"cingular" treo 650

I bought a phone off ebay a few days ago. It has arrived and is a Cingular Treo 650. It has "Cingular" and the orange cingular logo on the front - has a nice cingular logo when turning the phone on, etc...

However....

When I stuck my 64k Cingular SIM in it - it gave the message "this phone is not compatible with this SIM" - as if it were SIM locked. So I called cingular tech support and got the unlock code for the phone and unlocked it. It then worked with my cingular SIM - but it now flashes "Cingular/Roaming" in the top left corner and caller ID doesn't work when people call me.

this all seems very strange. does anyone have any idea what could be going on? i guess i mainly want caller id to work - but i'm puzzled as to why it thinks its roaming and is acting like its a non-cingular phone when it obviously is...

it might be you have an old 32K sim card. look at the card and make sure it is at least a 64K or 3G sim. if it's not, just go to a store and have it swapped out.

Check to see if you have Network Selection available in your phone mode. If so, then your using a 32 or 64K NON G card.

its a 3g sim. where do i find network selection on a treo 650?

Looks like its locked to ATT. You will need to unlock it. Your SIM wouldnt matter; 8k, 16k, 32,64, 3g etc... all work the same in that phone.

Your SIM would matter if you want Network Selection capabities without ROM overlay !
