Samsung X427 Lowercase SMS?

I can't seem to figure out how to get this phone to type lowercase in the sms windows. When I hit the right softkey the phone toggles between T9, A, and symbols. How do I get non-T9 messages to go lowercase?

You didn't look at your instruction manual, did you?

I think if you press the * key (it's the key with an arrow pointing up), the "A" will change to "a."
