What do the icons on the T300 mean?

I've checked my manual and can't find the icons described anywhere. Some make perfect sense like the battery and signal strength or the occasional envelope which I guess means I have a message.
But there are others that appear sometime and not others. For instance one looks like about three squares on top of each other slightly offset in different colors. I guessed it might mean I had a picture message but when I check I don't. That icon is there about half the tiime and half the time it's not. It appears on the right side of the screen.
Right now I have a number 1 with a curved line over it on the left side of the screen. That isn't always there. What the heck is that?
I also don't understand the purpose of the screensaver. I mean it comes on for about 10 seconds and then the screen goes to the clock. Just how is this 10 second image saving my screen and who would ever get to see it besides me?
I upgraded from my old Nokia 6190 to this phone and I like having color and longer readable entries in my phonebook and the vibrating alert but other than that I think I really prefer my old phone. This one is almost too small to handle comfortably and doesn't seem to have as good a reception as my old phone.
Also one of the big selling points on the phone for me was the polyphonic tones but they fade in from such a low volume and never really get loud enough so I ended up switching back to normal monophonic tones (of which there are less to choose from than my old phone.)
And the T-Zones internet access. It's neat to have but it really is a pain in the *** to enter information or even read much on a small screen. I guess this is probably a problem with all internet capable phones.
Anyway I didn't intend for this to be a post of gripes, just got carried away. I'd really like to know what the icons mean.

The icon indicates you've activated a profile (besides Normal). Go to Settings/Profiles/Select Profile/Normal to turn the icon off.
The other indicators I'm not so sure about.
The best way to set up your T-Zones is to get on www.t-mobile.com and set it up on a desktop browser. Then you can browse to your fave sites without typing URLs.

Update:
Take a look in the back of the manual for the phone, pages 69-72. Every icon the phone can wave in your face is listed there.
