Lotus Notes Client

Is there a Lotus Notes CLIENT for the Black Berry?

Our company does not happy POP3 enabled on our Domino server (and probably never will) and I was just wondering if there was a client that I could install on to a BB similar to a client I would install on a normal PC.

If your company doesn't enable POP3 or Web access, then the only other option is to have them run a BES for Lotus Domino.

Darn... Well I guess I won't be getting a BB... LOL

My company's Notes Team is too scared to do anything of that nature.

Ah well... Atleast I know the answer.

Are you looking to access your mail via the Blackberry or just the contacts, calendar, notes, tasks, etc?

Posted by: backermann

WarWagon has a good point... should have thought about it. Blackberry Desktop Manager lets you sync contacts, calendar, notes, tasks and journal through the USB sync with Notes. It's the wireless functionality (email, wireless calendar sync) that needs the corporate BES server.

You can use Rules in Notes 6.5 which will forward a copy to your blackberry. Check the knowledgebase on Blackberry.com

I am looking to do Calendars, Contacts and Email...

I have two email accounts I would like on this unit.

1) lotus notes
2) a pop3 account

I figured I would need two types of clients... The stock POP3 email built in jobby would work for my #2 item... And I figured some kinda of clinet software for notes would fix my #1

I need to figure it out by the end of march since the sale with Bell will end

will they not let you use BIS?

and have both you addys forwarded to your BB.net address?

then you;d just need to sync with your terminal reconcile contacts, calendar, ect.

I'm also part of the desperate and unfortunate bunch who also is stuck with Lotus Notes, and old version even.

We do NOT use BES. My interaction with the Blackberry is all me.

I can verify that synchronizing of contacts, tasks, and calendar items is flawless on my blackberry, version 7100t.

(I very recently ran into a problem installing the very latest version of Desktop Manager, which woud produce error during synchronizing, butafter consulting with T-Mobile, I did a clean uninstall (per instructions at blackberry.com, support, search for "complete uninstall) and installed an earlier version, and I'm back up and running perfectly.)

Of course your blackberry will also work fine your on Pop3 account.

I wouldn't necessarily call it unfortunate (I've NEVER gotten (or rather executed) a virus through my Notes mail unlike other platforms).. It's really up to your company.. I have Notes 7 synching with my BB via a BES.. Have no issue. I synch my email, address book, calendar, todo and journal. Works like a charm.

In regards to forwarding your email, I would double check with your company policy on that. Don't want to get fired for something as simple as that.

Where I am, I do have access to BES but I still don't use it as I don't want to have 24/7 access to my work email That would just make me work more than I already do. I sync the contacts, calendar, etc with the desktop manager. With the 4.1 os I can now sync via bluetooth, which makes it even easier! I walk up to my computer, type in my password and it just starts syncing! gotta love technology

lol

Good tips... It seems like if I don't have a BES I am SOL

That whole "forward" method does not appeal to me... It's either the real deal or no deal... LOL

Ahh well... Maybe the PPC's have a Windows Notes Client...

I actually think I found one that works with the Palm OS & PPC...

http://web.commontime.com/

I'm a big fan of Commontime and mNotes - used it exclusively while I was on the Palm and PocketPC platform... they are a great company with a great product. Their sync techology (mNotes) is great, but keep in mind that their Wireless Sync product is server-side as well, just like BES - your company needs an mNotes server to provide Wireless Sync services. Their client-side product works wonderfully with Notes, but is a tradition sync solution.

You beat me to it.

If you look at the documentation they have online for mNotes, it states just that. So you would still need to be connected to your PC (unless you get the server side portion) in order to replicate your mail to the PocketPC.

Thanks for the info guys...

So in with a mNotes sever I could sync wirelessly otherwise I am only able to sync with the PC?

Does BES run on the Lotus Server? We have Notes on AIX, and I am afraid we are screwed. I can get to notes via a browser over the web, so can I use my BB like that?

Posted by: sparrky

No, I think you need BES to get Notes to push emails. I don't think you'll be able to get email via Notes webmail.

The BB connects to the BES server - when you install the Desktop mgr it asks for your connect and if you specify BES, it will ask the server name, then creates the secure connection.

I believe BES only runs on Windoze. It would be great if it ran on AIX!! Most organizations, add an additional windows domino server, and install the BES server on it. The mail files that will be associated with the BES server would then need to have the BES server added to their ACL - So a single BES server will connect to multiple Domino servers to poll for messages.

my sys admin does not think that is possible and is moving domino to windows server to make this all work. WTF? The windows copy of domino could replicate with the AIX master domino server right? This is like throwing out the baby with the bathwater in my opinion.

I agree wholeheartedly that Windows does not scale as well as a unix box. Please note that the Windows case here will not have replicate the mail files to the BES server. Instead, you are giving the Domino Server running on the Windows BES server access to the mail file on the AIX box.

When will RIM wake up and smell the coffee.. Microsoft wants them dead (by announcing their own push mail technology), time to wake up and start porting their software over to linux, unix, macos and a real database solution. Sorry for my vent.. Been a long day.
