804SH with POP3 email support?

Recently been to VDFX and someone has been posting up all these pictures of it with Euro firmware settings available to change, including POP3 email support (although there's been no corresponding posts in their forum). However, it's still displayed in Japanese, which is weird because the JP version isn't supposed to support POP3 email, nor display all the things in these pictures (read report setting, 'Vodafone Messenger' link, legacy SMS settings, etc, all things meant to appear in EU firmware but not JP firmware). Is Sharp finally planning to add official JP language support to EU phones? The fact that all these options already have Japanese text strings for them programmed in is encouraging. Let's hope so...

I've learnt that these pics are from a Japanese user who's 804SH got badly bugged. It was turned off and he came to turn it on, only to find it rebooting itself in an endless loop. He took the battery out and removed the USIM card, reinserted it, put the battery back in, turned it on, and found his phone like that, with EU firmware settings accessible. Eventually he got the POP3 email working through Vodafone Japan's internet access point, so he's one of the lucky few to use a Sharp phone with JP firmware and download POP3 email.

This was all posted in the 2ch Japanese forum. Link here (poster is '735'): http://hobby7.2ch.net/test/read.cgi/phs/1140226610

japanese sharp phones cannot support pop3 email??? how about 903 jp? does it also mean that it can not do pop3 email? or is it just for 804?

No JP firmware Sharp phones can do POP3 email, that includes the 804 as displayed above and 903 as well. Like I said, the user I posted above accidentally got to the POP3 function through a glitch in his 804SH's JP firmware. It's a glitch he's obviously chosen not to get fixed.

All it means is that his JP firmware is behaving a lot more like EU firmware now. His Vodafone live! shortcut isn't working (it's trying to go to live.vodafone.com instead of ptl/menu) and he's got the Vodafone Messenger shortcut, which for him tries to access a page that doesn't exist.
