Help! VK 2010 is available??

(Click here to view the original thread with full colors/images)

Posted by: TonLoc

Really want this phone, should have been out by year-end. Search returns only one place to get it even at this late date. I can't order it, though because it is a French website

http://www.internity.fr/product_inf...roducts_id=3347

and they apparently are not selling to US customers. Any ideas or information? THX

Posted by: Sticman

Try this outfit...they do ship to the US, take credit cards and they also have the 2010:
http://www.mobile-gadgets.net/shop/home.php?cat=43
The one screwy thing is that when you go through the order process on their website, the website computes the shipping cost to the US at well over $100. That seemed like BS, so I called them. They said that their website has a softare glitch and they don't use that website-computed shipping cost but rather they manually compute shipping costs on all orders via the "official" UPS website.
So, shipping to the US is about Euro 60.

Posted by: TonLoc

I'm checking into it now. I think the 2020 is even better...Just released I think. I wonder why there are not more sellers of these phones? Thx again

Posted by: Haoaw

I want this phone for my gf
Its the perfect phone for girl

Is there anyone selling it in Toronto, Canada?
Also what would be the price for this? I saw the vk2000 here for $270cad at PacificMall, so its safe to guess its around that price?

This phone is awsome for the size, too bad no camera...

Posted by: Sticman

Here's another place where they sell the VK2020 online, and for less $ than the place in Germany:

http://www.microdiscount.com/vprd/VK2020/181/

Problem is, the website's in French. I sent them an email two days ago to see if they ship to the US, but no response yet. Will let you know.

Anyone speak French well enough to get through the ordering process?

Posted by: Haoaw

But this is the VK2010 thread

Posted by: TonLoc

Yes, I was asking about the 2010, but the 2020 is better and seems to be the same price. Much more memory, better looking IMO. Anyway, all of the French sites are linked somehow to PlanetDiscount (see the bottom of any of the pages). I just got an email saying they will not send to the US. They do send to Canada, so now all we need is someone to make a little profit for us who can import them to Canada and then resell them to us.

Posted by: Haoaw

I believe I saw somewhere that 2010 also has as much Memory as the others?

Posted by: ippon

2010 and 2020 might be hard to get in canada for now.
there is only one supplier of vk products in canada and vk has an agreement with rogers to not sell 2010 and 2020 on the canadian market, because rogers might carry them.

Posted by: Haoaw

^ Why is that? Why does Roger dont want this phone... its a sexy phone man

why Roger have to screw with us like that

Posted by: ippon

got some news from the rumorville.
radioshack, not intertan shack, but REAL radioshack will be carrying couple of vk phones, possibly 2000 and 2010, and other models will be offered by rogers.

Just picked up a vk2000 for $120usd shipped.... I think that is pretty price

Congrats. Where did you get it?

I need one with bluetooth, therwise I would grab a 2000 also.

Posted by: ippon

that is great price.
who's selling it that cheap???

Posted by: ~W~

I will post back after i get the phone... def to a comparison picture next to a razr/slvr, and a pebl....

i got mine on ebay...lucked out, seller had a auction and no one bid on it except for me. Then again, not a lot of people knew about the phone

Posted by: TonLoc

Just bought the vk 2020...had to buy it from France...not easy. I will report when the phone arrives. The one thing I don't like about any of these is the lack of a speakerphone, which I have become dependent on. The bluetooth is fine for the car, however.

Posted by: ~W~

must of cost a grip!!!.....congrats.... do you know if you got the 850/1800/1900 version or the 900/1800/1900 version?

From the specs i have read it seems that only the vk2000 was quad band

Posted by: ippon

even in the vk2000's packaging says its triband, although the hardware is quad.
i would bet my two cents that it is quadband.

Congrats.

Did you buy from microdiscount.com?
they told me they only ship to Europe. How'd you do it?
Thanks

Just ordered the VK2020 from Wapzon.com

I've never ordered from them before, I'll let you know how it goes. Drive out was $284 with expedited shipping paying through paypal, hopefully I'll get it in 3-5 days.

Posted by: TonLoc

I'm betting much more than $.02 that it is quadband listing indicated quadband so I am covered. I downloaded the manual in french and it shows that the band can be chosen, but it has been many years since I took french neway, if someone gets information before me please post it! I should have the phone midweek next week.

Posted by: Haoaw

To make sure everyone understand

I played with the VK2000 couple of days, and its both triband and quadband
The phone have an option to choose between 900/1800/1900 or 800/1800/1900
So in sense, its both tri and quad

Anyways, I am in need to findout a answer for VK2010, please someone find a answer...?
I really need to know the EXACT memory on VK2010. Is it 512mb/1gig or 128mb as seen at GSMArena? I see so much different respond now I am scare to purchase this phone online

Someone help

Posted by: jehlinger

I'll get mine hopefully next week (VK2020), I'll know about memory then, but it's supposed to be 1gb. The VK2010 is not out yet, and I don't know when it will be.

Posted by: poqsaq

Jehlinger, I'm anxious to hear about your experiences when you get the VK2020. I'm looking into getting one myself from wapzon and using it on T-mobile -- I'm just waiting to hear how it goes for you before I go out and order mine. :-)

weird.
there must be two firmware versions.
one i played with has 900/1800 or 850/1900 option.

Posted by: ~W~

I was going to buy form wapzon, but something about their site seemed really fishy.

Looks to damn fake, hehe. Hope not though, let us know when the vk202 arrive!!!

Posted by: ~W~

well i just got my vk2000 for $120 and it arrived....nice!@!@ but the screen is very grainy... wondering if we can download new screen savers and ringers....

Posted by: jehlinger

wing, I haven't been able to find a usb cable to order for the vk2000 any where yet. I'm hoping the vk2020 comes with the cable (damn well better come with one, how else would you transfer songs).

I was hesitant to order from wapzon, you're right it's a cheesy website, but I did a search and found good feedback from others. I have to say they've been responsive so far. Sent an email asking me to verify my order to make sure someone hadn't stolen my paypal. Then sent me an email with tracking number yesterday.

Of course I haven't gotten it yet.......

Posted by: ~W~

I notice you ordered it on the 15th, and it took until today for them to ship out isnt bad. another 5-7 business days since its coming from the EAST. I checked the feedback and the verification for payments and it wasnt secure... Granted its paypal you are paying with but I cannot and will not pay through a non-secure site. I sure hope you get your phone soon. I have the vk2000 and my only gripes are the fact that it does not have a better screen, and ringers.

Posted by: ~W~

btw...FINALLY got cingular internet to work....

Agreed, I paid them through paypal directly not through their site.

Getting t-mobile internet working was tricky as well, but I've noticed it is fairly fast for only GPRS.

I think the 5-7 day delay was due to the fact that they just got the phones in on Friday. Or possibly some delay was the emailing back and forth confirming the order. They didn't receive my confirmation until Thursday (16th) and I think they're closed on Friday.

What settings did you use that worked on the VKs?!!! Did you use the settings from a specific alternate device? I have Cingular Blue so it may be more of a challenge unless the VKs use the same settings as another device supported on the Cingular Blue settings site. I didn't think there was any way of getting the WAP to work.

Posted by: ~W~

i use my cingular settings...it wasnt that hard... att should be similar...

Hi. I got a VK2020 from pixmania.fr. The back and sides of the phone have a brownish tint to them. Is this the same for those who bought from Wapzon - or does the VK2020 come in two colours: black and satin brown? So far the phone seems to be excellent.

Is it quadband or tri-band? Or possibly band selectable?

Congrats

Posted by: jehlinger

OK good news, I got the phone this morning and IT IS QUADBAND

You can switch bands between 850/1900 and 900/1800mhz.

Nice looking phone. It is more brown than black.

It is slightly longer than the VK2000 but not as wide, feels good.

It comes with a european charger, USB cable and headset, and english manual. Also PC sync software but I haven't set that up yet.

It charges through the USB cable, so if you have one of those AC/Car combo USB adapters you can charge it anywhere.

RF seems good initially, my office is signal-hell and I'm getting two bars. Calls sound fine with no break-up.

Display is sharp. OLED is very bright.

Build quality is good, everything seems tight. Battery cover is hard to get off, but fits very tight. No button on bottom to push accidentally and pop the cover off.

I'll try and sync and do a few other things and report back later.......

Overall I'm pleased so far!!!

What sort of materials is the phone made of...plastic or metallic?

Posted by: jehlinger

The faceplate is metal but the sides and back are plastic. Could be metal-coated plastic but definitely plastic.

Posted by: jehlinger

Doesn't have 1gb memory, only 128mb and 96mb available. Also will not play music through bluetooth headphones, only through wired headphones included. Interestingly, it will play the music through built-in speaker when headphones are not plugged in. It's fairly loud, I don't know why they didn't include a speakerphone function.

Posted by: ~W~

any pictures of the phone? so you are able to upload song? slightly longer than vk2000 eh...hmmmmmm

picture call id?

Posted by: ~W~

not 1gb? that sucks.... if it had 1gb it would be worth the 280 for sure, now thinking about it.... QUAD band is a plus, but i suppose ima wait for the price to drop to 200....

Posted by: jehlinger

I'll try and post some pictures later. I don't think it has picture caller id, but I'll check when I can.

If I were you I'd wait for a little price drop.

As far as it being slightly longer (5mm I think) it feels better as it's not as wide as the vk2000. It seems easier to hold and dial numbers with one hand.

Posted by: ~W~

nice..... looks like a mini L7...indeed...

can u use mp3 as a ringer? Have you been able to upload wallpapers or mp3 via bluetooth?

Posted by: Sticman

I just got one from wapzon also. Mine's brown too.

The size is perfect...much smaller than the razr, especially in thickness.

It comes with PC synch software, but I can't get the computer to recoginize the phone when plugged in via USB.

Their synch software does not support bluetooth, I don't believe, as its not mentioned in the manual for the synch software.

Wapzon was fine. A little slow, but the price was right and it comes from Malaysia.

Bluetooth works great...flawlessly integrates with my car. I tried the Samsung P300 ("credit card" phone) and that bluetooth did not work with my car.

It's actually $223 at wapzon, which is lower than the $280 I thought it was. I am very surprised by the memory difference. Do you have to stick in a memory card to increase it, and what format is the card?

Also, Jehlinger- let us know more about any other quirks you discover like with the headset issue you mentioned for playing tunes. So what do you think of the brown? When I hear brown, I think ugly 70's wood-paneling, but hopefully that is not the case.

There's no place to put a memory stick or card.

Its more of a "gunmetal", more greyish than brown.
Compared to the original razr, its not that silverish color.

Sticman, to get PCSync to work do the following:

Agreed the color is more gunmetal. I like it actually and the overall feel of the phone.

Posted by: ~W~

so...picture caller id? and and mp3 ringers?

223 is without shipping im assuming.....

Sorry forgot about that. mp3 ringers work fine and there is picture caller id and individual ringtones as well.

Of course there's no camera so you have to download them to the phone using the usb or bluetooth. I've sent a picture and mp3 files using bluetooth without problems from my hw6915 PPCPhone.

Posted by: jbaz

The phone rocks. Not exactly as expected, but still worth it. wapzone.com, 280 usd total and shipped fedex express. Ordered on a fri, got to me early wed. FAST.

Phone is a satin brown but looks dark grey, silver and black if no one told u it wasn't. Manual and language is in english.

Works as well as any other phone ive had as far as signal reception with TMobile. It is quadband, you can choose either 900/1800 or 850/1900.

USB works great. I dragged n dropped a folder full of music into its music folder but was shocked when only 97mb transferred. WTF is that bs. Well i can confirm it is not the 1gig that was origionally advertised, but none the less its ok with me. I can confirm the speakerphone option is no where to be found but it will play the mp3s externally, and quite loud to. The music will pause and you can take your calls (w/wo headphones) PC sync works fine as well. The device can be finicky. If u get an error, unplug the cable then try again.

Screen is awesome. Flat keypad is hard to use (esp w/1 hand) compared to my GD55 (modified internal antenna). I love how light and slim the vk2020 is but it is a little bit taller than what im used to. You can hardly feel this in your pocket.

You can not set individual custom ringtones and/or pics for your contacts. I have been only able to choose my custom ringers and pics only for for identifying calls from a specific group, not a contact. Work Around: use pcsync to make each contact its own group. Also, I can confirm your main ringer and your alarm can be a downloaded mp3.

Can't confirm how well bt works.

Battery is fine. But then again i charge my phones everynight anyways. Maximize bat life by turning off led, setting backlight for only 5 secs, and try turning brightness all the way down(still very bright).

Giving me another 900mb, speakerphone, videoplayer, and a voicememo would have been good things but im sure the next gen will meet the demands.

Overall I'm very satisfied.

wait...from the above poster...there seems to be conflicting information...

so you cannot have individual mp3 ringer assign nor can you have individual picture caller id?

instead, only group pic ID and group mp3 ringers?

Jbaz,

You can set individual ringtones and picture caller id's but the phone numbers have to be in or copied "to the phone", it won't work if they're a phone number in the SIM card.

ima check that here shortly.

Posted by: jehlinger

Verified,

You can set individual ringtone and picture caller id's BUT the contacts must be stored in the phone itself. I just did this with three entries and it works fine. You have to edit the entry individually. With a contact selected hit Option>Details>Option>Edit then scroll down to the little portrait icon or the little musical note icon to set the picture or ringtone.

Posted by: ~W~

okay NICE!!! I think ima dive in WAPZON tonite when i get paid and pick me up one

Jehlinger, You are 100% correct. If its on the phone, not the sim, u can set ringtones/pics for each individual contact. Thanks man

I sold mine the same day I got it to a friend. Just couldn't handle the no speakerphone deal. VERY small. Most bluetooth headsets are bigger! Anyway, do you know how to pair the bluetooth with a BMW or other auto package? My friend is having difficulty...Thx if you know. PS, The screen is really amazing. Well done for a phone that small as long as you don't need a speakerphone. Ciao!

I just don't understand why they didn't include a speakerphone function, the speaker is capable, it plays mp3s very loud. Maybe the mic won't handle the gain necessary.

Posted by: TonLoc

If anyone figures out the Bluetooth, please enlighten...Thx!

Posted by: Haoaw

So is the phone 1gig or just 100mb?

Posted by: jehlinger

just 100mb or 128mb but I've only got 96mb free before I load stuff into it.

Posted by: poqsaq

My VK2020 shipped yesterday from wapzon -- I'll let you know how it is after I receive it.

Posted by: ~W~

okay...and im getting a haircut tomorrow, I'll let you know how it is after it is done....

hehehe.....

Hey guys- looks like the VK2010 is finally out! See this ebay auction: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dl...item=9119918414

I didn't know it would be available in pink & black in addition to white! I actually think the pink is cutest, but being a guy, I'd never be able to get away with it. I notice the Ebay listing shows the memory at 128MB. The same seller accurately listed the VK2020 in another auction listing at 96MB, so those memory numbers are probably accurate, which means while neither phone has the reported 1GB, the VK2010 does have a bit more memory that the VK2020, and the 2010 is essentially identical in size to the original VK2000. I wonder what the actual market price of the VK2010 is, as there is no way to tell from an auction? I was going to just pick up a VK2000 for $140 + shipping ($176 total) from wapzon, but like the design of the 2010 better. Still, if the only real difference is the limited MP3 capacity, then it might not be worth it if there is a big price difference.

Posted by: Ian Brantford

Judging by jehinger's responses in the VK2020 thread (http://howardforums.com/showthread....54#post6945054), I would conclude that, in addition to some extra features, the newer models fix technical shortcomings of the VK2000 (earpiece heating, battery life, etc).

Posted by: ~W~

I can tell u this... I was very impress with the vk2000. BUT it has it flaws and one of it being the 850 band. I notice it isnt as strong as the likes of Nokia and Motorola. I was not ABLE to make calls where i usually am able to. HOWEVER, the 1900 mhz band is SUPER DUPER strong. I know its quad band but if you are using t-mobile this is the phone for you.

vk2000 battery life isnt bad at all, but the screen is something i wish was a lil better.

Posted by: Haoaw

what? only 128mb... (cry)

I was all hyped up because they said 1gig! now its a piece of useless phone to me, since 128mb its way too little for my gf

Posted by: Haoaw

But why is that the VK site said : 128x56 mb + 512 (or 1gig)?

does that mean there is a possiblity that there is an upgrade option?

Posted by: jehlinger

See the VK2020 thread, VK is calling it 1 gigabit (8 bits=1 byte) so it is therefore only 128mb. Shady and misleading if you ask me, but whatchyagonnado.

Battery life is better on the vk2020 but I can't speak for the 850mhz band as I use t-mobile.

Posted by: raytrade

Well, I took the plunge and ordered a white VK2010 from the Ebay guy from Portugal. I emailed him and he agreed to directly sell me the phone with shipping to the USA for $210 total which saves a bit from the Ebay amount, and ends up being only $33 more than the VK2000 would have been from wapzon with shipping. Hopefully VK have solved some of the VK2000's issues. I'll report back once I get the phone. The seller emailed me within an hour of payment to tell me the phone was going out, plus he has 100% positive feedback on Ebay, so I feel pretty good about it. If any of you are wanting the phone, you might want to try emailing the guy and seeing if you can get the same deal.

I bough one this week through ebay too from france. Paid 200 euros inc shipping. It's an awesome machine. I love it ! I like the interface too, it's really great. I can confirm that it has 128 MB on it, there was something like 100 MB free default.

Hi all, here are some pictures I have from my VK 2010.

http://gathering.tweakers.net/forum...ssages/1124407/

What do you think?

Posted by: raytrade

Well, I'm happy to report I've received the VK2010 phone from the Portugal Ebay guy. Very nice, upscale packaging from VK. The phone is being marketed on the box and manual as "Phone Or MP3 player? VK2O1One" with a "in" within the first "O" so that it reads VK2in1One.

First problem: the manual is in Portuguese or some foreign language! Help! I'm the kind of person who reads the manual before using anything and VK does not have manuals for this phone in any language other than French on their site. I even thought I'd try seeing if there was a VK2020 manual as the phones have similar features but the VK2020 manual is also only in French on the site. Are any of you guys who own either the 2010 or 2020 finding an English manual somewhere? Or are you just great at figuring out phones on your own?

The only other thing I've noticed so far is that the back battery door is unbelievably flimsy and made of very cheap, thin plastic. It feels like something on a cheap bargain children's toy and is not even as substantial as the typical TV remote battery door.

Well, I'll try playing with the phone a bit and report back later.

What do you think of the quality when you are making a call when *the other sie* is in a car or on a street? A lot of noise . right ?

Posted by: raytrade

Haven't tried callng anyone yet. Just playing with the phone now in the middle of the nite so I can't call anyone yet. Menu option 1 says "Unavailable" and pictures a SIM card. Any idea what that refers to?

Posted by: jehlinger

That seems to be some SIM Tool Kit function which is disabled (Menu Item 1).

I haven't seen the manual for the 2010 except in French, sorry.

Ok all. Need help in deciding vk2010 vs vk2020. Definitely need quad band, I know speakerphone is out, but I do want one specific feature which is either "safe" or "wallet" software in order to securely store my passwords/credit-debit numbers, etc. Also want the english manual for either, please add input. Also, what is the deal with InfoSonics or VK Mobile? Are new models on the horizon after the Las Vegas wireless show? Should we wait and expect better phone/features? They listed a model vk 2030 but I cannot find any info on this at all?

Well I tried making a couple of calls today, one to a friend at home and one to voicemail, and the phone has tons of continuous loud background hiss or "static". Sounds like one of those old analog connections. Very wierd and unpleasant. It is quite noticeable to me, but the person at the other end doesn't hear it, so it is the phone, not the line.

Posted by: raytrade

I think I've finished exploring all the phone options except loading MP3, Bluetooth, and PCSync options. A few more observations: So far, everything was a breeze. I was surprised how easy it was to get the WAP/MMS working. Just took the settings from my L6 and entered them into the phone. The phone does indeed get very warm. I haven't made a long call yet, but while I was playing with the phone menu, the phone got very warm after just a few minutes. I also noticed that the backlighting on the keypad is not very consistent across the pad. The left and right rows of keys are far dimmer than the center 2 rows. I also don't like the little dangling/swiveling "door" for the charger/headphone jack. It feels like it is going to break off within days- any slight pressure and the thing feels like it will fall off. I've made a couple of short calls and the continuous loud hiss is VERY annoying. I can't wait for more people to get this phone so I can find out if this hiss is consistent on all phones.

Oh, hey, does anyone know what the little blue LED on the left corner of the phone is for, and how do I turn it off so it doesn't blink occasionally?

I'll try seeing if I can figure out how to get some songs onto the phone soon.

Posted by: raytrade

As I seem to be the only one here other than davidgilmour to own this phone, I'll post a couple more of my latest observations: 1) Love that they include not only an extra battery, but also a separate charging case that you stick the spare battery into, meaning you can charge one battery while the other is in your phone, so you can always have a full-power battery to swap out. 2) Having said that, I find the connection from the spare charging case to the charger cable to be very loose. You have to wiggle it to get the "charging" light to come on, and the slightest movement dislocates the connection and you have to wiggle it again. Not sure how problematic this will prove to be in the long term, but it surely means you have to set the spare charging case on a desk and not somewhere you might move it accidentally. 3) During calls, I often hear "popping" sounds. Between that and the hissing noise, I swear I think I am on an old analog connection. Very wierd- unlike the silent "drop-out" moments I am used to, you get all this popping going on like you're listening to an old record. 4) The phone display is NOT bright enough even at its highest brightness setting to be visible in sunlight. Very similar to the problem I had with my Sony Er. T616. 5) I thought others were exaggerating about the VK20XX phones when they said you absolutely cannot feel this in your pocket, but they are not! I am amazed at the lightness and form factor. It makes my Moto L6 seem ridiculously bulky and heavy. This phone truly is like carrying a credit card. I keep having to touch my pants pocket to make sure the phone is still there. 6) The headphones included are so poorly ergonomic! They fall right off your ear! The buds are too big to stick fully into your ear so they fall off everytime you turn your head. Also, the headphones stick into the USB/charger port on the phone, which means the little swively jack cover just dangles out to the side when the headphones are plugged in. Very unelegant and totally seems like you would break it off easily. Finally, at full "10" volume, the 2 included MP3s still play so low through the headphones that it would be like a "2" on most volume controls, and the headphones don't have their own volume control. Definitely not loud enough if that is how loud all MP3s will be. I'll have to load my own songs and try it further. This could be a real problem as you can't use generic headphones instead.

Hello, a newbie here, and hope you guys can help.
it seems others have successfully got wap working on the Vk2000.
BTW, i also posted this in the vk2000 thread but no reply, so i thought to try here..

I have a vk2010, but when trying to input the wap login names for standard cingular info, i can't input the entire login name WAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM - only able to enter upto WAP@CINGULARGPRS , and the .com portion is too long and can't enter it further.

Can someone please help and confirm what settings they are inputting for Cingular wap/csd/gprs?

i've been going by the cingular data faq here..
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=813037

thanks in advance for your help!

while there is no specific "wallet" function, there is an option to password protect the "memo" menu item so that whenever you wanted to view your memos, you'd have to enter a password first.
btw you can also password protect the following menu items: phonebook, message, call history, gallery, & calendar.

i have searched high and low for an english version, to no avail. the only thing i can say is that it's pretty straight forward phone, so up until now i've been able to figure things out on my own. you can find an english vk2000 pdf manual you can d/l from vkmobile.com, that kinda help fill in the blanks, especially vk specific-terminology etc.

also, for any mac users out there, i have been able to get the vk2020 to pair with my G5 and iBook G4 both running os x 10.4.6 using bluetooth.

the trick was to not to use apple's bluetooth set-up assistant to make the first pairing, but instead to use the shareware program iStumbler. once the vk2020 is paired, then you can use apple's own bluetooth file exchange app to swap files (music, images, etc). i can also used apple's addressbook to swap vcards. unfortunately, however, isync will still not work.

cheers.

try: menu>settings>display>lighting>led>off

since the oled screen turns completely dark when in sleep mode, i suspect the led is to indicate that the phone is still on.

edit: sorry raytrade i thought you were referring to a vk2020, which the above instructions are for. but maybe this will work on the vk2010 as well?

Posted by: JotaCe17

Hi, first of all I have to say that I'm a satisfied VK2010 owner.

Well, something that I found very weird is the fact that you can only use 3 pre-defined ringtones for messages...
BTW, I can't send Java applications through bluetooth to my phone, anyone tried this?

Oh, about the LED, it also works on the 2010 model...

Posted by: xequa

Hi All,

I'm considering getting one of these 2020s, but I'm reluctant to go charging ahead without knowing how good/loud/clear the earpiece volume is and how clear the calls are. I read some of the posts about a 'popping/hissing' sound? My hearing is less than great, and I wear 2 hearing aids. I had a crappy RAZR, and I couldn't hold much of a conversation unless I was in a quiet room. Trying to hear a call with even mild traffic noise in the background was useless.

I'm looking for something with the earpiece volume of one of the Blackberry smartphones (which I &%$#ing lost and had to replace with a Nokia flip phone).

Would this phone cut it, or should I look into something else?

Thanks for the help.

Hi!

This is my firt post in this forum

I´m from Portugal and I´ve just bough a VK2010.

For start, I want to apologise for my bad english

I´ve been testing the 2010 and I found some problems and I need your opinion:

1) when the phone is turned ON and charging the battery, if I go to the last calls menu, for some reason, he starts making aleatoric calls to the last numbers received...AMAZING...At first, I though it could be a virus, but the Bluetooth was turned OFF since I bough it.

For this reason I´m going tomorrow (monday, 7th may) to the store to change for another 2010 and see if the problem persists.

2) When I finish to see my new received SMS´s, if I press the RETURN right button twice too fast (to return to the MAIN SCREEN), the phone seems do reboot and loses the network signal for about 5 seconds....weird...

3) I´m sad with the ONLY tree tones that I can associate with incoming SMS´s.

4) I´m trying to connect my phone with my PC trough the USB cable. However my "PCSync v.4.0" does not find any phone connected to the computer. My windows reconises the EXTERNAL HDD, and let me open it, but doesn´t find any drivers to its modem, as it says in the "help.pdf" attatched in the CD-ROM.

I can open the phone folders such as sound..etc, but I can´t manage my adress book...etc...

Can you help me to install the phone properly? Can you tell me why in the PSync Software just let me choose between COM1, COM2, COM3, COM4...etc.. and doesn´t appear the USB option?

For the moment I have no more doubts. I´m going to make same phone calls to test the sound.

Tnkx for everything.
Francisco

xequa, I do not have my VK2020 yet, but reports of the hissing/popping sounds appear to be from certain handsets when used on the North American frequencies (800/1900). It could be a problem only with certain batches of the product. Here is a thread for the VK2020: http://howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=875156 .

If you want a reference for one reliable model with high quality and volume on the speaker, I can recommend the Nokia 3220. My hard-of-hearing father uses this now. We did side-by-side comparisons of the RAZR, Nokia 6230b, Nokia 3220, Nokia 6101 (actually made by BenQ), and some others that were in the Rogers store (Samsung, etc). The 3220 was the best by far.

Francisco, from what I have read on other threads, it looks like the PC software does use a COM identifier, despite actually going through USB. COM3 would be the first one to try, since most current PC's have two real serial ports pre-assigned (COM1 and COM2).

Best wishes,
Ian

Posted by: Hotsofar

Dear Ian,

my PC has just one COM port and I´ve already tried COM2, COM3,...until COM10.

Posted by: ricardope

I'm using FlyPCSync_v4.0.0.34
Installed everything, including the modem driver.
USB mass storage device worked right away.
I first got a "unavailable" status in the COM port.
The solution was to switch the "PC Connection" option in the phone settings menu to "PC Sync" (translating from Portuguese, anyway, the key shortcut is MENU>5>6>1)
Then it identified the COM port in the Modem configuration.
And PC Sync automatically identified it.

Hey Citi, did anyone ever help you with this question? (not beinga ble to input the entire wAP@CINGULARGPRS.COM). I can't seem to get my internet to work either...

Posted by: Haoaw

so can anyone say that the vk2010 is a good phone to get?

how is the rating so far? and whats are the pros and cons?
I am planning to get this very soon, but dont want to be dissapionted

Posted by: septicSam

Well, I have the 2010 (it arrived today) and I have to say I am not completely sure yet. The size is very very nice, the keyboard is good and screen is decent. The call quality seems to be ok (haven't had any probs so far), but there are a couple of things which I haven't figured out yet.
I can't set an mp3 as ringtone (don't know why)
The T9 doesn't seem to learn new words either, which is kinda annoying.

If anyone can help with those issues, i'd be happy.

Posted by: Haoaw

so anymore news on this phone?

I guess from what people say here
this phone is not that great...

Posted by: raytrade

Haoaw- it depends on what is important to you. For me personally, I got the VK2010 about a month and a half ago and it is the sole phone I use. Even the L6/L7 SLVR seems ridiculously heavy and huge to me now. This phone literally fits in the folded billfold compartment of my wallet comfortably, or if I put it in my pocket, I cannot even feel it there ever. There are many limitations that have already been noted as well as some technical quirks, but if size and weight are important to you, this phone is seriously amazing. I don't think I could ever go back to any other phone on the market now except the other VK20XX's. To give you a "real-world" idea of the size, take 6 credit cards and stack them on top of each other. The raised lettering of the credit cards will make one side thicker than the other. The VK2010 is about the same thickness as the thicker side of the credit card stack, and is slightly smaller than a credit card.

Well go to the Gallery -> Music, choose the selected one and then select the 2nd option on the menu (I think the menu names are right, but they are translated, as I'm from Portugal and the mobile-phone's menus are in portuguese...) Hope this helps!!

About the T9, I don't use it, so I can't help you with that...

MENU>CONFIGURATION>PC CONNECTION>USB MASS STORAGE
or MENU>5>6>usb

Then tranfer the files to the music folder.
You will then be able to see them in the MP3 playlist editor in your 2010.

Hey, when I make a call to people a lot of the times they are asking me if I live in a cave of if I'm driving in a car. And I am in a building then.

Am I the only one with this problem? I have to speak really loud to people for them to hear me well.

Is there a software update available?

Posted by: Televinken

Can the VK2010 play 3gp movies?

Posted by: Indian spirit

I too am wondering whether to purchase this phone.

Like davidgilmour I'd like to know if it has a problem with the microphone, can people hear you nice and clear ?

And, when you're writing a SMS, and you're writing with quick hands, can it catch all the letters, or does it lack some of them ?

Posted by: Ian Brantford

I had the low microphone issue happen to me yesterday with a new VK2020. I phoned two people and they both immediately remarked how very low the volume was. This remained regardless of how loud I spoke or where I positioned the microphone. It simply wasn't useful. I sent it back, and I am getting a Samsung P300 instead.

The vendor tried calling me from the returned VK2020. The volume was a bit low, but not so low as to be useless.

I have to wonder whether the different network equipment played a part in in the problem being worse for me. I'm in Ontario; vendor is in Alberta -- Ericsson vs Nortel -- I can never remember which region has which one, but they are different. I.e. the VK handset's firmware might have a glitch with a specific network. It happens.

This is what the manual has to say about characters:

Can anybody kindly answer my question 'bout 3gp movies?

Posted by: davidgilmour

It depends. Sometimes people ask me if I am in a cave because they cant hear me, and that's on places where my old nokia 3310 did not have any problems ot my Samsung phone.

But overall I am satiesfied. SMS-ing is ok, nothing bad about that.
Interface is awesome. And lots of people ask me : hey, what's that, so it's a good way to get in touch with the girls

Ok, so if I'm writing fast, it can catch all the typings ? You don't have to write slowly for it to catch and write all the letters I'm typing ?

Posted by: JotaCe17

I'm not that fast writing sms, but it catches all the letters.
About 3gp movies, I haven't tested it but I'm pretty sure it won't play them.
Hope this helps

Well I have some bad news... I've transfered a .3gp movie file, and while the phone accepts it, it's impossible to play.
Sry to reply just now

Posted by: Televinken

Well, then I will most certainly not buy the Vk2010.
Claiming that it's capable of sending/recieving MMS is
almost worth a prosecution, since it can't handle 3gp.
I mean, who sends still pictures these days anyway?

Thanx alot for helping out with the issue!

Does anyone know where I can get replacement headphones for my VK2010? I picked one up from eBay but it didn't come with the headphones. Or could someone tell me what that USB port is called so I can look for another type of one? Or does anyone use bluetooth headphones with it?

Thanks
