VX9800 - Can't get BitPim (OSX) to work via Bluetooth

I have search the internet and these forums extensively for an answer to this and I have been unsuccessful.
I have BitPim Version 0.8.07 running in OS 10.3.9. I want to use bitpim with my built in Bluetooth connection on the powerbook.
I have been able to use the 9800 as a modem via the bluetooth connection, so I know that part of it is working.
I set BitPim's preferences to the phone type of "VX9800" and I set the com port to "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-PDA-Sync" the only other port that is listed is "/dev/cu.Bluetooth-Modem." I know the latter is the one that is used when I connect the phone as a modem because that port becomes unavailable when I use the phone to dial into the internet.
I have paired the phone with the bluetooth settings in the powerbook, and I have enabled a port on the 9800.
The forums "Newbie Guide " reports that all that will work for the 9800 is the filesystem tab. When bitpim tries to read the filesystem it returns the error of "failed to read filesystem" in the log.
During the time it tries to read the filesystem the log reports continuous timeouts as the phone tries different port speeds.

Can anyone help me with this? I have been working on it for days now.
Thank you in advance.
