XP won't detect e815 with new USB Data Cable...

[Apology:: I've been searching, but my search terms are so basic, that I'm not finding anything applicable... So I deeply apologize if (and more than likely) this has been discussed... Sorry...]

OK... Here goes...

Got 2 Motorolla e815's about 6 months, to a year ago... On the premise that we were going to hack them... Went on a wild goose hunt for a data cable, but none could be found... So we've just been using the phones "as-is"...

Well... Today, I just put my wife on a plane for L.A. (gona be gone on business for a week)... And allready feeling as if we had just broken up... (We didn't, but the feeling of "loosing her" is there...)

Being a Gemini/Leo, I don't do well being alone... So, while trying to find some good projects to keep me busy, I made a few calls and found the USB Data Cable (from the Verizon Mobile Office Kit)...

Got home, and happy as hell to finally get to hack my phone, I started following the instructions from the following thread -->> "E815 Quick start guide to hacking & PC configuration Updated 7.17.05 (Final Revision)"

I got as far as "STEP 1"... (sigh)

I plugged in the USB Data Cable to a XP SP2 (and current updates) machine, and... Nothing...

Tried every other USB port... Nothing...

Tried it with the phone (ON, Off, and half ON//Boot Motorolla screen)... Nothing...

OK... I know... I know... "I SUCK...!!!"

But I am just wondering if I'm doing something wrong, or if I'm just too late to the game... Such that I have finally gotten a USB Data Cable that was engineered NOT to work with the e815...

I bought the cable designed for the v710 (as they wont sell anything if you say it's for the e 815)...

Does anybody have any ideas...?? Or could anybody point me in the right direction...?? Am I an idiot, or just a complete Jack-***...??

Any way... Any help would make my life SOOOOooo much easier right now...

Thanks in advance...!!!

I don't think you are the Lone Ranger here. I'm having the same problem.
I contacted Motorla support because I couldn't get my phone detected as a E-815 in XP.
I'm running XP Pro with SP2. If you power up your phone and connect
the USB cable without doing anything as far as software, the phone should
still show in Device Manager as a unknown device. I tried mine on
2 different phones and 2 different PCs. The place where I got my cable
and software is sending me another cable. The software should be updated
to 4.0.4b. I got that that from Motorla support. If I can't get this cable to work I'm going to get a Dlink DBT-120 and use that with the Bluetooth
feature of the e-815. I got this info at bvrpforums.com. There is a thread
there with the same problem. Good Luck

Heheheh... Well, that's somewhat comforting...

Turns out, it was just an issue of "contact connection"...

I ended up getting the phone replaced today (due to my hosing of a Banner Seem)...

The cable would fit in perfectly, but the SLIGHTEST movement (up/down) of the Data Cable would knock it off line...

Unfortunately, I got it to work, and proceeded to kill my phone...

Went into the shop and got it swapped out, but comes stock with the new Firmware, which SERIOUSLY crippled it ability to transfer files with MPT...

Re-flashed back to OEM Firmware, and am moving forward VERY CAUTIOUSLY...

I just wish I could find a compiled list of seem edit values, instead of trying to read 99+ pages (spanning 1+ years), just to find out what is possible...

At any rate, I've got a LOT of homework to do on this subject before doing much more to my phone... But right now, I've got to take my dog out to the bathroom...

Thanks for the "Love", Bro...!!!

I just hope my wife gets back into town soon, before I end up breaking the microwave too...
