V262 bought used needs clearing - help?

Bought a cheap e-bay phone to replace a stolen one, just to use until current contract is up. Phone came. Old user contacts in phone. Inside screen goes dark in seconds. How to clear phone book? Assume screen going dark is some sort of screen saver? How to adjust? Any other advice?
