each list the time the call came in or went out. Furthermore, from this view you can select menu >> filter >> missed calls.

Hope this helps,

Alex

There is a smal icon for comm manager in the lower right corner of the today screen and/or you add assign comm manager to your start menu.

1) Check the SDA thread maybe?

Second, crazyness. You can view received, missed, and outgoing calls easily. And then you can filter them. And they show you when they came in with the most recent being on top. And you can store a huge **** ton of them too. ????????

Thank God I finally figured out how to copy mp3's from the card to the phone and use them as ring tones...I'm not sure if it was mentioned in this thread cause I didn't wanna look for it for hours, but if anyone is having trouble with it let me know.

What format did you use for the ringtones? .wav or .mp3?

Also, this is a bit picky, but I was looking at the little camera inside the glass and it appears to be off center, meaning the center of the lens isn't in the center of the protective glass piece. Anyone else's this way?

To save space much needed space on your device, you don't need to copy the mp3 to the rings folder. As long as the mp3 is in the root directory of your storage card you will be able to select it as your ringtone.

can I use that even if I dont have a VPN? Also, what link are you using to check speed?

Posted by: Alex301

deemota: I use the vpn because that is the internet plan I have, it is no different cost wise than your traditional internet plan. I actually don't need the vpn but that is what I ended up with.

You can check you speed at www.dslreports.com/mspeed. I get faster transfers with larger files, guess it needs to warm up, ha! The highest transfer I have seen (haven't run it that much) has een 196kbs.

This is bologna. The Java Midlet Manager is a standard inclusion in the WM5 distribution. Therefor, T-Mobile would have had to KNOWINGLY remove the files from ROM, IN ADDITION to making sure there were no registry entries for file assosiations, etc. The T-Mo engineers knew exactly what they were doing.

It never takes you to the letter you stopped on? Its how you can use your phone one handed and scroll through the contacts.

Also, I've switched to wap.voicestream.com so my MMS works. Google works ... sometimes. I start with google.com/xhtml and its a crap shoot.

Nope, it doesn't go to that letter. Am I supposed to activate an option? All my contacts are on SIM, maybe it only works for contacts stored on ROM.

Possibly so. For me I just scroll to the letter, let off and Im at the top of whatever letter I stopped on. If you are syncing to outlook, move those contacts off your poor old sim. You are effectively backing up every time you sync.

Overall my second and third days with my phone were better than the first - heightened by some quite long periods at work listening to the radio streamed over GPRS/Edge - sweet.

However when I get home to my WiFi network all isn't as well. My WLAN is Netgear based, 802.11b/g with WEP-128bit but what I experience is the following:

a) If I have a GRPS/Edge network connection or any app using the network at the time I enable WiFi I can never get a WiFi connection

b) I often get a message that I've assoicated with the access point, but not got an IP address. If I reenter my WEP key manually it usually connects in a few seconds.

c) I had a situation today where the connection manager wouldn't let me disconnect WiFi - I'd click on it and it would come back as still connected. Eventually I quit the CM and re-ran it and it said WiFi was disconnected. However when I checked the batter level a few hours later it was at 25% when it had been almost 100% before - I think WiFi was still on

a) and b) have been happening since I got the device - its REALLY frustratiing to keep re-entering the keep, especially since WM5 wont let me copy-paste it from a text file - doh!

c) was first noticed today and I have to admit last nigh I did the 802.11g hack and got it to work - I set my home AP to G-only and I could still connect. My bandwidth test didn't show any significant speed increase in network connection, however I was going out over the internet vs. doing a local d/load. I'm not convinced the G registry hack had any impact on the machine - but it was useful for me as I know quite a few APs are now in G-mode only (including my own until I got the MDA). Or could it be that there are bugs/power issues if you use G???

Posted by: moschops

I found a program AEButton Plus that let me re-map my device buttons - in particular I was able to make double-click of the top-left email button bring up the Windows menu - great stuff. I discovered two problems with AEButton Plus:

a) this s/w needs registering after 14 days
b) it nukes the conneciton manager button until you hard restart.

a) wouldn't be a problem - I think you should pay something reasonable if you think its worth it, but if you don't you should be able to uninstall have the machine returned to normal. Since mine has already zapped the CM button I had to use its own functionality to remap a double click of the top-right IE button to fire up CM. When the demo license expires I'll probably have to hard-reset - boo!

So just a warning - please be careful if you try AE Button Plus - you may loose button funcationaity. Fortunately for me even though my CM button no longer works as expected, if I hold it down for a while it puts the phone into vibrate mode as before so at least is not COMPLETELY broken.

YMMV!!!!

Just add it as a DWord and give it a value of 1. I believe the hardware for all of these phones is the same.

If it helps I did this and have had no adverse effects from adding the registry key

Here are a couple of quotes from their press release concerning cost:

Quote:
Starting July 2005 we will begin charging a small monthly license fee for the use of Agile Messenger.

Quote:
The date that we start billing will be different for different countries, again depending on our agreement with the mobile operators, but for most users the billing will start within the coming two weeks.

Quote:
Alternatively you may purchase the software for a one time fee of $19.95 with your credit card by clicking here

As of right now, I haven't seen any notice to pay for it and it's still available on their website as a free download. However, if they do begin charging T-Mobile US customers, the $19.95 is still $20.00 cheaper than IM+, which is a lot less feature-rich and has a worse user interface.

I don't work for them, so I can't give you any more detailed information than that.

Damn it must just be me. I still can't get Active Sync to work. Nothing works, I've uninstalled and reinstalled about 5 times. Reinstalled Outlook as well. Do I need a memory card to sync? I still have yet to sync. I have all the requirements on my PC. Nothing seems to be working. If I can't get this to work tonight, it goes back to T-Mobile on Monday...Active sync keeps running and running but nothing is copying over, its not syncing. It runs for about 5-10 mins and gives an error. I used 2 different data cables/USBs as well. I'm fed up and at a loss...someone talk me out of having to call Microsoft for this issue.

Try this:
Uninstall any previous PDA syncing software
Uninstall Activesync
Reboot Computer
Turn off firewalls
Disable virus software
Disable antispyware software
Reinstall Active Sync - DO NOT plug in the MDA until it tells you to.

This worked for me. I have hundreds of contacts, and tasks so the first time it took 4 hours to sync, but sunsequent syncs took minutes.

I'll do this today when I get out of work. What a pain. Thanks, I did some of this last night, of course not in that particular order. When I had my HP 6315 and my SX66 PPC active synce was a breeze. I wonder if its just windows mobile 5?

Google local also works for me, but not sat maps. cant get e-mail to work thorugh outlook, but web access works.

Now i just gotta find a decent browser as IE is pretty bad.

Battery:

Okay, something is seriously wrong with my battery. I left the house at 9:15am with a full battery, fresh off the charger. I've made one phone call and thats it, my battery is now at 65%.

WTF!?!?!

my backlight is set to near nothing, i've got the screen to go off in 30 seconds.. so i dunno wtf is going on with it.

So I loaded up the Pocket PC 2002 edition of agilemobile onto my MDA... works ok, but i'm having trouble having it reconnect automatically after a phone call.

On the SK2, it'd dropped the G and reconnect automatically on the background but on the agilemobile... it either has trouble connecting when i do it manually or it just does not connect and sits disconnected to AOL AIM.

Is this just something I need to deal with since it's not the WM5 version (not yet released) or is anyone else out there having better luck than I with a tweak or something?

i am having a different problem with ActiveSync. I am having the problem where it does not sync. To put anything I have to go into the file explorer. But what i am having problems with is that ActiveSync is always on in my phone. I close it and a few secs later it starts up again. Anyone have any ideaS?

how do i get agile mobile to function like aol IM on Sk2?

If i'm logged onto agile aol, i get a phone call, it disconnects just like on sk2. yet sk2 reconnects nicely in teh background the agile either stays disconnected or sometimes reconnects automatically.

i got pocket pc 2002 installed since wm5 is not avail. is anyone else running into the same issue or is this just expected since it's not the wm5 version?

Not sure what is causing the drain. i would do a soft reset and see if that doesn't correct it. If not maybe we can figure something out.

Who made the switch from the SK2 to the MDA?? I just bought my MDA yesterday and noticed that I don't get better reception at home than I do with the SK2. Is anyone else experiencing worse reception that what they previously had??

Posted by: SAVAGE WAYZ

Also, does it matter which SIM card I use? I first started with the one that came with the MDA, then switched to the one from my SK2 just to see if it made any difference.

Can anyone help me out with a AIM program, the 1 on the MDA is slow

Posted by: Alex301

Owens:

AIM alternatives has been discussed at length already. If you have issues with a specific alternative than please be more specific. And yes we all know the included AIM app is terrible.

Does anyone know if there is a hack to set the block recognizer as the default input method?

I'm having the same issue but am not sure if it is suppose to do this or not. I have tried to go into the "schedule" setting of ActiveSync but it is not highlighted for some reason. I'm wondering if this drains the battery?? Any help?

My thoughts on the Tmo Rom are that it is very slow (compared to my KJam) out of the box and very quirky. Certain programs come right up but others, that come preinstalled on the device take about 5-15 sec to open and if you attempt to do something while the program is opening then the device locks up and a soft reset is required. Other items such as changing sounds/notifications is also slower than the original kjam rom as well. Overall it works but not anywhere near as fast as it could.

I have not been able to test many programs as I am waiting for my sd card, but the mozilla browser seems very slow, pie is ok but does not allow rendering of some wap sites like hofo (this has been discussed but i am unaware of a fix). Agile works, again as stated the included aim app does charge for sms, and agile uses data. The way you start up the program (landscape or portrait) is the way it will stay viewing wise otherwise you will see a blackout on your screen, but until a new version comes out this suits me just fine and it is quick enough for me.

This is short I dont have a lot of time to write a longer review but if you have questions postem and I can try to answer, but imho I am dumping this rom as soon as the new imate/qtek one is released as I do not see this one getting any better even with the hacks I have added. The device itself I am still very pleased with and wont be ditching it anytime soon.
