Cingular 8125: Aim Or Instant Messenger Help! Clearing Things Up

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: turtleiii

i went through most of the posts about getting aim or any other instant messengers on the 8125. people talk about it but no real answers really surface. can we post links and or the best suggestions on getting aim. the only one i know of is IM + which seems to be the only good one and the best deal.

Posted by: JMBrown

I have been using Verichat for the last few days and I love it. They just released an updated version yesterday and it holds its connection much better. I pretty much let it run in the background all day with no problems. Agile has a better UI but when I used it, people didnt receive my IMs, so it was worthless. I would say for the 25/yr, Verichat is worth it.

Posted by: turtleiii

PLEASE! im looking to pay a one time fee. or no fee at all please someone help me! the post on the 8125 is getting to big to keep digging through information. like i said IM+ is the only one ive found but its 40 bucks! agile is 4 bucks a month and like i said i want a 1 time fee or free

Posted by: cinny

Unless you want to log into like 2 AIM account and 2 MSN accounts at the same time you can just pay for the basic Verichat which is like $24 for a 1 year license.

You can log into AIM, MSN, Yahoo, and ICQ all at the same time but only 1 account running on each. There is a free trial, check it out and see how you like it.

so verichat does have a WM5 version that works well? cuz i love my Verichat on my 650, and was worried about my IMing when i get my 8125

Posted by: cinny

Yup. Just click on the one for pocket pc, and then make sure you DL the PPC5 version and you should be cool. It won't give u the option to stay connected all the time like the treo... because it automatically does it

Posted by: adamsbrian74

I've tried this app twice (older version and the newest latest and greatest) and have yet to get it to Connect. I get an error each time it starts that it can not connect to the network. My PIE works fine as well as MSN Messenger. What's the dealio?

wow thats great news! can i transfer my already existing account with Verichat from Treo 650 to pocket pc, or you think they will make me buy again?

Posted by: Chorazin

If you are just looking to AIM, you can get the free PPC AIM client from the Aol.uk website: http://www.aol.co.uk/aim/wince/index.html

It ain't pretty, but it'll get the job done.

probably doesn't work with the Cingular proxy settings. IE works thru the proxy. The Cingular Extended ROM (that loads when you first set up the 8125) has a program that routes MSN around the proxy. I would assume that Verichat (and possibly others) do not work thru the proxy. Maybe you have to turn off the proxy settings in Start->Settings->Connections->Connections->MediaNet (edit my proxy server and uncheck all options).

Posted by: adamsbrian74

Yeah, I didn't dig too far into it, but Opera didn't work either. I'll give it a test tonight.

I downloaded the AIM link that was posted earlier in this thread and it won't connect. I am not having any issues with connecting to the internet with Edge or WiFi so it has to be this program. Anyone get this to work yet?

Mike

Verichat won't work with the cingular proxy enabled. This is the default. Disable it by using the "My ISP" connection instead of the "MediaNet" connection for both your work and Internet profiles. These are found by tapping on Select Networks in the advanced tab of Connections. I'm suspecting this may be the AIM issue as well.

I assume they will make you purchase another license. I didn't even try to transfer mine, it's just about over anyway and I'm on the free trial for a few more days.

Posted by: Jizzay1

I'm using agile as well for my AIM, MSN, and Yahoo accounts. works perfectly.

Is Agile able to connecto to google talk as well?

Posted by: Sleuth255

@CPcrazyfly: you will need a seperate Verichat license for PPC

Posted by: cinny

I've never used agile... can I just download the WM2003 version?

I saw on the site that they have a PTT feature, has anyone used it on the 8125?

Posted by: PointZero

I thought it was mentioned a while back that Agile Messenger started charging a monthly fee?

DITTO Someone please respond to the above...

Posted by: jettaguy87

I haven't used the PTT feature on Agile yet but you do realize it is just recording a voice message basically and delivering it to the other person, it is not true PTT.

Are people actually using Verichat or Agile and staying connected? I have a full signal, and open up Verichat.. if I go back to it 10 minutes later, it's already disconnected.. I just can't keep the thing connected.. I have the same problem with agile which is why I went to verichat. Anyone else have this problem?

Posted by: Greywolfmm

I love Agile Messenger but I can't use it. People don't receive the IM's I send most of the time. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't.

Posted by: turtleiii

which agile do you download? i used the PPC 2002 beta cab file? anyone use any differnet one?

Posted by: topnotchchach

i also downloaded the aim from the aol.co.uk site and when i downloaded it to my cingular 8125 it says "aim" is not a "valid pocket pc file"

whos aim works on their cingular 8125?!!

please help

ps: my friend gave me agile messanger but it wasn the new version it kinda of chopped of some of the peoples ims.

Posted by: smokeyb111

Do any of you guys know if there's a way to display the names differently on the MSN messenger that comes with the 8125? My friends sometimes change their names (and use them as daily changing screen names) and I normally go by the actual e-mail addy that's listed. Is there a way to display (or briefly display) the e-mail addy for each person on my buddy list?

I had the same problem, and turns out I downloaded the Windows Mobile 5 version of Verichat, there is also a Windows Mobile 5 Phone version. Once I uninstalled and reinstalled that one it keeps me connected all the time... like if I get a call, immediatly after it logs me back on.

im using the aol.uk AIM. installed with zero problems. i love how you can actually check peoples away messages as well as their profiles. looks exactly like the PC version of AIM. sometimes doesnt connect, but i just restart the program, and it works like a charm. only downside is that you cannot send your IM's unless you tap "send" on the screen. (unless someone else knows how to do it...)

Posted by: iwantcolorlcd

Ok. I installed Verichat for PPC WM5 "Phone" on my 8125. Does anyone know how to get it to vibrate/sound if an IM comes in (while in verichat)? It seems to vibrate/sound okay if you send it to the background. On my treo 650 it had an option to do this but none on the 8125. TIA

Cheers

It looks like they changed their site a little since I downloaded it last. Now I just see a Smartphone version and a Pocket PC version, and nothing is referred to as Windows Mobile 5. I downloaded the smartphone version but the screen is all messed up as it's written for the smaller phone displays and not a pocket pc sized screen. Is the version you're speaking of which actually *does* stay connected a Pocket PC version? Or are you using the smartphone version which is made for the smaller screens?

Posted by: Sleuth255

use the PPC version. It will take you to download choices after you accept the agreement. There you will see entries for WM5 and WM5 phone edition. Use the phone edition.

I got connected through agile after a while. I have one big question though. Some people say you get charge by data, some say you get charge by text message. I want to know if someone can clear this up for me. The reason is because we are using GPRS to connect but how does cingular/mobile application know that we are sending text msgs or data bytes?. Im sure the phone version of mobile aim can differentiate the two but i'm curious if someone can verify that if we use, agile, aim or verichat, does it charge us by text msg or by data charge?

thanks

Posted by: beatniks3

agile should only be data, at least it is that way on my 6620...

Posted by: vietalogy

i tired installing the verichatsetup.exe and i get "verichatsetup" is not a valid pocket PC app.

Need the Windows Mobile 5 version. I installed the WM 5.0 phone edition. You probably have the Palm version.

Can anyone else confirm how we are going to get charge for using this? TXT Msg or Data Charge?

BTW thanks for confirming agile was data. I wont be using that anymore.

Posted by: kakashiyp

Some how luckily I got agile to connect, but now I can't get verichat to connect. Can someone tell me the settings I should use? I tried MY ISP and Media Net and both can't connect.

Thanks

you have more text messages then data I'm guessing then right? I have used agile for so long because it doesn't use text (and i only have unlimited data, not text plan.)

got a 1000 text and no data plan. 30-40 a month for unlimited is insane. Also has someone figured out a sure fire way to alwayz stay connected?

Posted by: cinny

Verichat is data also.

How do i d/l agile?... i went to the site agilemobile and d/led the the windows versions on my 8125 but it just says i cant run it...anyone know to do this ?

Posted by: Steve28

There's only one in the list hat has Pocket PC in the name...

"Agile Messenger for Windows Pocket PC 2002 Beta"

If you download the .exe you run it on your computer and the Agile will get installed when you sync next. If you download the .cab, you can put that on your 8125 then just run the cab file (click it) and it will install.

Posted by: razorsharp510

thanks...that worked but now i cant sign in using aol... it says to change settins and trouble connecting... wat should i do... wat do i do to the settings? i can use gprs to connect with agile right?

Posted by: Mykeee

agile is free, i have it on my 9100. i believe in order to stay connected you need the hack to leave gprs on. also, you need to make sure you have a full signal all the time, otherwise you'll get logged off of course. only time i've sent an im via agile and the other party didn't receive is when i was about to get logged off agile/lose reception.

Posted by: razorsharp510

what and where is this hack?...thanks
