Enabling Network Selection in 8125

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

After reading approximately 9256 pages of threads, I have not yet found a method of enabling network selection.

I was able to unlock my 8125 by obtaining the code from Cingular but how in the world do I enable Network Selection.

I would love to find out what networks are near me so that I could choose the best reception.

Help Mang !

You have to use a SIM card from T-mobile (the only other network compatible with your phone) to make it lock into T-Mobile network.

Features I would like to see...
1.) Manual Network Selection
2.) Network list
3.) Automatic/Manual
4.) The ability to select what bands the 8125 uses like the Motorola's I own.
5.) The true carrier tag, instead of "Cingular" when I'm really being served by Edge Wireless, Union Telephone, Unicel etc..

Yes, I am aware of this seeing options 1-3 by popping either the T-Mobile or AT&T Wireless SIM card. Number #5 I'll have to find out if I make a trip to Idaho, Wyoming, Vermont, etc..respectively and not forget to bring the HTC.

I am able to do of all the above with the Qtek 9100.

Go to HCKU/Control Panel/PhoneNetSelMode and post your registry settings from that folder.

+Add Value+
Option 0 (dec)
Timeout 3000 (dec)

Change Option from 0 to 1
Change Timeout from 3000 to 30000.

This should enable Network Selection and keep it on the chosen network.

No, it doesn't work.
Option goes back to "0" if you soft reset it.

i was under the impression that you had to put the phone into standby for a bit, before resetting it. Becasue it takes a while for the phone to actually write those changes into the memory.

correct me if im wrong.

You are correct.

I tried creating my own DWORD(?) value for Option "1" and deleted the original Option "0" and the only thing that happened is that Option " 0" reappears when I turned it back on.

I know that you can enable manual network selection on the Cingular branded MPx 220 via reg editing, but as soon you turn it off and on, the edited key for manual network selection is gone and the original value is restored. I think I'm seeing the same thing with the Cingular branded HTC 8125, the orignal entry is restored...at least for manual network selection.

Thank you Preceptions...at least we know where to start.
Another person that might be able to crack this case is Omega2008, he's proficient with figuring out WM based phones.

Has anyone found a solution to unlock the network selection in a Tilt. I know you can get another sim card... but I was hoping to do it via registry hack.

you cant do it to the tilt via reg edits, you can try to either flash another rom to it, or pay for a program called bandswitch

No matter what network is displayed on the phone, you can only use a network with which AT&T has roaming agreements in that specific location. Usually wireless networks do not have roaming agreements with other carriers in areas where the home network has native coverage.
