VOIP & Caller ID

Hi, I have a quick question for all of you out there who use a VOIP service.

How does your caller ID work? I mean, DOES it work?

With my service in Hawaii (808NetFone) it does not work entirely...on incoming calls it will show the number but not the name of the caller. Apparently on outgoing calls I make, it doesn't show my name either. They say it's not a capability at this time. Is this an industry thing (like difficulty with faxing) or just my service?

Thanks!!

On vonage, most times it will show who is calling, both the name and number. Cell phones show up as Cell Phone. most times it shows up, but there are isolated times where it will ring the second time and the CID doesn't show up. Its rare though.

No problems on Broadvoice and Vonage. Landlines/other VoIP numbers most of the show the number and name, and calls from cellular numbers (esp. from Sprint and some small companies such as Cellular One or Dobson) sometimes show only the number + "wireless caller" but most of the time show the number and name or state. Caller ID is a network service so it works differently from one network to another. There are also occasional interconnection issues between systems. What does your VoIP provider say?

Thanks! As soon as vonage gets our area code I'm switching.
Our provider cryptically says they're aware of it but have no immediate plans/timeframe to address it...

I have no problems with Vonage either, I'm in Canada.. outgoing with Vonage does not have your name tho either, but incomming CID works 98% of the time..

Packet8 CID works for landline and cell #'s. But it only gives the #, and not the name in my experience. This is also what is stated in the info on their website.

Vonage shows name + number for landline callers 95% of the time in my experience. Really, the only time it doesn't is when someone on a cellphone is calling. When a cell caller calls, usually the caller ID name shows 1 of 3 things (where 14045551212 is a cell number):

1.
14045551212
14045551212

2.
WIRELESS CALLER
14045551212

3.
Unknown Name
14045551212

With sunrocket the inbound and outbound calls show name and number. Sometimes for cell phones it will only show "Cell Phone" or something like that.

not all cell phone acct's provide the name, so it just lists unknown or wireless, or cell phone XX (XX being the state/province the cell is located in)

I have Vonage, with a London, ON number, and a Columbia SC virtual number, when I call my London number from my Bell cell It shows up unknown name when i call my Columbia number from that same cell it shows Cell Phone ON.. some cell companies will let you have a name show up, I think Sprint allow's this, maybe some others do too..

Like I and Dot_Null said, incomming CID is pretty reliable 95% of the time, there are some times that it screws off and gives the wrong number, I have never had this, but alot of ppl on vonage-forum.com have complained of this.. unfortunatly, there is nothing in the works for outgoing CID name tho at this time..

That would explain it. I've never had a false number come up with SR yet.

Before you do either check out www.seevideophone.com and tell me what you think of that technology era in VOIP and if you are interested in knowing how you can pay only 19.95 a month and get unlimited calling anywhere in the USA and Canada then give me a call at 443-354-4072 Perry
