V3 RAZR + mp3 = file corrupt?

Ok, so I used GarageBand to edit down a file to the segment I wanted. I exported it to iTunes, where I converted it to 32kbps / 22.05khz / mono mp3. File size is 35.7kb. (Settings are according to this site.)

I transferred the file to my phone (V3 RAZR on T-Mobile - US) with Bluetooth (phone and laptop are paired), and tried to open the file in the Media - Music section. The phone says "File Corrupted - Delete? Y/N".

Am I doing something wrong? Does it just not work with Macs? I tried once before using windows and the recommended programs - audacity, razorlame, etc., and the phone just wouldn't recognize the mp3 as a ringtone. I could play it in the media section, but not set it as a ringtone.

Incidentally, this time it let me set it as a ringtone but did not let me play it.

I've been having the same problem. The strange part is that it used to work for me (using a Mac and/or a PC, with Audacity), but as of late hasn't. The only thing I've changed is that I'm using a newer lame_enc.dll library.. but I didn't think that would change anything.

Anyone have some advice?

edit: Also, I've set the export bitrate in audacity preferences to 32kbps, so I'm fairly sure that's not the problem.

edit 2: After transferring via bluetooth on my iBook, instead of just going to "browse" and manually throwing it in, I tried "sending" the ringtone, and now the phone rejects it and says "not a recognized filetype" or something to that effect. Really weird.

I just wanted to let you know that I am doing the exact same thing but at 64kbps and it works fine for me. I use garageband 3 and choose new podcast project. I then add the mp3 i want to use into the jungle track. Then I split the track where i want it to start and where I want it to end. I delete the chunks I don't need. I then just send it to Itunes. I open I tunes and encode it as an mp3 at 64 kbps. I am using a G5 Imac and send it via bluetooth to a Razr V3. No problems.

Sounds like I need to try 64kbps. I'll try now and report back.

Edit: I did it, and it works. The weird part is, it encoded it as 32kbps - both the phone and iTunes confirm that. So I guess....set it to 64kbps, it will encode as 32kbps and work

I had been converting mine to 128k with Audacity and was having this problem with some files. Should I change them to 64kbps? And is fo, how do you do this in itunes?

Okay, I tried again in 64kbps.. didn't solve the problem. Just another thing to add, I'm using a v600, but as I said encoding in 32kbps worked just fine before. Is it possible that the lame_enc library I'm using is too recent for my phone to handle, or something else I'm overlooking?

Open iTunes, go to the iTunes menu and select preferences, advanced, then importing.

You'll see some options there, set them appropriately (encode with mp3, settings custom, 22.05khz, 64kbps, no smart encoding, no VBR, I used mono, but I don't know if that's necessary). Then go select the song and hit advanced > convert.

Make sure you change the settings back before you rip a CD

As to the other issue - I don't know if it's the library, but it does rather sound like it. Try rolling it back?
