Cingular 8125 - VPN capabilities?

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Thought I posted this earlier, and I dont see the thread nor a delete notice, so I'm going to post again...

Thinking about getting the 8125 and a big part of that is going to hinge on whether or not I can VPN back into my office to use Terminal Services Client to access servers in the case of an outage.

Is anyone here doing this or have a good answer as to whether or not this is capable? We're using a Checkpoint FW right now with either SSL or SecureClient to get in remotely.

It supports PPTP and L2TP/IPSec. Bascially the same thing as in Windows XP. If your VPN does not support above two methods and requires something like Cisco VPN client, you're out of luck unless you can find the compatible VPN client software for PPC.

I have tried doing this myself without any luck. The VPN seems to connect just fine, but as soon as I try to establish a terminal connection, the VPN drops. Does the same thing on EDGE or WiFi. Is there a way to tell what IP was assigned by the VPN server on the 8125? Does anyone know of some free tools that will work with Windows Moblie 5.0 (ipconfig, ping, tracert, etc)?

For network utilities try vxUtil - http://www.cam.com/windowsce.html

But it does not handle VPN at all.

You asked:

"Does anyone know of some free tools that will work with Windows Moblie 5.0 (ipconfig, ping, tracert, etc)?"

vxUtil does this. The info function will give you the same information as ipconfig in Windows including the IP info for your VPN connection

Actually, that was me that asked that, not FoxBat121. Thanks for the reply though, I will check those tools out.

Remember, for any VPN client that will be using ptpp the wap apn won't work for you. Switch over to the isp.cingular apn and give it a shot.
