if you have a bluetooth dongle you can by doing reverse dun i use it works great

You should give us a lil' tutorial so that we may all share in the holy goodness of the reverse DUN.

Here is what you _should_ use for Reverse BT DUN..

http://www.softick.com/ppp/

Instructions are on the site.. its $24.95 to register the softick PPP software.

You do not NEED this to make it work, others have gotten it to work without it, but this program (like PDANet) just makes it really easy.

By the way: it totally rocks!! Poor-mans WiFi

But, to clarify, you need to be within ~30 feet right? How is the range considering the 650's bluetooth?

Posted by: tgwaste

I bought two of these (one for work and one for home),
http://shop4.outpost.com/product/39...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

range is 100 meters (or about the length of a football field)
more than enough for my apartment and office building

hey tgwaste, after you get those installed, can you let us know what kind of range you really get? even though it states a range of 100m, real life conditions will probably shorten that distance quite a bit...

Posted by: har8z

thanks for the info guys

Posted by: dare_hawk

Well for the detailed instructions on how to get reverse BT DUN go here the instructions may be a little confusing but it works fine and also make sure tht the bluetooth dongle has the netowrking profile enabled.

http://blog.treonauts.com/2005/07/t...0_wifi_l_1.html

Also regarding the 100m range it will never give you that range the reason being the adapter is a Class 1 bluetooth device with a 100mW max power output whereas the treo 650 bluetooth is a Class 2 bluetooth device with a 2.5mW power output( if you made the treo a Class 1 device ...well god help you with the battery life :-) )so the max range is 10m ...30feet....so these 100m dongles will not give you any advantage unless you have a Class 1 device....kinda like the WiFi 802.11 b & g jargon both have to be the same in order to work on the higher feqency level and also on the higher bandwidth...i hope this helps

Posted by: tgwaste

You are correct.
After testing these the max range is 30 feet.
However it works really well and is a decent substitute for the
lack of wifi. having one at work and one at home is great as I spend
about 80% of my time at these two places.

nothing like being able to watch MobiTV while you work

take care all

Okay,

If you have a bluetooth adapter to access the internet, then how do you keep from having your treo access medianet to gain access to the internet. Then if it accesses medianet, then it goes against my account usage?

Posted by: tgwaste

prefs -> network -> you chose the network you want it to access.

yes, if it accesses medianet it goes against your account. I recommend
the $20 unlimited data medianet plan.

Posted by: khart214

with the adapter your talking about, how are the speeds accessing web pages.

Posted by: spartanman

All you guys need to do is dowload OReilly hacks for treo and palm from anywhere on the net and follow the instructions. you dont have to pay for anything in terms of software to allow you to connect through bluetooth.

Posted by: dare_hawk

hey guys just my twopence worth of info...i usually get about 500-700 kilobits per second depending how far away im frm the adapter...pretty fast.

The wifi sled mentioned is made by Enfora
