what's the difference between prepaid, pay as you go, and any other similar options? im on cingular and i'm staying on it but i've been using my friend's sidekick sometimes and i really like it so i kinda wanna get one, but without having to sign up a real contract with t-mobile. all i want it for is the aim, i have another phone for making calls if it'll cost extra and the internet is too slow to really use anyway. thanks

well prepaid for the sidekick is a dollar a day for unlimited data usage (Aim, Internet, Texts) and for minutes its .20 for each minute but that gets deducted from the one dollar u already pay each day. When u have to little money or none at all in ur prepaid account, tmo shuts off internet usage (but u can still use texts) until u refill. Simple.

do you have to sign up for a certain amount of time, or could you buy a sidekick on ebay, take it in and tell them you want say $30 worth on it and use it for a month just for the aim and internet?

Posted by: phillyslickster

You can sign up for as much money on it as you. If you bought a sidekick from ebay, then you would go to tmobile and tell them you want to sign up for tmobile to go for the sidekick and tmobile would set you up then and there. You have the option of purchasing the cards to up load more money on your tmobile to go account or you can use your credit card, debit card, or checking account to add money to your account online or via your phone.

Prepaid service for the sidekick is $1 per day. Additional charges for games, ringtones, applications, voice calls will be extra. Yet, you said that you'd use your Cingular phone for the voice calls.

ok i got you, so basically $1 a day. is that a flat rate or can you prepay a few months in advance and get a discount?

Posted by: phillyslickster

There's no discount. You can get bonus minutes up to $100. Check the tmobile website for how the bonus minutes work.

The only discount you get is if you sign up for a voice plan, then the unlimited data plan will be $20.

To my knowing, there's no discounts for paying in advance with prepaid.

if unlimited data is $20 a month and i already know prepaid would come out to $30 a month, i might do that instead. i'll have to look into the absolute cheapest plan they have and get that

Posted by: phillyslickster

Mind you unlimited data is $20 per month with a voice plan only and this is for a postpaid account. Unlimited data only on a postpaid plan is $30 per month. Prepaid unlimited data only is essentially $30 per month ($1 per day).

i tried going to the tmobile site to look at the plans but it's really slow, do you have any idea what the cheapest plan they have is, including unlimited data? if it's fairly inexpensive i might as well just do that if i'm thinking about paying 30 a month anyway

i have the prepaid its pretty damn good! i dont want to get suckered for a year and i got a kick from a friend for free

Posted by: phillyslickster

If you're just going to use the sidekick for data only, then prepaid is good since it's the same price as postpaid. If you're going to be using it for voice calls as well, then prepaid is expensive. That's your choice to spend your money as you choose if you don't want a contract.

Prepaid Sidekick 2 service is $1 per day for unlimited data. Voice calls are .15 per minute. Service is valid for 60 days and extended with purchased minutes. $10, $25, and $50 cards can be bought via any Wal-Mart. T-Mobile's "Gold Rewards" bonus minutes and extended expiration periods do not apply to prepaid Sidekick users. What you put into it is all that you get. Many users have reported not being charged for days when their units are turned off.

Sidekick 2 web browsing is definitely not broadband, but not horribly slow. Most sites load within 10-15 seconds. The Sidekick 2.3 firmware update speeds things up considerably. You'll get this update within a few minutes after registering your Sidekick 2 if it doesn't have it already installed.

it seems like alot of people are saying this. is it just the lucky people that dont get charged for the turned off SKs or is it customary for every customer. this may just be the sign of getting myself an SK,,,,,, 3 of course.

i have a question... is it $1 a day if you use it, like with boost's walkie-talkie, where if you don't use it you don't pay, or is it $1 a day no matter what?

Posted by: BabyIverson03

matter what

It has worked like this for me: If the SK2 is on, you get charged if you use the data or not. If you turn it off, after 24 hours of being off, it stops charging the $1 until I turn it back on. I have noticed when I unlock the screen in the morning, it sends data, so it is sending something back to Tmobile saying "charge me $1" I am thinking about using the Sk2.

ok, thanks. that cleared it up for me.

So what happens when you want to buy an application on your sidekick? How does it get paid for? Do the dollars get taken off your card?

Posted by: phillyslickster

It just subtracts the fee from the amount you have on your phone whether it is a card or if you've put money on it using an electronic check or credit card.

Posted by: gen04

Oh well thats cool. Do you miss out on anything when you choose prepaid over a contract? Are there advantages for having a contract?

Posted by: Chaoss

If you have a $0 balance, is anyone still able to download apps (not the free ones) without being charged?
