STUPIFIED!!! V635 / Cingular Service Problem - HELP

I had an unlocked Motorola V180 and I dropped it in the toilet 2 times, so it was a little messed up. After some time, it came back, but in certain areas, such as my bedroom, the phone would go from a full amount of bars to none at all and stay that way for long periods of time. I live in a full service area, it never happened before that I know of. So, I just ordered an unlocked V635 - however, upon opening it, I realized it was a British one because of the English spelling on the phone and manual, as well as the charger. I put my SIM (which is an AT&T one because we signed up with them before they merged or whatever happened between them and Cingular) in and it does the same exact thing! I couldn't believe it; it's a brand new phone. I said to myself: "the only thing that's the same from the older phone in the V635 is my SIM, and maybe it's damaged?" I tried 2 other AT&T SIM's on the same contract as mine, and it still occured, while their phones had my SIM inside and they had full service in the same area, while I had NONE. So, the SIM isn't my problem. Cingular told me it's the phone; they said it's because it's an unlocked phone it has trouble switching between towers if in an area where more than one towers are available. This could be correct, but I don't see how it's possible, because before dropping the V180 in the toilet, it never occured before (and the V180 was also unlocked). So, what is the problem? How do I fix it? I checked all the network options and all that on the phone, and nothing. Could it be because it's a British unlocked phone? Would having one made specifically for the U.S. be the solution? Please help quickly, this is annoying the HELL out of me and I really, really can't afford to lose days without my cell phone.

Thank You.

Did U try setting the network speed?? Do this..Menu/Settings/Network/Network Setup.... Change the Band to 850/1900 or automatic. Set The type to automatic and change speed to continous. Maybe this will help u.

For starters.... you need to flash your v635. That will solve most of your problems.

With cingular, you have to have certain network options available or like Cingular said... it won't switch towers properly. The V635 Yager MP has this enabled by default. Setting your network search faster could help, as previously stated.

All V635's are gonna be foreign. They won't be available in the US for a few months i hear. Cingular (as well as anyone) will blame the phone in this case, because they do not warrant the phone, or even know what the phone is most of the time.

I have cingular, and it works great. Update that nasty flash.

How and where do I get the flash and make it work?

And the V635 isn't out in the U.S. as of yet? So there's no actual U.S. version of it? Does it mean everyone's V635 spells the English the British way or is it just mine? Can I fix it to American English with any software?

Thanks.
