Sync doesn't always connect

I have a Treo 650 and probably 40% of the time I go to sync (pressing either the button on the cable or the sync button on the screen), the Treo will start, but nothing happens on my computer. I then cancel, unplug everything, and try again and it usually works.

I've tried 2 different cables, and can sync via bluetooth. While bluetooth always works, its amazingly slow (I sync a lot of documents as well).

Not sure what's the problem, as pressing the sync button on the cable does start the process on the Treo, so I think that means the problem is cable to my computer.

I'm using XP Pro.

Thoughts?

I have had the recently, but noticed that my hotsync manager on my desktop was closed. If I make sure it is open and sitting in my tray than I have had no issues. Not sure if this is the answer, but something to look at. I just end up hitting cancel on the 650 and redo.
