Audiovox 5600 becomes dependant on the External antenna

I picked up a Radio Shack ext antenna to boost the signal in my house and it works great! It goes from 1 bar to max.

But if I leave it plugged in for more than 30min the phone goes to ZERO signal (Searching...) when I remove it. Somehow it becomes dependant on the ext antenna. Rebooting or even resetting the phone to factory defaults don't help at all. I have to return the phone under warranty. The same thing will repeat with the new phone.

Anyone else use an ext antenna on the 5600?
