razr v3 problem

well ive since got a new razr for free from t mobile ,but i am curious what caused it i had a razr v3 and the inbox, outbox videos, aim, were all missing i tried fixing it with P2K menu but no luck does anyone know what caused this so it doesnt happen to me again? T-Mobile got me a new one for free (it was under warranty) so its all good
