2125 Memory Problem

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Earlier, when I couldn't post, I saw something on a thread about a guy having problems with his 2125 memory filling up too fast. I can't find it again so I started a new thread.

Before my 2125 was week old, I too started having memory problems. This didn't seem right since I had add a 256 mini sd to hold some of the programs. I talked to three people at Cingular before the third one told me it was a phone problem and to return it. I returned it, and have now had the new one for over two weeks with no problems.

If your memory is being filled up too fast, TAKE IT BACK TO CINGULAR.

Windows Mobile is a badly written Operating System to begin with and allocated memory very poorly. It might not have been a defective phone as memory can be eaten up a couple of ways,

1.) Programs do no automatically close when you exit out of them, you must open Task Manager (Start Menu program) and choose close all programs to free the memory up (I probably do this 3 to 4 times a day)

2.) When using PIE (Pocket Internet Explorer) and browsing sites your cache will fill up (just like a regular PC) and by defualt it is stored on the phone memory. You must edit the registry to change the storage method for CACHE.

Internet Explorer Cache/Temporary files on the storage card:
=============================================
Run RegeditSTG and follow path below.

HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/CurrentVersion/Explorer/Shell Folders

Values -> Cache

*Change value data to point to your Storage Card

Thanks,
I'm not having memory problems now, but I'll use your tips to head off future problems.

Hmmmmmmmm,
Just figured out I know less about this phone then I thought.

Is there any instructions anywhere to explain the tips above?

here is the link to everything you need to know about 2125... In order to do the above tweaks you need to download a registry editor. I like to use Smartione, but there are many other options available...
