Hey franomania,

There's a "Search" link at the top left of the forum - it works pretty good. But if you want to put real MP3s on your phone for free, you'll need to buy a copy of "Motorola Phone Tools" - I think it runs about $20. And then you'll need a USB-to-mini-USB cable to connect your Razr to your computer, and you should be good to go!

The v3 won't fit more than MAYBE 1 full song in mp3 format. With MPT, you can make ringtones for the phone, you can fit quite a few ringtones, just not full songs.

yea i know it wont...i just wanted it long enough for a ringtone. Damn so theres nowhere to download the mpt software? and also another idea....found a site mobile17.smashworld.com said you upload your song, how long you want it to run for and they send it to you. I tried this but then i had to open up my browser and download it from the internet. How much would this cost for a 20 second mp3 to download?

The MPT software is from Motorola - it comes with some new phones, but it can also be purchased. Downloading it still costs money unless you pirate it, which we won't talk about here.

You can use MPT to cut the MP3s into ringtone-sized pieces, or you can use the free (open-source) Audacity software.

What about that site sending idea? will it cost alot to download a 20 sec mp3 off my phones browser?

Depends on your wireless provider's rates. If you're paying 5 cents/KB, for example:

(Assume a typical 20-second MP3 is 300 KB):

300 KB * 0.05$/KB = $15

Just an example, but you get the idea. It'd cost you $5-$10 more for the software to do it, and then you can do as many as you'd like.

damn that idea is out the window...i was just browsing around...where did u find the software for 20 bucks? i was on a site and the software was $79 :S

Try ebay. I got my copy for ~ $14 including shipping. Also, for the cable, any mini-USB cable will do - you don't have to buy a dedicated cable. I have mini-USB cables for my digital camera and my MP3 player and both work great for the phones.

In Canada the cd is $49.95, or $59.95 with cable. If you already have a cable for that, then you can download/buy from the US web page for $29.99 USD.

alright. but other than that theres no other way to upload stuff onto your phone...i.e. skins, wallpaper, ringtones?

Try plugging into a different USB port on your computer - my laptop only recognizes it on certain ports.

While you are installing and it seems like it is not finding the phone open it up and push a couple buttons. This will send a signal to the PC. Basically if the phone is not lit up the PC will not be able to connect to it as it thinks it is off.

still no difference...i plugged it into all 8 of the usb ports and always had the phone lit up and it still takes forever. I dont know why but its really annoying that this wont work.

I think your phone needs to be unlocked for you to be able to use the mobile PhoneTools software.

Mine is unlocked and it is doing the same thing...

yes, you can. I use an Ambicom dongle and the Widcomm drivers that came with it. Works like a charm
