How do recurrent Tasks work on Microsoft phones?

I'm thinking about getting a Microsoft phone (like the Qtek 8310) or a symbian phone, but I need to know how recurrent Tasks work on Microsoft phones?
Can you set the recurrence of a Tasks directly on the phone? Or do you have to sync the phone with Outlook's Tasks every time you want it to reoccur? When the task is up how is the reoccurrence generated?
Do you think a Microsoft phone is good for managing a calendar and Tasks or should I go for a symbian phone?
If you want to recommend me a phone I’d appreciate it.
I basically want a phone that:
-manages the Calendar and Tasks efficiently.
-has task or event based profile switching
-decent camera
-and decent battery life
I currently own a Sony Ericsson k750i by the way.

well any microsoft phone will do all that you ask if add the right software to it i would recomend:
papyrus
oxios todo
autoflight
city alarms
they would cover everything you want in your list apart from decnt camera for that you need a good phone and as only have ever had an MPx220 I can't recomend one with a good camera.

Thank you.
Can you tell me which one of those apps manages recurrent Tasks and how they basicly work? Recurrent Tasks are made in Tasks and not in the calendar right?
And making a recurrent task in one of those apps is a one time deal? How is the reoccurence generated?
And could you tell me which one of those does the event or task based profile switching.
Those apps run in the background right? Do they affect the battery life?
Sorry if I'm asking too many questions

Well for profile switching, Outlook, based on your appointments will switch your profile to Meeting from Normal. Meeting is set to low volumes and vibrating but you can set it all to vibrate. I like it. I don't have to remember to turn my phone down or whatever when i go for an interview. Set the time the interview supposed to start and it goes into "meeting" mode at the specified time.
THe only problem is that you'd need Outlook to manage tasks. The 8125 is a PPC Phone tho not a smartphone so i think it's fully customizable on PPCs just like in Outlook for the desktop. ON the smartphone tho it's not, you can only name a task and check it when it's done. Can't even edit it which makes absolutely no sense. Why is it even there only God knows. I do know tho that depending on how you set it up in Outlook, as soon as you check it that it's complete it automatically generates another with the prior settings. Usually say every 30 days so it'll repopulate with a due date of 30 days from the past due date, not when you checked it. There are lots of lil twists with that tho, but since Outlook is the main conduit for Windows Mobile time management features, check out Outlook on your PC and see if that would work for you.

I’m not a big fan of Outlook and I want to be able to set up recurrent Tasks directly on the phone without syncing it with Outlook or any other software.
Are you saying I will not be able to do this on a Microsoft phone like the Qtek 8310? In the second reply a user listed a few apps, will those allow me to set up recurrent tasks directly on the phone?
Is that profile switching you talked about calendar event based? What about task based profile switching?
Thank you for replying btw.

oxios todo list or powertasks will let you set repeated reminders directly on the phine for tasks
papyurs is just a calendar program that too has a task manager that will allow you to set repeat reminders direct from the phone
autoflight will do more than switch between two prifile it can also switch to normal switch you to meeting and switch you to loud in case you are planning on being somewhere noisy like a building site.
and city alarms lets you set alrmas many of them through out the day and repeat them as and when you wish.
note that the buit in task program doesnot allow repeat reminders and you can only set one alarm at a time with the built ib alarm.
the built in profile switcher only allows normal to meeting and back again
but the built in calendar is nice but papyrus is better.
so to summerise get all the software i mentined earlier (oxios optional as papyrus has one builtin but oxios looks smoother)
and you will be good to go if you dont want to spend extra money getting your phone to do what ou need stay away from smartphone and find something more suitable

Thank you for your replies, it helped put things into perspective for me.
I’m giving some serious thought into acquiring something like the Qtek 8310 I just wished it had a better camera, it is seriously turning me off…
Are there any new MS smartphones on the horizon with better cameras?
