BUMP!!! i would like to know also... i have had a sidekick2 before. and it was pretty good. but i have woundered about the blackberry and treo myself.
there isnt any unlimited plans for 30.00 for either of the two like the sidekick has is there??? also i wounder how the internet browser and AIM is on both of them compared to the sidekicks...

I honestly cant tell you about any unlimited plans since I'm using a treo 650 on cingular (Well my internet is unlimited
), but my biggest complaint about the treo is that the buttons are a little small. Im using snapper mail because the included client doesn't like my email server for some reason. I'm really liking Opera Mini and my EDGE speed though.
As for IM, for some reason verichat signs me off AIM when my screen turns off ( I REALLY HATE IT) but from what I remember there is a free app for AIM that didn't do that.
---EDIT--- I think the app was toccer.
Im seriously considering switching to my e398 full time for my phone and getting a sidekick just for txt/data/IM because it is a bit cheaper and is truly unlimited (2500 txts for $20/mo sucks)

A review I wrote in June '05 differentiating the SK2 and the Treo650 - http://www.hiptop.com/forums/viewto...0168&highlight=

A "review", or rather, a personal comparison, made this week on treocentral.com to someone who posted a thread about sk vs treo:

I went looking for a functional phone/pda and I must admit that the hiptop2/sidekick2 is easy to use, works well as an organizer and the im capabilities are easy to use and fun. I am a YMCA Camp Director and it is a great way to stay in touch with staff during the year.

coming from someone who has owned both(currently have a treo 650) i would ahve to say if you don't need it for the internet, get the sk2.
the keypad on the treo is just too small, and it makes messaging somewhat annoying. the internet is way better on the treo, but if that isnt a concern i would definatly say get a sk2..plus you dont need to pay 30 dollars for the program.

I have had the Sk2, Blackberry 8700, Treo 650, Nokia 9300, and now I'm using an HTC Wizard (kjam, qtek9100, etc).
I still think the sidekick was the easiest to use right out of the box, and was great at what it is advertised for. The thing that really killed me was paying for everything I wanted to put on there and no bluetooth. Other than that, even with the low memory, it was still a decent web browser, and push email device. It also has the best AIM and Yahoo client I have ever seen in any mobile device. I still have my Sk2 mister cartoon and I never plan on selling it. I will most likely get a sk3 when it is finally available.

I am a multi-device user, and time and time again, I find myself using the SK2 more. I have a PPC-6601, GREAT big screen, Treo 650, and of course the SK2. AIM/Yahoo, HANDS down, the best. Internet, depends, SK2 is slooooooooow BUT reliable as far as page rendering. It's always YMMV type situation. I think ibooyaka said it nicely, SK2 is terrific out of the box and is a stable fone. PPC / Palm fones are less so... apps want to fight for resources and just corrupt overall usablibity. But, if you know what you're doing with those fones, they ARE powerhouses and offer much more.

I have gone through 6 sidekicks (yaaay!) and keep going back to it because of its ease of use. PDA phones match it in organization, kill it in options (software and hardware), and usually beat the bloody remains on reliability (network in the SE goes out an average of twice a week for periods of time).
What the SK has going for it though is a absurdly fast UI, great keypad, and good messaging abilities (when the network works). Everything works out of the box. If you pay for you PDA software, then you will notice that the prices for SK software is a small fraction of the cost you will rack up to get the PDA just right. Plus it's freakishly easy to ditch the darn thing, change your mind and have everything back just the way you liked it.
A lot of my small business friends use the SK for this reason. I will probably pick up my 7th SKII when the SK3 is announced and then sneak in on some "upgrade" goodness.

I had a treo, sold it and got an SK2 and would never go back. For email/IM the SK2 kicks the Treo's butt. Only thing is you can't use MSN messenger on the SK2, that aside, the keypad is so much better and easier to use.
