I have been trying to get my cell phone to talk to my mac for a while now. It worked when I had 10.3, but now that I have 10.4, it seems hopeless. I connect the phone to the computer, and Bitpim Recognizes the phone, but when I hit "Get Phone Data" I get the following error:
Code:

I tried to tell the bitpim developers, but they denied my post:

Anyone have any ideas?

Been using Bitpim with osx since way before Tiger.. jaguar? who cares any more.. haha. Does your set up look like this?

Posted by: kadis

My settings are nearly identical except for the com port:
usb::002::002-1004-6000-02-00::2
When I click browse, I see the following:

Ok so i'm thinking it could be a phone-side problem.

in your Data settings, is your data set to USB?

(sorry i don't know why i thought you were using a BT connection, i neglected to look at the 'vx6100' portion..lol)

Posted by: kadis

Yup. On my phone: "PC Connection: USB"

Posted by: kadis

Sorry all, I hate to do this, but... bump.

Has anyone connected to the Verizon EVDO system using BitPim and a USB data cable connected to a LG VX8100?

You need to subscribe to the mailing list to be able to send messages, anyone can sign up, read the instructions on bitpim.org

i used the previous version of BITpim and things were fine. then when i "updated it", its TOTALLY broken. ine thing i see is that the prefs are kept in HIDDNE files, which is not good, cause you cant really delete them.

i keep getting crashes. BITPIM people have broken BITPIM for the mac.

nice upgrade. you get what you pay for.

Just an update in case anyone else has this issue:
- The newest version of bitpim (0.8.12) fixes an interface issue (one of the problems that the log was reporting)
- I changed my phone's connection setting from "USB" to "RS-232C: "230400 bps"
Now everything works fine.

Posted by: vai777

it works now, but WHY CAN'T I SAVE TO MY OWN DIRECTORY !!!

BitPim saves to a .bitpim HIDDEN directory, that I can't save to or from from the mac OS.

just silly.

but, you get what you pay for.

Posted by: skyjunky

Yes you can, but you have to use the command line (terminal) to do it.
There are many "hidden" files on a mac, bitpim is no different than other software in this regard.
Why do you need to access this file, all the options are configurable from the bitpim gui.

SO have you had the ability to transfer data via bluetooth? I have been trying to do this with my VX8100 and BitPim can't connect to the phone. BTW the phone and the Mac are paired.

because when i try to save a picture from bitpim to anywhere, in order to import it into iphoto, bitpim crashes. bitpim used to let you choose your directory where things are saved. i dont understand reducing functionality in new releases. but i repeat, you get what you pay for.

bitpim is great, but if i cant get at the pictures i take off the phone, its useless to me.

If bitpim crashes then there is a bug, can you post the exception log, I can get this fixed in the next version.
Another user reported a problem with save crashing, this has already been fixed and will be in the next release due out next week.
If you want to "pay" the developers are always open to donations/loans of phones that are not currently supported, this is the only way that the project can continue.
You can also post suggestions/bug reports to the bitpim user list, bugs will usually get attention, however complaining to those lists will get you nowhere.

here's my crash log. I still think that not allowing the pictures to be saved to a library where you can actually get at them is incredibly cumbersome. If i take alot of pics on my phone, i usually like to import them into iphoto, and then email them off to friends. This makes a two click process an 3n-click process; where N is the number of photos you want to take from your phone.

This is already fixed in the code, it will be available in version 0.8.13.

If you want to see the hidden files in the finder type the following two line into a terminal window on your mac. Commands are case sensitive (Terminal is a app in the applications/utilities folder)
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles TRUE
killall Finder

Click on your user directory in the finder and you will see the '.bitpim-files' folder.
You will also see a bunch of other hidden files.
To turn this off type these two lines in a terminal
defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

thank you for your reply and help with the code.

at the risk of beating an already dead horse, why can't BitPim just allow me to select WHERE the bitpim folder is? i dont want to clutter up every folder with a ton of hidden files. that's the beauty of MAC, i dont have to care about random system files. Things are neatly arranged in folders, and hidden becuase they dont break (for me).

thanks again.

Send a message to the bitpim user list, the developer who made the decision might give you an answer
