hey all i posted this in another forum and i never got a response.. but i was wondering if i could get all of your opinions...
iam torn between which bb to get and i need your input to help me chose
i know this might be a stupid thread but any help would be appreciated...

i have both nextel and cingular accounts and need a blackberry for the following: internet, email, and text messaging.

with that said here the pros and cons for each carrier and phone.

cingular 8700c:

pros: full keyboard, better coverage - but call clarity isnt as good, bigger screen, great battery life, freedom to go to any state and have service.

cons: dust issue under screen, no gps in phone for telenav, and no program for voicecontrol.

NEXTEL 7100i:

pros: phone gets great service for nextel better than any other nextel phone in my opinion, size of it for phone functions, gps and telenav, program available for voice activated dialing (VoiceControl), direct connect feature for easy communication

cons: small keyboard, not as good service - but call calrity is better, worried about getting service when i visit california(san diego area) and florida(orlando area), direct connect feature is also a con because if iam on a dc call i will loose an incoming phone call and caller will get my voicemail.

p.s. the nextel blackberry 7520 is not an option the screen hurts my eyes.

thank you very much for reading this mess, but any help is apprecaited...thanks again.

I have had Nextel devices for my company for 5 years, including BES and 6+ BB users.

I just switched my device to Cingular 8700C. I had (still do if anyone is interested) a 7100.

I went from 7520 to 7100 as I had hoped for better cell service and a smaller package.

My findings and reason for move to Cingular:

1. Nextel sucks. IMO, of course. I work in the Los Angeles area and the NTcell coverage is horrible. This goes for the e-mail and PTT as well. Very localized signal strength and virtually no signal at my home, negating my attempts to work away from the office from time to time. I have found similar signal problems around the country, except in Vegas, where I had a signal in the Venetian elevator every time! Anyway, I had added a Cingual RZR so I had cell when I needed it. Dumb.
2. Cingular is a vast improvement.
3.7100. Buggy at best. If you get this, make it a point to take the battery out every day to reset it. Size is great. BT does not stay connected. Rings change on their own and double up. Locks up occasionally. I was very disappointed with this device.
4.8700C. Fantastic! NO ISSUES at all, the best from BB so far.

Hope this helps.

Wirelessly posted (BlackBerry7100/4.0.2 Profile/MIDP-2.0 Configuration/CLDC-1.1)

The nextel 7100i is a very large thick device; and the suretype is spotty. The 8700 has one of the best smartphone keyboards I've ever used. The only problem is the expensive data plan with Cingular. Can't wait until the 8700 comes to t-mobile.

With a voice plan, you can get the unlimited BlackBerry plan for 19.99 with T-Mobile. I know you want to stick within your current carriers, but it's an option.

^^They're the same from what I can tell, just one has the backlight on and the other doesn't, and a different theme it looks like.

The 7100i is an excellent device--I never had any problems with mine that weren't truly fixed in a few minutes time (a hard reset, master reset, etc). No problems at all that were consistant or a real issue. Suretype--it depends on what you want. Its not in any way "buggy", as suretype certainly works and hundreds of thousands of users in the US would certainly agree. With suretype, you may have to proofread a little better, but anyone that is familiar with suretype will certainly understand what you type even when you make errors ("get" and "hey" are the same keypresses and are mixed up sometimes, depending on what you use more, "data" and "days", and a few others too). Does that mean its "buggy"? No, it means its a much smaller (width wise) device than other bb's, thats all. As for coverage, it will certainly depend on where you are, and price goes into that too. If T-Mobiles coverage isn't good in your area, there's no sense in paying $20 less if you can't use the bb a lot of the time, especially considering that bb data is "always on" and requires a good signal.

Both the 8700 and the 7100i are great devices, it just depends on what you want out of it. Try deciding which are your most important factors (size, coverage, full qwerty) and assign points to each factor and see which device wins....thats what I'd do....

To the user that said that the screen hurt their eyes--try adjusting the backlight and the font to be more friendly to your eyes specifically. There's a setting there for everyone, its just a matter of finding it (I found I had to make the font smaller but fatter and lower the backlight--too bright of a light will always cause problems).

i love my 7100 and havent had any problems with it at all. however, nextel's text messaging is a JOKE, so if texting is as important to you as it seems, i would go with the cingular 8700.
