Yes, I know this is a TMobile phone, but it's a good deal for those wanting a new phone, or back-up phone without a contract. I've bought 3 of these and had no problems unlocking them or setting up Cingular's internet and MMS services. Just be sure to check the manufacture date as the older ones were giving problems with code unlocking. The ones I have bought were made in 11/05 and 12/05.

Note: Check the HowardForums Marketplace for unlocking services.

Wirelessly posted (SAMSUNG-SGH-D600E/1.0 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1 UP.Browser/6.2.3.3.c.1.101 (GUI) MMP/2.0 UP.Link/6.3.0.0.0)

Thanks for the info

Text messaging will work right out of the box, no set-up necessary.
MMS is MultiMedia Messaging, pictures, files, etc.

The manufacture date is printed on the back of the packaging that the phone comes in, so you can check it before you purchase. I don't have a solid answer on what date is too old, but the dates I posted unlocked with code fine for me. Target sells a lot of these, so I don't think you'll have a problem finding a current date. The problem will be finding a Target that has them in stock at this price.

Just thought I'd add a note, these phones are on sale until Saturday 2/25/06.

i've heard that changing browser (WAP) settings on this phone is a pain. any truth to this?

My only problem with buying those prepaid phones in those plastic, impossible-to-open-without-a-boxcutter containers? You can't physically inspect the phone (kick the tires) without opening one up beforehand.

I'm assuming the Target 6101's come in those packages, right?

Not a pain at all, just go here to send the internet and MMS settings to your phone: https://secure.mouse2mobile.com/clients/nokia/americas/

Yes, the 6101's do come in those impossible to open packs. But, the Target here in my town didn't give me any problems when I took 2 of them back for exchange. The first one I had used for over a month.

why did you need to take 2 of them back for exchange?

btw, bestbuy was VERY reluctant to exchange a nokia verizon togo phone that went belly up in the first day. just a heads up. they said that their new policy is to direct all mobil phone returns and exchanges to nokia service dept.

The first one started freezing up and giving me the WSOD (white screen of death). As I said, I had this one over a month and Target exchanged it no problem.

The second one had a bad speaker phone speaker. Even my mp3 tones sounded awful. I took it back the next day.

I've had the third one for about 2 weeks now, and so far no issues.

Be sure to use a screen protector with this phone. The center navigation key will leave an impression on your main screen.

Man, sounds like that phone has reliablity issues. Is it a nokia or a benQ?

Where do you get screen protectors?

Posted by: co678

I saw this deal yesterday while doing research for a friend on pre-paid services. Isn't the regular price like $129 or so? Quite a savings. If I didn't want a laptop so bad, I'd use my rebate cards to buy one. Sigh.
