Downgrade the V3 8.26 Bootloader, Version 2 by scotty2

Scotty2 8.26 bootloader downgrader version 2 for the Motorola V3
Please read this documentation carefully before beginning.

The programmer and designer of this program is scotty2. To make things easier and safer for modders he has made downgrading the bootloader a 1 step automatic process. It’s also safer because it doesn’t touch your PDS memory.

scotty2 is still a busy man and once again I had the privilege in assisting with the testing and the posting of this documentation. This automated bootloader downgrader is for the Motorola V3 with bootloader 8.26 version ONLY. Thanks again to scotty2, the program will downgrade to a modified version of bootloader 07.D0 which will operate correctly with your V3, no flip reverse. This is the ultimate bootloader, you don’t ever need to change the bootloader again.

You don’t need this program to downgrade other bootloader versions, 8.23 and lower. They can be downgraded by just flashing the new 07.D0 bootloader provided here. There are several reasons for downgrading the bootloader to 07.D0, such as full backups and restore of the phone or writing to the PDS.

For those who have the 8.23 bootloader or lower and those who have already downgraded the bootloader with version 1, you can download this new modified 07.D0 bootloader that works correctly on the V3. Be careful using the 07.D0 bootloader on your phone, you’ll be able to write and erase memory easily, which may get you in trouble if you’re not careful.

The following is a new freeware program, as with other programs that modify your phone’s memory there is always the risk of unforeseen circumstances causing damage to the phone. There is no guarantee this software will work correctly.

Use this downgrade program only “at your own risk”.

Please note that running this program will not repair the phone or downgrade the bootloader on a phone that has failed a downgrade attempt in version 1.

IMPORTANT: Before you begin, make sure your battery is FULLY CHARGED. Make sure that you have a good stable connection with your phone and the computer. If you’ve been having problems connecting to other software with your V3 then you should NOT run this downgrade program until those problems are resolved.

CAUTION: Close ALL programs before running the downgrader program and DO NOT use the computer or open any programs while the program is running, especially p2k programs.

Step 1: (it’s the only step)
Connect the V3 and run downgrader.exe

The process is completely automatic, just sit back don’t touch the computer and wait for the downgrader to perform the various programmed tasks. It took about 6 minutes to complete on my phone. The downgrader uses the phone’s firmware memory location, it will first backup the firmware and then at the end it will restore it. When the program ends you will have installed the new modified 07.D0 bootloader and the phone will be ready for use.

07.D0 BOOTLOADER NOTE: After you downgrade the V3 bootloader to 07.D0 the phone may not display the bootloader screen in flash mode correctly, it may be just a black screen. Don’t panic, this is normal and will not cause any problems in the operation of the phone.

My phone works fine, I added funlights, tweaked a couple minor things, gain table, etc.

a. what version of windows xp? sp1? sp2?
b. is the phone a V3?
c. did you run downgrader.exe in the same folder with the other files?
d. can you connect ok with programs like p2kman and p2ktools

this is a definite driver issue.
unfortunately, i couldn't tailor the program to work with a few odd situations, since obviously, i don't know about them all.
any further information would be great.

as far as i know, you're the only person on momo, hofo, and motox that has reported this yet =( i can't imagine what is causing it unless your drivers have a totally different interface than mine

so your saying a driver replacement will fix my problem? Is one of these the culprit or an all together different driver might be the problem?

hack360, I think you have the downgrader on the incorrect location. DOS programs dont let you use files that have a direction of more of 32 chars. You can try putting the files in c: directory and running again.

it's not a dos app, it's a windows app. just runs in a console.
it uses normal win32 api calls, so it shouldn't matter where you put it, as long as it's local to the files it needs.
his problem is my registry crawler is having trouble finding his driver, which i can't really understand why unless his doesn't work like mine does.

worked for me.. the first time it failed waiting for the phone, so i had to manually boot the phone in flash mode again and then it proceeded.

Worked for me with a v3 black, and later with a v3 pink!! But if a friend request me to downgrade the phone, I will say to he that the phone can dead, because at least 3 peoples in forums have killed the phone with this method.

They haven't posted here asking for help. You're thinking of the "old version", "version 2" can't kill your phone, the worst thing that could happen is that you might need to re-flash your firmware if your computer burps or your phone battery dies or the connection gets disrupted, etc.

I'm not saying the old version was unsafe but when used correctly it is safe, just one mistake in the entering of addresses or commands in ramldr could be a big problem.

Just keep the bootloader 07.D0, it works great. The monsterpacks don't contain the bootloader CG8, so don't worry about them changing your bootloader to 8.26. That's an incorrect reference to 8.26 bootloader, it should be to the "ram loader" not the bootloader.

I’ve run this on my new V3 from T-Mobile, and it changed it to 07.D0 Boot Loader, odd the boot loader screen is very dim,8.26 was very bright, but that’s the only thing I see different. Question, now that I have 07.D0 on there, how can I use that to unlock the phone, I’ve flashed it from the T-Mobile brand to unbranded using the monster pack below at Planet Motox

The boot flash mode screen is ok, it's noted in the instructions. As far as unlocking, you need to go to one of the V3 unlock threads for information. I do know the motorola_unlocker_2005 does not always work on the V3.

You can use the 8.23 bl but the 07.D0 bl is ok and better to use IMO, the bl version won't change the lock/unlock status of the phone in any way.

What did you do to make sure it was still lock? Put in a difference SIM, used TTC, or RadioComm to check the statues of the subsidy lock? and also did you deleted that PDS secure file?

Can you explain the theory behind? how do you create the exploitcg1.bin & exploitbootloader.bin? I am thinking whether we can apply the same method to downgrade the 08.A0 bootloader on V360.

Well, I took the plunge and did this today. My V3 (olderare, purchased when Cingular Blue first offered it) is now unlocked! My son's V3 (Cingular Orange; newer, apparently, not sure since I bought it from a co-worker for $40) isn't. I downgraded the BL but Moto Unlocker 2005 says it worked, but it still asks for the subsidy unlock code.

So, for Razr V3 phones that the Moto Unlocker 2005 doesn't appear to work on, is there any other app to try and use?

I notice that too, how did you check for the status? a difference sim, TTC or RadioComm?

Does your phone ask for the subsidy code or the sim code when you put in a difference sim card?

Enter Subsidy Code.

My V3 (which is older, like I said before) worked just fine and is now unlocked. So newer ones apparently don't work with Moto Unlocker 2005, which apparently has been explained by someone else as the providers are removing the original PDS from the phone, so motounlocker 2005 has nothign to revert to.

So now I'm wondering...can I take the original PDS from my phone, put it on my son's V3, and unlock it?

Ok, i tried this, but it was the first time my computer had detected my phone, so it asked for the drives to install for whatever the device was that is detected in bootloader mode. What are these drivers? I dont think the program will detect my phone until i get them installed.

nevermind, i got the drivers installed. After running this program, which went through every step fine and said done!, my phone still says boot loader is 8.26.

nevermind, i closed the program too fast. after messing up twice im suprised i didnt ruin my phone. good program.

Yes you need correct drivers they are all over the net and on my server. But another thing is I sucessfully ran it and no dice on the phone being unlocked.

Are you using a laptop computer with only one usb port? If so try using a hub. Other usb configurations may be a problem as well. You may need to re-install both usb and p2k drivers for a fix. Take a hard look at the devices you have on your usb ports and remove any suspects until fb works.

This same problem also occurs with the ramldr program, which explains some bricked phones in the downgrader version 1 program.

As long as you have a good backup you should definately be able to get the phone working again. You may have to use another computer if all else fails, but you'll get there.

I hope so . Trying another machine is a good idea as I am using my main machine not a laptop . But i will install in my laptop and try .. Thanks for your ideas....

Got the same problem as Hack360. So he is nto the only one experiencing phone connection failure with Scotty2's BL Downgrader version 2. Here are the line messages in Dos after running BL Downgrader:

"Waiting for phone ... Found!

Just wonder whether using a sim originally activated from a v330 in a Razr v3 would cause the "Waiting for phone ... Failed!

Double click on downgrader.exe, run the program in Windows from it's own folder, it's a win xp program. If you are running from windows and not DOS then your usb port and drivers need to be reconfigured. Another solution, try using another computer.

If you should get a failure and your phone seems dead, then just flash firmware to the phone to fix it.

"The filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect" problem was previously caused by a connection through a usb hub. Scotty2 BL Downgrader version 2 worked like a charm after switching to a direct connection to a usb port on the same computer. Thanks Motocat.

once the bootload is downgraded, can i unlock it? that the only answer i am in need of, i can save a bunch of money ($75) if i get a locked phone and unlock it myself. Does Moto unlocker 2005 work for newer v3s? can anyone confirm it
Also, what programs will be needed to make complete backups so incase the phone is bricked, i can restore it originally and try again.

You need FLashBackup 2.61 or grater to make Backups/Restores after you have downgraded the BL, and yes, you can unlock the phone (Don't ask me *HOW*).

I've tried on two computers to run the downgrader. It keeps opening a DOS window and say's:

GetPhoneStatus<> - unable to find and valid Interface

it's say's it over and over until the computer stops looking

I've tried to connect the phone while it's powered up in regular and flash mode. and I've tried to connect first then power it up in both modes.

Both computers I've used run XP.

Just got my son's replacement Razr V3. It's an XBM, and by the date code, it's the same as mine, except made in the USA (!) instead of China. Date code says last half of June 2005.

I ran the downgrader, no probs, just like every other time I've ran it. Ran the Moto Unlocker, and unfortunately, my Blue SIM still asks for the subsidy unlock code. Oh well, my son is Orange, so no big deal.

It's designed for the Motorola V3 phone only. Make sure that p2k programs such as rsd lite, mff and p2kman are able to connect to your V3 successfully before you try the downgrader again. If any of those programs fail to connect then you need to install the p2k drivers for the downgrader to operate. If you sill can't get a connection then possibly the USB ports may need re-configuring. Running the downgrader with an unstable connection could lead to big problems for your phone.

Exactly what he said ^^^^^^ But also make sure battery is fully charged. and that your phone is fully reconized by your computer.

I downloaded the p2k drivers and p2kman and they work (pretty cool) now at least my phone is recognized and it charges when it's connected to the computer, thanks.

Now when I run the downgrader, the DOS window comes up and say's

Waiting for phone...

I gave it a few minutes, several times over but the same thing keeps happening.

What is "fully" recognized? When I plug the phone in it automatically starts charging but doesn't pop up in my system tray.

and when I run p2kman (P2K Commander) it does recognize the phone and I can screw with the phone and file swap etc.

Does this mean my phone is fully recognized?

Before you open p2k commander what do you see and what phone exactly are you using just to be clear ?

Thanks for all your help. There was a problem with the installed drivers. I got rid of them powered down and started from scratch. I took a couple of times then it worked fine.

I do have a question with the software. When the downgrader ran, everything looked fine in the DOS window. Now, when I power up the phone in flash mode it still say's 8.26. Is this normal? Has my phone been downgraded? How can I verify the downgrade?

From what you say your phone isnt downgraded . Try again and lets see what happens.

I finally got it to work on my phone. Everything seems just to take a couple of times then a couple of delete/reinstalls before it works. I've dropped my phone a dozen times and the last time in water when It didn't work for a day and a half. Who knows? Thanks for helping me get this downgrade.

Ok, I did the bootloader. No take. Tried it again waited longer. It took, yayyy. Now what! The phone is still locked. The flash screen doesnt appear anymore, which iread is normal. So what are some benefits of my new bootloader?

Hi All! Here is my story. flash-flex with the latest stock/unlocked monsterpack. Good.
Then used scotty to downgrade from 8.26 to 7.D0. Good.
At this point, I used flashbackup2.61 to make a backup in case... the checkbox "select loader" was checked and backup went succesful.
Since I played in the flex to hack few fun thing, and got to the point I said I need to restore with my backup (Happy to have made one!).
So using again flashbackup2.61, and by default option "select loader" still check and I don't change it obviously. Started to restore, and started fine and then erasing BL and stuck after for many many minutes (~30). So i stop everything and could not get back to the BL, even try all possible ways to force BL and reflash-flex it, etc... wa now dead.

So question, did I use flashbackup well? should I always uncheck that option "select loader"?

Well for now the phone is returned to the repair. hopefully it won't discuss and repair it!

Also, I'm doing a friend phone (Not doing any of the flashbackup stuff) and I wondering if I should put back the BL 8.26 after unlocking it? I know some of you suggest to leave it as 7.D0 (What I will do for mine) but it should be safer for my friend?
And how do you put BL 8.26? I read that reflash-flex it won't change the BL!
You use ramldr for that? And talking about ramldr, to recover mine from a blank neptune lte.... I try using it but not easy to undertand how it works.. anything that explain how ramldr work to help me to understand what I'm doing..

It was a problem with your usb ports that did you in. when you get your phone back you may decide to try using flashbackup again for restoring your backups. If you use that same computer and usb port then you may erase the phone again, read this thread for more info. It's a big thread but you'll find all the info your need to fix a dead phone caused by an erased bootloader and/or pds.

p.s. keep bootloader 07.D0 or no higher than 8.23 but you need 07.D0 to restore with flashbackup.

Never mind. Found out that I just have to power on with *#-Power.

Got back my phone from repair (Actually was probably a refurnished phone) and with BL8.23, put back my MonsterPack, Downgrade to 7.D0 with MFF and run Final.exe to unlock it. Everything is fine, except now when to phone is charging, I don't see the charging battery logo in the top left corner of the inner screen and not even on the outer screen.

Anything I could do to fix that?

Ho well, it is fix now but I don't know how this happened.
After powering up the phone I used p2kman to put some ringtone/wallpaper/etc.. and there is when I noticed the missing battery logo.. After putting all my stuff on the phone I tried to power off the phone and was not working at all, I had to remove the battery and put it back in after.
Just try to power on and the battery logo is back to normal and I test to power off again and it is working now... strange!

My V635 is with boot loader 8.26 of V3.
In confusion, i flashed it.
Already tryed all ways to flash 7.D0 and others, using MFF, PST, RSD lite , FlashBackup, RepStudio, Ramldr, and i dont sucess, always fails. I think that get flash 8.21 it can take alive.

I used scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2 kit and everything seemed to go great as i watched it. But after it said it was complete the phone sat there with only the key lights on and nothing on the screen. I've removed the battery and put it back in but still seems to be stuck in boot loader mode as i can hook it up to the pc and it recognizes it. Also i unlocked it as scotty suggested in the kit but still wont reboot. Any ideas how i can get my phone working again? Thanks.

I have no idea what I'm doing .. please help. I put my phone (black razr) in Boot Loader mode (black screen with white text). It says "08.26" so I downloaded scotty2's boot loader and I plugged my phone in the usb and to the computer but when I run it it says,

I was trying to unlock my V3 razr with the downgrader_v2 and motorolla unlocker software. But i accidently clicked on p2kman while it was downgrading and I think this is what caused it to fail. Now the keypad only lights up but screen stays black. The phone is still detected when plugged into to computer, the downgrader just exits out now if I try that, but the unlocker says it found the fone and says Done after unlocking. I tried to flash it with a monster pack and Flashbackup as well as RSD lite but I get error messages and it fails..

Is there anything I can do to try to bring this back to life????? plz any info is appreciated

Im not sure what mode my phone is in becuase the screen just stays black but keypad lights up and the phone is detected and everything but when I try to flash it with a monster pack it says failed to flash. Also on RSD lite my phone is shown as Blank and IMEI is N/A.. Is there anything to try if flashing monster packs keeps failing?

don't know more personally...my v3 went white screen and wouldn't do anything a while back ...called Cingular=clueless, same for Motorola ...so I just did what it said there and put it in "bootloader" mode and flashed the monsterpack and it was fixed !!! baddaboom!

when i try to flash my phone with a monsterpack it says make sure PDS backup valid continue? and when I click continue it freezes. So I made a backup of the PDS and when i try to restore the PDS backup it just freezes when it's "Sending loader please wait"

Is there anything else I can try to fix this? Maybe use the PDS seem editor? because I still seem to have access to that!

I retain the fact you should be able to enter "bootloader" mode even though th fone is toast and reflash it with the software and get back up that way ...I did it and there are other places where reference is made to this problem. What fone do you have? Are you sure you have the correct firmware pack for it? Only use stuff on motox.us ...other sources are not reliable. Look on the forums there as well. Good luck!

Option 5: Lately people have been bricking their V3s when altering the bootloaders to earlier versions and with trying to backup and restore their phones with Flash Backup. This usually results with the V3's "PDS" becoming corrupted which means not only does the phone not work (it gets stuck in permanent bootloader mode) but flashing and flexing with anything available fails too! You need to go to Motlab and download the Motorola Repair Studio Demo program. It just happens to offer PDS repair even in demo mode! Once you download it, launch it and go to the "Phone type:" drop down box and select "V3" and then click the "Repair" button below and it will do its magic in a few minutes. Once it's done just pick a reflash file you like and flash the phone and you are back on your feet again.

I can't find Motorlola repair studio to try it out tho, because the link is dead
Does anybody know where I can find this software, because I think the only other way besides this is to use a smartchip but I nor does anyone I know have one

I finally killed my phone completely with the RepStudio "repair" function, after which it didn't come up even to the bootloader. Keypad is lit for a second when you power it up even with #+* combination, but then it is off, the screen is black all the time.

My understanding at this point I have 2 options to recover:

1. Test point - this involves hardware modifications, like drilling holes and so on. I'm not sure I'm ready for this yet and up to the job...
2. Look for someone with Smart-clip to reflash the phone. I've called around the area for people with Smart-clips

NO, it wont work with motorola unlocker because the bootloader has RSA protection and the only way to unlock is testpoint. And yes ive had one locked to European T-mobile and i unlocked it only with testpoint

Havent seen that issue but have flashed phones that already had a bad bt connection so maybe you need to reflash ... You may have hit a small glitch in the system...... And comgrads you will have your 1000th post soon....

Here's what I have: I have a V3 locked to T-Mobile with 08.26. I don't have T-Mobile sim-card though. Do I need to have my Cingular card inserted first, before I run downgrader?
Do I need to have the phone in boot mode (It shows USB connect OK), but then I run downgrader it says "unable to find any valid interfaces".

Now, to clarify everything: I have just gotten the phone, I don't have any drivers installed - when I connect it via USB, it shows "found new hardware" but can't install drivers for it. Do I need to install that first and whre can I find it? Is it doable at all, since I don't have T-Mobile sim card to get the phone running?

They haven't posted here asking for help. You're thinking of the "old version", "version 2" can't kill your phone, the worst thing that could happen is that you might need to re-flash your firmware if your computer burps or your phone battery dies or the connection gets disrupted, etc.

I'm not saying the old version was unsafe but when used correctly it is safe, just one mistake in the entering of addresses or commands in ramldr could be a big problem.


do you by any chance happen to have the firmware reflasher that you would be able to send to me.

i flashed my V3 with the 07DO using RSD Lite 3.4 and it seemed to be successful. it had me reboot the phone and showed "finished/pass" as the result. it now has no bootloader screen (which is normal from what i'm reading) but when i insert a sim from another carrier i get "enter subsidy password". shouldn't the phone be unlocked at this point?

Now you have an unprotected bootloader... You can now unlocked it with a proper software for that...

can someone confirm. To unlock, i need to downgrade the bootloader to 07.D0 then run the Motorola_unlocker_2005 using a standard usb cable
where can i find the scotty2_8.26_downgrader_v2.zip its not in rapidshare or PURESKILLZZZ 's ftp

Here is a downgrader for 8.26 bl and lower.

google search for p2k easy tools v3.7 or v3.9 to unlock.
it will downgrade the bl but I find downgrading to 7.D0 first goes smoother.

mine's hacked...but when I try to dld the free upgrade of Mobile_Email.jar from Cingular site, it downloads (WAP) and installs and then says "Failure:IncorrectSocket" ...wtf? It's a V3 and the Cingular website says v3 is supported. It's a program from Oz Communications and the old version works fine on the fone. I tried uninstalling the old version first; no luck! All other Java apps work fine including OperaMini, Bejeweled, GoogleMaps, ScanbuyShopper, etc. R374_G_OE.42.10R_A on fone.

well, that file is for use with rsdlite or any flasher for motorola p2k

and is used for being able to modify, unlock, etc the 8.26 bootloaders phones by downgrading the boot loader version

these BL versions are more secure and has RSA signatures, etc, so, you cant directly work with these phones , you need to downgrade the boot loader and then start playing with your phones, of course, after sucessfully making a backup.

teh scotty2 stuff does the same, but in a different way, it uses a flaw on the new boot loaders to install itself and downgrade the boot loder directly to 07D0.

If you want to, modify PDS, Read Bootloader area, read PDS area, read full backups, etc of thesemodels you willneed to downgrade the BL version

Man, you are on the wrong Board, you will probably Not receive the answer for your problem on this thread.

This Boot Loader Downgraders are only for Motorola V3 , Sw Version (fix_me): R364_xx, and Boot Loaders up to 08.26, other FW and BL, like 0a.52 (V3R), V3x, V3i, V3V, etc, Will NOT work.

Whats your mobile phone model and what do you want to do exactly ? go to http://gsmhosting.com/ and ask there on the P2K Series forum...

You want the Nokia forum not Motorola forum.

We cannot tell you how to unlock a nokia phone.

No, it looks like a Motorola phone, just that it is not a v3, looks like a 3G phone, RAINBOW Platform, v980, v975,a1000,c980, etc.

Ok, this method worked like a charm for me and now I have 2 Cingular razors (black and pink-wife) unlocked and completely de-branded with awesome monster packs. just follow this link and read carefully. if u do everything listed here step by step u shouldn't have any problems. But remember this is only for BL08.26/08.28 (as per this guide.). Ok here's the link .

Oh and by the way after all this I was able to upload to bl08.26 again and phones still working and unlocked. Don't know if that has does anything. I just don't like the idea of not seeing the bl screen. then again that's just me.

i have a v3xx from att i put in a tmobile sim card they gave me from work, i get that need subsidy password, i downloaded everything on this forum and more, when i use rsd lite 2.4 to flash the phone it just hangs ( switching the device to flash mode, executed: 0% in process... ) i tried to update the usb drivers but the computer wont take them, ( windows xp ) here are all the files i tried to use

I have a RAZR with BL 8.26 and I downgraded to the bootloader file bl_826-828_to_07d0_for_V3_by_Archy.V2.shx

Now the bootloader screen doesn't show up.

I run the Mot_unlocker.exe program and it says

It's a T-Mobile phone and then I try a Vodaphone NL SIM and a New AT&T SIM and in both cases the phone say "Enter Subsidy Password"
