RAZR V3 + TMO --- can't get google local to work?

Hello,

I recently purchased an unbranded Motorola RAZR v3, which replaces my Sony Ericsson T637 (which died). I am happy with the RAZR, so far and have managed to set the email client to work with my servers (despite having been told by t-mobile that this cannot be done).

I downloaded the google maps program and installed it on my RAZR. Google maps starts up but it cannot seem to find a data connection. This is what happens when I start up the google local program:

It asks me "Use Data Network?" To which I reply: "Yes ask once" and click ok.

I then get the screen that says "Loading" and it seems to try and load indefinitely. Until it sends me to a screen that says:

"Network Unavailable" and "Download maps & info depends on a network connection. Do you have a data plan? How's your reception? This program will retry automatically"

I do have the t-zones service on my plan, but apparently I need to do some additional configuring ...

As an experiment I downloaded the opera mini browser onto the machine and it can't find a data connection either. I have t-zones but apparently I need to do some additional tweaking to make this happen.

Any advice? Any how to links?

Sounds to me like your TMo data settings aren't right. I just picked up my V3i and did the OTA for WAP TMo settings. Was able to connect and downloaded, installed Google Local and Opera Mini. Both work just fine. I'd suggest taking a look at your Web Sessions and make sure TMo is set to default or maybe there's a mistake if you manually added your data connection.

Go to the T-Mobile settings configurator page at https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/cli...US/ota_support/ to get an OTA update for the gprs settings.

Then you need to copy the "T-Zones GPRS" websession to a session named "Java Session" then change the settings in that session from WAP to HTTP and the port from 9201 to 8080.

Didn't work ...

Nevermind — on the second try it DID work! Thanks!

But only in opera mini, not on google local. What a pain.

Did you try removing Google local and reinstalling now? Perhaps that will do the trick.

Yeah, tried that, no dice. I think I need to get TMO on the phone, though I have little faith that will bear fruit.

Google local now states on their web page that it does not work with TMobile. Which was weird because I was able to get it working ONCE right when it came out, then it stopped working a few days later and never worked since.

This makes no sense. Still works fine on my V3i.

Google local works flawlessly on my T-mobile branded RAZR v3. Same with Opera Mini. No problems at all with T-mobile network.

Yeah, must be a problem with your phone, or your settings are screwed. Make sure you Have T Zones GPRS selected as Default in Web Sessions.

Yep. T Zones GPRS is the default.

Well, I had to reflash my phone last night since I hosed it tweaking a skin. Just downloaded and reinstalled Google Local and it works fine. Not sure what the problem is. Are you sure you selected the Razr V3 when downloading? Not trying to be funny....

The problem with TMobile is, tmobile branded phones don't have a java web session, so no java programs can access the web. The web sessions menu is also disabled, so its not easy to access that to change the settings. I havn't put much effort into enabling the web session menu on my phone (v330). I tried a web session file from the net that said it had working opera, but that didn't work. Hasn't really been an issue to me....

I suppose that would be correct....My TMo branded Razr was hacked by me to include the Web Sessions menu....Perhaps that's why it worked on mine. Dont remember, but perhaps that's the fix for you. Enable your Web Sessions menu so that you can tweak your settings. It's worth a shot!

I do not have a TMO branded RAZR, my razr is unlocked and has the web sessions menu.
