Does anyone know what method Cingular will use to deliver AKU 2.0 to 8125 users when the update is released? Will we have to download it from their site, will they send a text message letting us know? What's the deal?

Knowing Cingular, they won't give us the update, they will just say that its only available on newly purchased phones...

I would hope they don't pull that. Afterall, on the following page it states this at the bottom: "* supports upgrade to Microsoft's Messaging and Security Feature Pack".

As I understand it, it's not just a patch, it requires a whole ROM upgrade so I'm assuming it will come in the way of a ROM upgrade posted somewhere -- htcamerica.net most likely. I wouldn't count on Cingular making it widely known, but I'm sure that if you keep checking back here you'll hear as soon as it's available.

They might not release it directly to download, but since its just an upgrade to the OS, we may be able to get it from somewhere else. Its just like updating from the Cingular rom to a Qtek rom...the OS is the same, its just branded differently, and then you can change the settings to match the network (mms, grps, etc.)...so im guessing, we'll be just able to get the patch from somewhere and slap it on
According to the Microsoft Announcement:
""Cingular Wireless, Orange, T-Mobile and Vodafone today announced free upgrades to the Messaging and Security Feature Pack (MSFP) for all their Windows Mobile 5.0 customers, enabling Direct Push functionality and providing enhanced device management and security for messaging applications. Palm Inc. and i-Mate also reaffirmed their commitment to free MSFP upgrades. In addition, new Windows Mobile-based devices were unveiled today, all of which will ship with Direct Push technology: the HP iPAQ hw6900 Mobile Messenger, the Gigabyte Communications g-Smart, the ASUS P305 3G-enabled smartphone, and the Fujitsu Siemens FS Pocket Loox. In addition, HTC Corp. has unveiled a new product portfolio of Windows Mobile-based devices that are Direct Push-enabled and will be made available globally to T-Mobile and other operators beginning in the second quarter of this year."
Since they claim its an "upgrade", i dont think u have to buy a new phone to "upgrade"
just my 2 cents

With a ROM upgrade, what can be done to prevent losing any changes/data/apps that may be associated with a ROM upgrade?
Posted by: Ishimaru
nothing, u WILL lose all data on the device.

A program like Sprite-Backup would save everything AFAIK.
