Bubbling Keypad

My sidekick II's keypad seems to have lost its stick. it bubbles up which is very annoying when you try to type especially a long email. ANYone else had this problem of know how to fix it?

People who use the device hard or people with poorly applied adhesive see this issue.

If your SK2 is still under warranty, contact T-Mobile CS and arrange for a replacement. Beware however, refurbs often come to you in worse shape than the unit you are returning.

Luck.

What The Hell Is Wrong With U? I've Had My Sidekick 2 Since March Of 05 And The Keypad Has Never Rippled Up On Me, Ur Either Not Taking Care Of Ur sidekick II or U spilled a substance on it, those who don't take care of it don't even deserve one I know it wasn't givin to U like that when it came in the box

Tarroyo,

Word to the wise...personal attacks like that can get you banned. Might want to moderate your posts just a _bit_.

YMMV.

sometimes heat can cause the glue to lose is adhesive ability, so if you leave it in the sun or a hot place that keyboard will peel off

i peeled mine off and put super glue gel on mine

Posted by: abellaboy

well my keypad is peeling and the corner of the screen keeps hitting my s and d key. One day I closed my phone and it ripped off the d and s key and now my phone is missing 2 keys. tmobile said they can't replace it under warranty bc the s and d key are missing....this sucks!

ok first off i want to state. that i bought a used sidekick in this condition. so no one needs to burn me. hehehe
but i have the same problem. the keypad is all peeled up in the center and i tried re glueing it but it didnt go so well..
does tmobile sell the keypad. or is there any websites like www.cnn.cn that would sell just the keypad... i mean this is insane to have to get a whole new sidekick cause a stupid keypad... i see so many people selling there SK2 on ebay cause the keypad or a broken LCD.. if they would just make these parts easy to purchase there would be alot less broken sidekicks out there...
so please any help to where i can get a new keypad would be appericated. thanks everyone

Fido (in canada) sells replacement hiptop II keypads for $25 bucks canadian. not sure how much t-mobile or suncom sells them for, but im assuming they should be similarily priced over there.

Posted by: pimpdaddypat

from what i am gathering on hiptop.com is that they do not sell any spare parts over here in the US.
so my next idea is that i got a dummy display phone on ebay for 20.00
now the question is. will that keypad work? can i pull the whole plastic peice out.. does the dummy phone even have the clear plastic peice?
please anyone that has done this before or has a dummy phone that they can look at.. let me know...
i just need something to hold me over until the SK3 comes out...
thank god it looks like it has hard plastic keys on the sk3
we can only hope right hehehe

its a manufacters defect and t mobile knows and they refuse to do a recall. i filed a complaint to the BBB and i suggest you do to...

If you come up with a plausible solution, please share with the rest of us. Mine is peeling @ the spacebar, although it has pretty much stayed down. I know it will get worse before it gets better though....

it is a manufactures defect i see this a lot and tarroyo u need to chill out bro

Posted by: Yerre

it's possible to take the keypad from another SK2 and switch it with the peeled one...you jus have to take apart the top part of the SK2, i did it for my friend... the only thing is that u have to get a messed up or old SK

nobody answered my question.
will a keypad from a dummy display work. or is it not the same

Posted by: Amw3000

Im pretty sure a keyboard from a dummy has no eletronics, although ive never taken mine apart. Ill take my dummy apart and let you know.

Well the keypad on my real sidekick II doesnt have any electronics either.
It's a thin piece of plastic/rubber, that has little nubs that poke into hole to activate the buttons, (think a key pad from a normal phone, how it is plastic and pushes the actual buttons on the hardware.

it's kinda like that, the real trick is finding the correct glue and getting it applied. So far Danger and T-Mo have been unhelpful when asked what glue they used.

ok cool thank you for doing that.. i got a dummy phone but i just dont know if it has those little nubs on the underside of the keypad and i hate to take it apart if its not going to work... cause the keypad on the dummy phone looks different then the sidekick.. the color of the letters on the keys look whiter then the real sidekicks..

but if u do take it apart please let me know. and thanks again

watch it be non-transparent, and the digits will not illuminate at nite, lol.. i can just see it now..

Hahaha that's exactly what I am affraid of. Because the buttons looks white instead of transparent... I hope not

After working at a cellular store, I know that the dummy phones are sometimes not like that real phones at all - even as far as case goes.

I highly doubt the parts will work from the dummy phone. Sorry.
