ok, so i can go on cricket clicks and download real tones (.pmd or .mid). And they sound like crap!
i can send a .mp3 from a slider remix thru txt. Play It there or save to saved sounds and play from there. Sounds great! Gets called .qcp in the saved sounds folder. But cant assign as any ringer
I can send with bitpim via bluetooth to the ringer/saved sounds folder the same files (.mp3) and they wont play at all thru the phone nor can they be assigned the option isnt even there. So for any of u out there that have gotten ringers on this phone please help me so my girl can leave me alone about her so un cool cricket ringers

Posted by: Relivant

Got the same problem. I can send them to myself but cant assign. I even have the option, it says saved ringtone assigned but if i call myself it wont be the assigned ringtone. What gives?

Posted by: Relivant

Well figured out why we cannot apply mp3 ringtones to an KX160 Xcursion phone. This phone only accepts or recognizes .mid tones. therfore you cannot apply a saved mp3 or anything else. We are stuck with the crappy tones.

Posted by: [TONE]

yea according to kyocera it only supports .mid offered by the provider but the thing is it plays .mp3 out of the saved sounds folder which means it should be able to do as ringtone also. And if u DL anything from cricket clicks it comes as .qcp until u dl it then it becomes .mid or .pmd. SO the phone has the ability to play all types of files jus up to some1 how to be able to apply others to a ringtone

Posted by: Relivant

yes i know it plays mp3s coz i sent them to myself but cant get it to apply as a ringtone. very frustrating. i want real tones. i know some1 out there can hack this phone or knows how to do this.

Posted by: walabe25

whoever is using bitpim to add mp3s to there excursions did you try to change the file extension to .mid thats how it works on both sliders(old and new)?

Posted by: walabe25

well i found out this phone really sux becuz i put a file on there it didnt play and it wouldnt delete when i tried

Hi, guys. you have to convert the mp3 into a 4bit mono 32khz Ima adpcm wav format file, then rename it to .mid then transfer it through bitpim. the file
size is a little larger than I want it to be. A 30sec file is about 500k. I use virtual dub and load up an avi file then click audio, wav audio, select my "16bit 32khz mono" wav file that I want to convert. then click on audio again and click full
processing mode, then compression and select ima adpcm then click 32.000khz
4bit mono click okay then click file then save wav(save to desired
directory). rename extension to .mid and transfer with bitpim to ringers
folder(not ringers/default). works great for me.

I followed these instructions exactly and the ringtone works great but I have a problem. For some reason when I run it through vdub the length gets cut in half. How do I fix this?

Posted by: Relivant

Followed ur instructions except for virtual dub, I used Adobe Audition, anyway file is converted but when I try to use Bitpim it wont detect my Xcursion to transfer the file. What gives?

Posted by: fatbro49

Hey Relivant. BitPim doesn't support most of the features of the xcursion, but the filesystem tab does work to let you view and edit files on your phone. So it will not detect the phone, but you can still add files to it from the filesystem tab.

Posted by: Relivant

I cant do anything with Bitpim. Cant add anything its all grey. And if the program doesnt detect ur phone how can u add anything anyway? I got ringtones in my ringers folder on my computer. I dont want them there I want them on my phone!

Posted by: mrgregddavis

I figured this out to a point. I can add ringtones that are less than around 150k in size. This is because I don't have a data cable and bluetooth on the kx160 doesn't work as it should so I have to mms my ringtones. Just use fatbro49's instructions to convert above. You'll need to clip the song down to around 10 or 15 seconds for it to be small enough to mms as, at least with Cricket, you can't send very large files.

Not the best but it sure beats the crappy preloaded tones as well as paying 2.99 per tone through Clicks.

HTH

Posted by: fatbro49

Yes. if your going to mms it to your phone the file needs to be less than 200k.

Posted by: mrgregddavis

I'd also like to add that, if sound quality can be sacrificed a bit, you can lower the sample rate to 16000kHz and get a bit longer clip. Usually in the ballpark of 20-30 seconds depending on the complexity of the song. If I can help anyone on this I'll try as I'm still learning but this uncanny ability to explain what I do know in really simple terms.

Good Day!

I got it I got it! just wanted to share that. Was makin a mountain out of molehill.

ok.. So I tried virtualdub, audacity, goldwave, even tried to use windows recorder, shelled out a few big bucks for Adobe Audition. Can't find the 32,000khz 4 bit for IMA ADPCM anywhere. What am I doing wrong, what do I need to be doing? So far the only working option i've come across is 8000khz 4bit mono and it sounds horrible. I'm open for suggestions, even walkthroughs.

I use AudioKit to convert my files after trimming them in Audition.

Posted by: fatbro49

I use Dbpoweramp to convert my mp3s into a 16bit 16khz mono wav file after that you can use audacity to trim that wav file the way you like and then export to 4bit ima adpcm mono wav format. After that rename the file extension to .mid and then transfer to ringer folder on your phone. It's just that easy...

Posted by: mrgregddavis

I use Nero Wave Edit. It's simple and you have plenty of options.

To convert to 32,000kHz:
  1. Load the mp3 you wish to use into Nero Wave Editor
  2. Highlight and COPY the section of the song that you want.
  3. Open a NEW blank file and PASTE you selected segment into it
  4. Go to FILE->SAVE AS. For FILE TYPE choose WAV.
  5. There is an OPTIONS box in the SAVE AS dialog, click it and adjust your parameters as you need.
  6. Once saved, open VIRTUALDUB and follow below.

Converting to 4bit mono with VDub
  1. Load up VDub and immediately load any AVI file. *Note that the AVI should be at least as long as your WAV or your WAV will get chopped
  2. Now go to AUDIO->WAVE AUDIO and select your file.
  3. Now go to AUDIO->FULL PROCESSING MODE
  4. Next, go to AUDIO->COMPRESSION. In the box that pops up, from the left pane select IMA ADPCM and in the right pane select 32,000kHz 4 bit mono and click OK
  5. Now go to FILE->SAVE WAV and save to wherever you find it.
  6. You're Done!

Now, you may need to experiment with the kHz to get the size right. Try to keep your files below 200kb if you will be MMS'ing them. I've found that 16kHz allows for longer tones and the quality is still MUCH better than tones you pay for.

HTH and Good Luck!
Greg

So I followed the given instructions to the T. Thank's much I must add. but there's one little problem. for the IMA ADPCM stuff i don't have 32000khz 4bit.
The only closest thing that I have is 22050khz 4bit, 44100khz 4bit. 8000khz 4bit works, however the quality of sound is horrible. if there's something i'm overlooking, feel free to hit me in the face with a brick. if i'm using a version that I shouldn't be, or, for some reason my audio hardware doesn't support. please tell me I've got a creative x-fi fatality if that means anything.

Posted by: gandalf742

i have a question i have vdub but it says no compression pcm how do I get the IMA ADPCM option on it? the only real ringtone i got to work is the one from noodiez on esnips i couldnt get the ones from pint4300 to work
