Puppies!!

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: Melisande

At 5 this morning my roommate's Jack Russell Terrier, Lily, gave birth to three adorable puppies. It was a long and difficult birth (two of them were breech and nearly died), but all puppies and mom are now resting comfortably.

More pictures to come (as they grow!)

(as a side note: my roommate's a professional breeder and already has a waiting list for the puppies. I advocate spaying and neutering for nearly all cats and dogs, because kitties and puppies grow and don't always find good homes )

how so? does the fact that those puppies are dogs too have anything to do with it??

Posted by: Aurora

I'm glad the two that almost died made it That makes me happy.

Cute puppies.

Sad update : Lily just gave birth to a fourth puppy nearly 8 hours later. It wasn't born alive. It looked slightly deformed and it probably died in development. Mom and the other three puppies are still doing fine.

Some more pics:

so four pups, of which one was still born.... kind of a large litter for a jack russel.... first litter? how old's lily?

GAWD, they're so cute

I'll give Lily your compliments

Yeah, we weren't expecting to get four puppies... we thought she was only going to give birth to two. She's roughly two years old, and this is her first litter. This will most likely be her last litter, as well... she's a little on the small side for a JR and had a rough time with the birth.

BTW, puppies sure are messy! The washer has been running non-stop since 6 am.

very nice dogs!

nice dogs.. not to be funny or anything.. but in curiosity what happens to the other puppie that dies? where does it go?

tried to avoid this (and an all-doggies-go-to-heaven joke)... some owners will allow the mother to EAT the dead pup because they're afraid if they discarded it some other way, the mother will know one of her pups is missing and will refuse to provide milk for the others... or so i have heard...

melisande, does your breeder/friend know anything about this?

My friend's heard of it, but she's never heard of it actually happening. As for the dead puppy, we snuck it away when Lily wasn't looking and wrapped it up for the trash. We don't want to bury it (the dogs will most certainly dig it up!).

Cool!!

Posted by: TE1221

Congratulations on the birth!

The puppies are very cute!

If anyone's snooping through your trash they will get a big suprise and probably wont snoop in your trash anymore.

Posted by: AndyLHoang

aww, how cute!

and sorry for the loss of the last puppy....

Posted by: Koofteh

Aww, the one with the pink nose is so ugly, in a cute way.

I remember when they wrapped the "dead" puppy in 101 Dalmations, and then they found out he was alive.

Just out of curiosity, wouldn't you take you dog to the vet when she's giving birth?

Shawn

My dog is dead. It tried to eat my hamster. It was a golden retreaver.

Most births are done at home. We have the vet on standby if there's any complications.

Thanks for the compliments, everyone! I'll be sure to tell the puppies

Yeah, Braveheart (the dad) competed in shows when he was younger, and he likes to pose like that. He naturally acts he's the best looking dog on the planet... it's quite amusing, really... Doggie GQ

Oh no... then we'd have five dogs in the house! My roommate is a professional breeder, and she has a waiting list for homes for the puppies. I think they go for around $600 each

Posted by: Melisande

Well, two of the puppies have been sold to good homes. The third one, Squeak (now renamed Woodstock) is staying with my friend; she just liked him way too much.

Here's her web page for her kennel and the puppies, with lots of new pictures (hosted by my web space ): http://pages.sbcglobal.net/lshinar/...nnel/index.html

(BTW, despite what the site says, the puppies are no longer available. She just hasn't posted the update yet. )
