Best Skins Ever

Hands on review by lgreenberg.
February 25th, 2006

Price as reviewed: $5.95

I was recently asked by the President of Best Skins Ever if I'd be interested in reviewing their product. I happily agreed. I'm always willing to give anything a try.

Today I received my sample of the Best Skins Ever product made specifically for the Blackberry 8700c.

The Best Skin Ever product is almost identical to the product we all know as the "Invisible Shield." (I was told they are cut from the same product.) Now normally I'm a little turned off by products that are an exact copy but if they are done as well and cheaper I can't complain. The Best Skin Ever seems to fit this build. If someone else can make the product the same way and offer it for considerably less I'm all for it.

The Best Skins Ever come on a single sheet of white backing with three distinct sections. A screen piece, top piece and bottom piece. The screen piece does have a removable section for the ear piece.

Please note. I was sent two sets for reviewing purposes. Only one set comes in an order.

Application of the Best Skins Ever are exactly like that of the Invisible Shield and instructions are provided on a printed sheet.

For those of you unfamiliar this involves getting the back of the protector wet with a soapy solution and applying it to the device. Then removing the water trapped underneath with a credit card.

Now I must admit, applying this type of screen protector always makes me a little nervous. Water and electronic devices just don't mix. It was for this reason I struggled with the Invisible Shield. I never got the one I ordered on right and ended up having to throw it away. Most likely because I was to hesitant and didn't use enough water.

Not the case with the Best Skins Ever. I held nothing back. I removed the battery and set to work. I fully submerged the protector in the soapy water, as suggested in the instructions and than slid it on the screen. I removed the bubbles and wiped it dry. Beautiful. I applied the top and bottom protectors as well. The top piece was a bit of a fight. The rounded top makes it a little difficult to get the skin properly situated. After a few attempts I got it centered though.

Skins installed, device off.

Top Piece

Bottom Piece

I can't yet comment on practical use over long term as I just installed the product today. But by all appearances my screen appears crystal clear. The average person would be hard pressed to notice anything installed on the screen at all. I did allow one screen piece to dry and then removed it. There was no adhesive left behind. This might be a concern for some but you need not worry.

I give my personal thumbs up to the Best Skins Ever. The product simply works. I believe it'll become my screen protector of choice from now on.

Pros: Crystal Clear Protection, three-piece protection, in-expensive.

Cons: No application solution included, water used for application offers some risk.

I've heard some bad things about these, but thanks for the review Greenberg. I went ahead and got some screen protectors from shieldzone.com aka the invisible shield, after doing the first one on my PPC-6700 it kinda just becomes second nature, I ordered some for my Zen Vison: M and it only took about 3 minutes to do. You really do get nervous the first time you do it, difference is they sent me a small bottle of there application solution also which made it easier.

Good review lgreenberg. I am thinking of picking these up for my 8700c. I just wonder why they don't make pieces for the back also? That way you can have full pretection for your BB.

You did mention once that you use e-grips for the back, how much protection coverage do those provide?

Where did you hear "bad things" about these and from whom?

They are the exact same product as the Invisible Shield.

The Invisible Shield is $11.95 and only includes a piece for the screen. The Best Skin Ever is $5.49 and comes with the additional two front pieces.

It covers 95% of the battery door.

The Invisible Shield makes one for the back, but it's $24.95.

The audio talk forum here is where I mainly heard they cloud up a bit, but since they are the same it doesnt matter I guess. Also they come with the full piece for mine, however I did not buy for a 8700c.

Just an update.

I heard today from "The Best Skins Ever." They have decided to release a "full" protection skin.

"This tough screen protector covers every bit of viewing real estate of your BlackBerry 8700c and includes 5 more pieces to cover the body above the screen and below the keys and the entire back side. Precision Cut for a perfect fit the first time, every time. Keep the scratch in your wallet... and off your stuff."

The best part? Only $6.99

You can have a look at it here

Good stuff!

This is GREAT!! And for the price, might as well get 2 sets!!!

Posted by: lgreenberg

Just an update.

I received the newly updated skin today including the back piece and installed it.

I added an Egrip on top of the battery door skin for even more protection.

Ahh I was thinking of doing this with the full set I ordered today. Will it still fit into the OEM plastic holster with this full skin?

Absolutely. No problem.

I ordered the screen protector before this was announced, but I got an email a few days later telling me they were substituting the full skins for the ones I ordered! Just wanted to pass this along, my experiences with this company have been outstanding thus far.

do they make one for the 7100i, or is that a special order item??

Posted by: lgreenberg

If you don't see it listed on their site I suggest sending them an e-mail and asking.

Posted by: CIAlias

any idea where I can see the pictures associated with this review?

Posted by: bbpearl

^same question: has anyone tried this with the OEM pocket protector for the 8100?

Posted by: mintymintyfresh

I bought several BestSkinsEver iphone skins and even helped friends put them on. Needless to say I love the protection it provides and was selling it to everybody.

However yesterday a friend show me the skin which she purchased at the Apple store. It looks much better, smoother and clearer, than BestSkinEver, without all of the ripples. I'm going to buy the skin at the Apple Store for the face but keep the bestskinever for the back of the phone.

I thought from all these forums that the materials are the SAME THING regardless of the brand you buy it from. Apparently not!

i can attest to the fact that BSr IS and has been the best skin i have used on a pearl or curve

easy to install easy to remove( if necessary) and definitely ships fast

also, their customer support is very diligent in responding to inquiries and are very professional!

way to go BSE!!

i gotta admit, i installed my "best sskin ever" on tuesday of this week, and thus far i am HIGHLY DISSATISFIED with the product...

it is not clear, it has a sharp discoloration to the screen, almost like looking at the screen through polarized lenses. secondly, i didnt care for all the pieces, my phone took 5 pieces iirc, where i do see a way that a single film could have covered it all... this may have made installation more difficult, but it would have exponentially increased the way the product feels and the post install aesthetics of the product.

in addition, since there are so many small sections of film, they all gather the dust, pocket lint, and dog hair that they come in contact with. so now my blackberry looks furry.

and my last gripe about the multiple sections, the feel... the product feels awful on my phone, i can feel every edge of the protector when i handle the phone, again, this would be greatly improved by lowering the amount of pieces there are.

it is (so far) great at protecting my phone, but i really wish it had been designed better, and was made out of a higher quality, truely invisible material...

I have used the BSE and the invisible shield. I also order sheet rolls of the plastic material (3M product). Learning to apply these skins takes practice. I have been doing this for several years. I appreciate no difference between the BSE and IS. The IS ships with application solution, lint free cloth etc but the cost is triple that of the BSE. With proper application, all of my devices look flawless. When I sell them, I remove the skin (usually a little scratched) and the device is unblemished. No more IS for me.
