How to teach old T9 new tricks

I stumbled across the instructions on how to add words to the T9 library in the instruction manual for the Sanyo SCP-5150. This was back when Sanyo phones actually came with instructions instead of propaganda and disclaimers. <end rant>

Here goes, if you are typing in T9 and you try to input a word but it does not exist in T9, delete the part of the word you wrote, change your selection from T9 to alphabet and type the word. Here is the important part - when the last letter of the word is still highlighted, switch back to T9 and hit the space button. That's it! Now the word has been added to T9!

Ah... T9 that will accept new words. Can anyone tell me again why anybody made phones with T9 that don't do this?

Thanks for the info!!! I hope it works with my 4900... Cause I was instant messaging my friend the other night from Yahoo on my phone and it wasn't recognizing certain words and I had to go to alphabet and put it in the long way then go back to T9. I will try it next time to see if it works on my phone.. I love reading everyones post about this phone. I've had it a few weeks now and love it.. Gave my girlfriend my old 4500 and got her to switch to sprint.. Rose
