I wife just received her PINK RAZR from Cingular and it came UNLOCKED and NETWORK Selection enabled. Could it be that she received a REFURB and not a new one ? Everything looks brand new but.. could this happen ?

By the way, I inputted my sister's TMO SIM into my wife's phone and it worked so i know its unlocked...

It could happen since you mention it was a refurb - someone could of XBM the phone. They had the phone unlocked and edited the seems. Motorola did not refresh the software.

Chances are the phone came from another Hofo-er

I bought this unit as NEW from Cingular so it would be against the law for them to sell it to me as new when in fact its a refurb....

am i wrong on this ?

I read somewhere in these forums that the pink and blue ones were unlocked versions.

how do you find out whether your phone is locked or not without inserting a sim from another provider?

Uh, I have had Network selection on my past two razrs

I have Automatic , 850/1900, and 900/1800.

Does that mean mine is unlocked?

that's not network selection. network selection is being able to change the "search type" to "manual" and/or if you have the "New network" or "View networks" options on your network settings menu.

Having the ability to choose Network doesnt necessarily mean your phone is unlocked. Being able to choose network is different than being unlocked.

Wankel7's phone does indeed have Network select capabilities. In RAZR, those are the drop down list for choosing the surrounding networks.

Just because it is unlocked doesn't mean it is a refurb. The first batch of silver RAZRs were unlocked. Was this an upgrade or a new line/additional line? If she got the new 3G 64K Smartchip then it might have network selection on there just like others have been reporting with that SIM.

That is what I like about Sony Ericsson phones. If you do <**< you can see if your phone is unlocked or not. And it makes it easy to enter the unlock code because if it is locked and you go there and hit network it will ask you to put in the unlock code with out bothering to get another carriers SIM.
