I was wondering if the S40 is considered a GPRS phone and was also wondering if ICQ or Messenger is compatible for use with the phone, Thanks!!

No to both questions. The S40 supports HSCSD, not GPRS.

I know I can send SMS to ICQ (not sure abt messenger). But how would GPRS "enhance" this? Is there more to do with ICQ/messenger? Can I like be "online"?

With GPRS you're always online and pay only for the transferred data (from about 5 cents per 10 KB here in Germany, which is rather expensive). So GPRS would be an ideal solution for ICQ and the likes.
