so i just got a vx 9800 and i was planning on loading it with pics and mp3s, but i cant connect to it. Ive paired my powerbook g4 with the phone, but everytime i try to connect to bitpim it says no phone recognized. Someone, anyone, if you can help please do.

I had this same problem earlier today, but I use Windows XP. I basically stopped trying to get BitPim to "Detect Phone" because it actually disconnected teh bluetooth connection. As long as my phone and PC are paired, I can just run BitPim, and then start Sending and Getting Phone Data.

Hope this helps!

If you continue to look around, I have a post with the same questions/concerns. I went out a bought a cable to verify that bitpim would work with the 9800. The filesystem portion works great. I still am unable to use the bluetooth to see the filesytem. I was able to use bluetooth to set the phone up as a modem, but that is really not what I want to do. If you figure this out, please post.

Hey guys,

My Bitpim used to work with ease but recently encountered a problem with the new release of 0.9. I recently and saw this post still unresolved so I figured I would help with what I know.

Here is what I did to fix the problem (using Bitpim 0.9):
------------------------------------------------------------------
1) Pair your phone with your Mac. (I am assuming everyone knows how to do this)
2) Go to "System Preferences" > "Bluetooth" > Select your phone device in "Bluetooth Device" Listbox.
3) Click "Edit Serial Ports" and press the "+" to add a port.
4) Make sure you add with the following attributes:
- Name the port whatever you like (I left it as default)
- Device Service: BT DIAG
- Port Type: RS-232
5) Finally make sure you are paired and open Bitpim.
6) Once in Bitpim, open preferences and select vx9800 and also select the "Com Port" you just made.

This should allow you to browse the file system and do other things. Hope this helps.

I am using bitpim 0.9.0-official, and it works just fine for me with v5 firmware on the phone.

I discovered that when I had v1 of the firmware, my phone had absolutely no problems syncing up via bluetooth with bitpim... no problems or anything. I looked at the data settings of my phone (in the hidden service menu) and found that with v1 the default settings under "portmap(data)" was USB CDC, and under "portmap(diag)" was bluetooth. With v5 of the firmware the default settings are USB CDC for "portmap(data)" and UART1 for "portmap(diag)".

So in order to get your v5 phone to hook up to your computer via bluetooth, try this:

Open the phone and press "OK"

Press "0"

This should prompt you for a password, enter "00000"

You should now see the service menu. Press 4 to be taken to the data settings.

Select the option for "PortMap(Data)" and make sure it is set to "bluetooth".

Press the clear button to go back.

Select the option for "PortMap(Diag)" and make sure it is set to "bluetooth".

Exit the service menu, and then try and connect your PC and Phone again. You may have to delete the previous settings and start over from scratch. Also, please note that every time your phone is turned off and turned back on again, the data settings are reset. You will have to specify them again.

I'm having the same problem. I just got the VX-9800 yesterday and I want to put my contacts from the Mac Apple Address Book into my phone as well as using the other features of BitPim. I've tried all of the suggestions in this thread, but I'm still not getting any communication with BitPim. Pairing with Bluetooth on my Macbook Pro isn't a problem though. Here's a copy of the BitPim log as it was trying to connect to the 9800. Maybe someone has some info on what might be happening. If you've got suggestions, I'd really appreciate it.

Besides going to the verizon store is there a way to hard reset or flash my phone to go back to original? Im trying to sell it and I dont want it to have anything on it. Thanks

P.S. I have the VX9800

Posted by: Vgasim

Ok, I just got my V Friday and I'm not sure if this thread is still actively looking for an answer, but I'll lend my help anyway...

This worked for me. Go to bluetooth preferences on a mac and make sure it is on. Then go to set up new device and look for a mobile phone. Put your V in shown to all mode and turn the bluetooth on. The mac will discover the V and go through the pairing process. It will most likely give you a this device supports no services error or something, but don't worry about that. On the phone go to paired devices and find your mac. Mine is labeled "Mac mini" and below that is states "Port Disabled." Enable the pc-port and bluetooth and make sure to refresh the shown to all.

Now open bitpim (9.0.4? I think that's the most recent and the version I am using but I am not on my mac right now) and set your phone up. Select LG vx9800 and then go to browse for the communication port. It should show 3 or so available serial connections. One will be a pda/syn, two might be BT DAIL of some variety, and the last will be BTDAL it think (it might be BTDAIL), this connection was mentioned further up in the post. Then uncheck detect phone at start up and you should be on your way.

I have uploaded and downloaded wallpapers, homemade ringtones, my calendar, phonebook, sms history, and recent call data with no trouble. If you have any other questions I can help you out. Just PM me.

I got my Powerbook G4 (Panther) connected to my LG Chocolate VX8500 (Verizon) and was able to send the Address Book via Bluetooth. I decided to post the instructions... let me know if it works for you.

Assuming the phone supports BackupAssistant, that could be another (and perhaps even a better) way to go about it as well.

Be careful when using it though, and set any program you use to not overwrite at first if that's possible until you backup everything.
