E815 video questions (and settings for 3GP_Converter)

I recently bought an E815 for the primary purpose of playing videos (and of course making calls!) After about 3 hours of experimentation with 3GP_Converter and Quicktime Pro, I was finally able to create videos that would play on my phone. (I didn't see the search function at first, so I didn't find out about mpegable 4X live until later.) I finally found 3GP_Converter settings that worked:
3GP2+AAC General Setting (w/o 3GPP2 header) with QCIF High quality 15fps Stereo.
However, there are a few gotchas. There is a small black strip at the top of each video when it plays back on the phone (though not in Quicktime.) Furthermore, the best audio quality that I can create with 3GP_Converter is 16Khz, which doesn't sound great. Has anyone else experienced these problems? Is there any way to get rid of that annoying black strip, or get 3GP_Converter to output higher quality audio?
