(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Has anyone tethered your mac using OS X to the Cingular 8125?
I have tried over and over and cannot seem to do it. I had a i-mate jamin for a few weesa and it did it great ,but I went with the 8125. I could not get the mms to work using the Jamin. My bluetooth keeps closing before it completes its config. It will alson not recognize it when I try to connect )mobile phone) but it will recognize it when (using any bluetooth devise)
Thank You

Mac OS X will not work well with the 8125 because it's Windows Mobile 5. I was able to send a file from my phone to my Mac, but not from my Mac to the phone.

Apple will need to do something for this to work I believe.

This is why I have yet to buy the phone. One of the agents was willing to set one aside for me when it came in stock but I decided not to have the rep go thew thee trouble of holding one aside. I wanted to see and hear the feedback on hee and also I am waiting for Apple, Pocketmac, or Mark/Space to make it work.

10.4.4 fixed some bluetooth issues, if you haven't updated yet you might try that.

Once the bt works, you'll still need to get a modem script that works. http://www.taniwha.org.uk/ is a great source for scripts, but the only ppc script there is for a ppc 2003 ipaq, so you might have to play around with some of the generic scripts.

Or you could enter the AT commands manually in a terminal. There's a button in PPP > PPP Options to open a terminal window on attempt to connect.

Then you'd have to enter the commands manually:
at+cgdcont=1,"IP","isp.cingular"
atd*99***1#

Am I forgetting anything? Sorry if I am, hopefully that will get you started.

If you're able to get bt or usb to tether I'd be very happy if you'd post the details.

Here's what I use for my 2125 and my PowerBook:

1) Put the attached script in /Library/Modem Scripts/ (unzip it first)

2) In the System Preferences, go to Network, then select your Bluetooth connection

3) In account name, enter: WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM

4) In password, enter: CINGULAR1

5) In telephone number: wap.cingular

6) Then click "apply now" to save

7) Select the "Bluetooth Modem" tab

8) Select the "Generic 3G CID1" script you placed in the scripts folder in step 1.

Now you can either click on the "Dial Now..." button or open the Internet Connect application yourself (that's what the button does). Then click "Connect".

From now on... all you need to do is launch Internet Connect and click connect.

Now I just cannot wait for Pocket Mac to finish the update for Windows Mobile 2005.

Ah! So the Generic 3G CID1 script works! Great info, thanks. I'll let my co-workers know.

I'm assuming this is so you can connect your laptop to your phone for internet access.

I'm trying to browse the phone from my computer so I can put files onto it. Whenever I try, I get Device does not have the necessary services.

But, I can send a file from my phone to my Mac.

OT but...

I sold my 8125 because it reminded me how bad Windows is. Im not sure how a Mac user could keep a Windows Mobile device.

OTOH Palm OS works very well with OSX.

For the time being im gonna keep my Powerbook together with a Sony Ericsson or a Nokia

You won't be able to "browse" the phone from the mac - at least until MissingSync is updated to work with WM5 devices.

To send files to your 8125/2125 from the Mac, you need to go to Start->Settings->Connections->Beam then check the box that says "Receive Incoming Beams"

Now from your mac's bluetooth menu, select send file, then choose the 8125/2125 and click send. The transfer will start and you'll get a screen on the phone about whether you want to cancel or accept the transfer. The files you send will go into /My Documents/ on the phone - I've found no way to transfer directly to the storage card.

NOTE: I've found if the phone is keypad locked, the transfers will fail, so you ned to make sure your keypad isn't locked when starting the transfer.

I think the windows Mobile 5 and Max os x will work great to gether when Pocket Mac or missing sync comes out with the update . I used a WM 2003 with the Samsung 700i and it was great. Of course nobody beats Ericssion and mac sync. You jsut have to make your picks of what you want. The 8125 is the best thing I've come across.I have a Se w66i , a w88i , and have tried the treo 650. The Communicator (way to big) the Nokia 6682 and the Roker itunes phone and finally the i-mate Jamin. The 8125 in my opinion beats them all. I very happy with the Customer service at Cingular. I made the switch from Verizon. I use the unlimited internet plan and they do not charge me for tethering bluetooth to my mac. Verizon makes you pay extra for every service.
Happy I did changed to Cingular.

When I got my SMT5600, I was skeptical about a Windows divice, but it was just like learning any new phone interface, so it wasn't that tough. Once I figured out their logic (as it were) it was great.

I used Missing Sync for my 5600, but now that I am using the 8125, I can't wait until they update for WM5... come on www.markspace.com!

Well, that works for the time being until Missing Sync comes out.

Thanks for the info.

Don't mean to be a hater - but this is wrong.

I tried and tried and tried with this info - but to no avail. THEN, I found THIS: http://justinblanton.com/2006/01

Which has the correct info - took me less that 2 minutes - good luck!

Well, it's clearly not "wrong" as it works for me and many others (who even posted in this thread) - so you may want to rethink that comment.

Perhaps "doesn't work for me" would be more accurate in your case.

By the way, the above steps verbatim work for the 2125 AND the 8125, because I've used them both with my PowerBookG4

Posted by: driven01

I can't get the 8125 to pair with ANYTHING except a BT headphone that I have.

It won't pair with my wife's acura, not with my PowerBook, my G5 or even my Dell.

I can see the computers from the phone, but not the phone from the computers. It *IS* set to discover mode ... it just doesn't seem to work.

Odd yes? Any ideas?

I was thinking the same thing - the Windows metaphor sucks on the desktop, let alone try to adapt that POS to a phone. A phone should make calls and be rock solid. Something that cannot be said of anything from Microsoft.

My v551 "syncs" great with my Powerbook - phonebook, calendar all work fine. That's all I need. Don't want any more of the BS a WM device offers. A coworker has one (not with Cingy) and all I can say is "YAWN!".....

ok, here is my question. I have the original cingular rom that cam with the 8125 and i have OS 10.3.9 It wont recognize my phone as a phone... only as "other device". When i go under system preferences and click bluetooth, under devices, it shows as a "computer". It never asks me if i want to use this device to connect to the internet. Is this possibly an update to OS 10.4, or is it possibly because you all have updated the ROM on the 8125. Can somone help me out please, i'd love to get this working, thats what i bought it for anyways. thanks!

I would update to 10.4... My PB also doesn't see the 8125 as a "phone" only as a "device" so it will work as a "device" but the issue might be with the OS support in BT settings. Hope that helps...?

**Sorry if I offended anyone's delicate sensabilities when I used the word "wrong" but after 3 days of fooling with instructions that don't work, it's kind of hard not to think they info is "wrong" - especially when you find correct instructions that work the first time you try them. Hope no one stayed up all night crying, my bad

Not to dig up too old of a thread, but what kind of speeds are you getting? This procedure worked great for me, BTW.

I have to go to text.dslreports dot com to do my speed test because it is so slow. Last test was 63k and I'm in Edge territory.

Sorry, I JUST saw your post... I have no idea the speeds I am getting, seems to be as fast as my pop's iMac on dial up (or a bit faster)
