Guide to connecting your SLVR L7 to P2Ktools, etc

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Blackcatz

I've noticed post after post with someone asking how to get such and such to see my L7 and after much playing i finally got
mine working, so i decided to hopefully help those still having problems on the right path.

So here goes...

You will need the following software:

Free:

P2KTools 0.8.6+
Can be downloaded here: http://p2ktools.motofan.ru/download/P2KTools.rar

Commercial/Copyrighted:

Motorola RSD Lite 2.4
This software is the key to connecting via P2K, etc and as they say "Google is your best friend " however this time Yahoo
is far better

Motorola Tools 4.x.x
This is used only for the modem driver as there seems to be a problem from my experience with the one in RSD Lite as the
driver install fails stating an invalid driver inf.

Lets begin...

1. Install Motorola tools 4.x.x and connect phone when told so that the modem driver is installed, when finished reboot.

2. Install Motorola RSD Lite 2.4, reboot if you wish.

To install the drivers:

1. Ensure your phone is set to Data/Fax Mode:
Connectivity>USB Settings: Default Connection=Data/Fax Connection

2. Start RSD Lite 2.4, once the program has loaded, insert the USB cable from your computer into the side of your phone.

3. Windows will begin recognizing your hardware. Proceed through the prompts as follows

Can Windows connect to Windows Update to search for software?
No, not this time.

What do you want the wizard to do?
Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)

Search for the best driver in these locations.
Include this location in the search: C:\Program Files\Common Files\Motorola Shared\MotPCSDrivers

4. Wait for it to recognize all the components of the phone. You will have to do this a couple of times
the first time. The drivers that will be installed are:
(Motorola USB Modem, Accessories Interface, Data Logging MCU Interface and Test Command Interface)

5. It will take a few minutes for all these to load, after the little bubble by your system tray pops up saying "Your new
hardware is ready to use" and you see that RSD Lite now recognizes your phone in the status window, you are now good to
go.

Using P2Ktools, etc:

1. Launch RSD Lite 2.4 and wait for it to recognize your phone

2. Once it's been recognized, you can launch P2KTools, and you will see in the bottom left-hand corner that the green
bubble is lit up and your phone is connected.

3. Start playing!!!

I hope this helps and would appreciate any comments.

RSD 2.5 is currently out.

Posted by: Blackcatz

i know 2.5 is out however i havent tried it whereas i know it will deffinately work with what i have used, new or older versions of all used software may work, i just havent tried. If you have tell us if it works, especially if you got it to work with the L7 without having to install phone tools because i tried on 2 pc's and a laptop before finally getting the phone recognized and then only when MPT4 had been installed which is a waste for me as i use none of its features.

Hey guys, I just picked up my SLVR yesterday and was hoping someone could help me.

I cannot for the life of me get iTunes to recognize my phone. When I connect it to my PC, it recognizes it as a mass storage device, and the phone pops up a message saying not all apps/functions may work, or something similar. I can access the folders and such on the phone, so I know my PC sees it. I've also tried installing iTunes with the CD I was given with the phone, and from the download from iTunes.com. No luck with either. While connected, if I hit the iTunes key on my phone it goes to Do Not Disconnect and just stays there, and my only option is to hit Exit and unplug it.

Is there a pc driver or something I need? I'm not into modding phones so I'm pretty much a n00b with it all. I am pretty computer savvy though, and I really can't see what I'm doing wrong. I'm pretty sure it's one of two things, 1) I need a PC Driver, 2) My phone is jacked.

It shouldn't be this hard.

Thanks in advance for the help.

Thanks. I've been having trouble getting my connection to work through Motorola Phone Tools. It's been disconnecting from my PC when I start to transfer media files over to it. I'll try these extra programs to see if they resolve the issue.

RSD Lite V2.3 works as well, I flashed my L7 with it pretty much right out of the box.

For iTunes to work, you need to switch your phone out of data/fax.

Thank you, Thank you. My V360 is connected to P2Kman!! Your instructions worked perfectly. I had to load the drivers several times, and now it connects as long as I run RSD. By the way, it works on RSD ver 2.5.

I have it set to memory card. I have formatted the card, flashed the phone twice, reloaded itunes twice, tried 2 computers, and 2 different cables.

The only program my phone will connect to is rsd lite. It says my phone is being installed and set up but then it says MPT cannot function without a mobile phone installed.
Thanks

Yes, I can run RSD Lite 2.5 on the PC with just P2K whatever running to connect. I don't need Motorola Phone Tools or the modem drivers installed.

I have added and use Motorola Phone tools 4.0, but that is for other reasons.

i downloaded MPT 3.23. After a long and grueling process, I finally got it updated to 4.04. (i think it went something like 3.23->3.25->3.25b->3.28->3.30->4.04 - w/ downloads of 10mb, 10mb, 5mb, .5mb, 52mb)

now, is there a way for me to save all that?? since it live updates itself, i'd hate to reinstall the program and go through the updates again

edit: screw it, i found a site that let me d/l 4.04 (the peanut butter). btw, i installed RSD lite 2.5 before MPT. works great!

Thanks for writing this up. This is the only procedure I've been able to get working. Here's hoping that it remains consistent upon my machine.

Posted by: Blackcatz

well people i seem to have found why i need mpt4 installed whereas some dont all my machines are running a heavly nlited custom version of windows which suits me fine however installed an un edited copy the other day as i couldnt be bothered messin and low and behold i didnt need mpt to get my L7 recognized. anyway i may be wide of the mark here and the nlited windows having nothing to do with it but it looks likely to me.
is anyone else running nlited windows who was able to get it all working without mpt4

just tried tutorial, worked a treat. Cheers ;-)

this worked great.. thanks

However for the N0obs (like myself) how the heck do you use this stuff.....
is there a "how to" guide somewhere?

It seems that the link to P2K tools is dead. Can someone please post another active link?

I recently purchased a SLVR with service through sprint. I have MPT 4.0. Every time I try to connect the phone and install drivers, it doesn't recognize it. I keep hearing that I should make sure the phone is in data/fax mode, but there's no option for that in settings.

HOW DO I SWITCH THE SLVR L7 TO DATA/FAX MODE?

IF THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS DATA/FAX MODE FOR MY PHONE, why won't each computer I try it on recognize the phone in MPT, UID extractor, P2K, or anything else I try?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Joe

I just got my SLVR L7 through Cingular, I'm not really interested in doing anything too technical yet, but could anyone tell me how to get my photos off of it onto my computer? I triend navigating to the Pictures folder when I plugged it in but there was nothing there. Also, how do I get the micro sd card out?
Thanks!
